- Sounding Board (tm) adapter Test Procedure
- ___________________________________________
-
-
- The Sounding Board (tm) adapter can be tested by running
- either a handset test called HTEST.EXE, or a Line-In and
- Line-Out test called LTEST.EXE. Both of these tests re-
- quire the Sound adapter to be used in full-duplex mode,
- i.e. using both DMA channels 1 and 3. If you intend to use
- the board in half-duplex mode only, then use SAY.EXE AND
- RECORD.EXE to separately play and record messages to verify
- that the adapter is working.
-
- Testing the Sound adapter in full-duplex mode:
- -------------------------------------------
-
- You will need a standard phono plug to phono plug cable to
- perform the Line-In and Line-Out test, and you will also need
- to test the handset provided.
-
- For running either of the tests verify the following:
-
- 1. Jumpers J1 and J2 are both in the ON position on the
- Sound adapter. This selects the use of both DMA channels
- 1 and 3.
- 2. The SOUNDBD.EXE driver is installed using both DMA
- channels.
-
- To run the handset test:
- -----------------------
-
- 1. Plug the handset into the RJ-11 jack on the Sound adapter.
- Place the handset on a smooth, flat surface such that the
- mouthpiece and speaker are facing downward. This provides
- an acoustical coupling between the microphone and speaker.
-
- 2. Run the HTEST.EXE program. You should hear an audible beep
- and then a message will appear indicating the result of the
- test. A "Handset passed" message will be shown if the
- test passed. If any other message appears, verify that the
- handset is positioned correctly and that it was not bumped
- during the test. Run the HTEST.EXE program again to verify
- the results.
-
- Running the Line-In and Line-Out test:
- -------------------------------------
-
- 1. Remove the handset from the jack on the Sound adapter.
- Insert the phono plugs, one side into Line-In and the other
- side into Line-Out.
-
- 2. Run the LTEST.EXE program. The result of the test will
- immediately appear. A "Line-In and Line-Out passed"
- message will be shown if the adapter passed. If any other
- message appears verify that the cable is plugged in
- correctly and run the LTEST.EXE program again.
-
- Testing the Sound adapter in half_duplex mode:
- ---------------------------------------------
-
- Verify the following before testing:
-
- 1. Place either J1 or J2 in the ON position depending on
- whether you are using DMA channel 1 or 3 respectively.
- 2. The SOUNDBD.EXE is installed specifying which DMA
- channel is in use.
-
- The RECORD.EXE program is used to record a message through both
- the handset and the Line-In jack to a file. The syntax for using
- the program is:
-
- RECORD[option] filename
-
- where "option" represents the optional switch /C if you want to
- enable 2-to-1 compression on the file and filename represents the
- name of the file to record data into. Press any key to abort the
- program.
-
- The SAY.EXE program is used to play a message from a file to the
- handset and to the Line-Out jack. The correct syntax is:
-
- SAY[option] filename
-
- where "option" represents the optional switch /C if the file was
- recorded with compression and filename represents the name of
- the file to be played. Press any key to abort the program.
-
- Once you've successfully recorded and played a message, the Sound
- adapter is fully tested.
-
-
- Note: You can also run the RECORD.EXE and SAY.EXE programs when using
- the Sound adapter in full-duplex mode.
