- PC-Kwik Screen Accelerator
- Version 1.23
- Copyright 1988, 1989 Multisoft Corporation
-
-
- The following is information relating to various hardware and software
- products as well as information which became available after the PC-Kwik
- manuals were printed.
-
-
- Using Laptop Computers
-
- Some laptop computers use a CGA-type adapter even though the screen appears
- to be monochrome. All laptop users should try installing the Screen
- Accelerator with the /Q (Quick) parameter to see if it improves performance.
- In some cases, the display speed may be increased by up two or three times by
- using /Q+.
-
-
- Program Compatibility Issues
-
- You may sometimes get an incorrect video screen after returning to DOS from
- the following programs. You may restore the screen with the DOS "CLS"
- (clear screen) command. It is not necessary to use Generic Mode or to
- disable the Screen Accelerator before running these programs, but you may
- do so if you wish.
-
- 1. Periscope
-
-
- DesqView Version 2.2
-
- The instruction relating to the ! option on page 64 apply to DesqView
- Version 2.1 only. To obtain equivalent results with Desqview Version
- 2.2, set "Write text directly to screen" to YES and "Virtualize Text and
- Graphics" to NO.

-
- Detecting ANSI.SYS
-
- Normally, the Screen Accelerator automatically detects whether your system
- includes an ANSI driver. Some drivers and resident programs, however, can
- affect the ability of the Screen Accelerator to correctly detect an ANSI
- driver. If you are using an ANSI driver -- and the Screen Accelerator is not
- able to detect it -- the speed advantage provided by the Screen Accelerator
- may be reduced. Also, the ReView feature will not capture data scrolled off
- the top of the screen. If you have installed an ANSI driver by placing the
- appropriate DEVICE line in your CONFIG.SYS file and rebooting, check to see
- that the Screen Accelerator has detected the driver. If ANSI driver has been
- detected, a line beginning with /X+ will be displayed when the Screen
- Accelerator is installed. If /X- is displayed instead, add /X+ (or /X1 or /X2
- -- see below) to the PCKSCRN command used to install the Screen Accelerator.
-
-
- Alternate ANSI drivers
-
- There are several public domain and commercial ANSI drivers which can be
- used instead of the ANSI.SYS driver provided with DOS. If you experience
- difficulties when using one of these programs, consider adding one of
- the following parameters to the PCKSCRN invocation command:
-
- /X1 for NANSI.SYS, NANSI286.SYS, and similar drivers
- /X2 for ZANSI.SYS, ANSI-UV.SYS, and similar drivers
- /X- for FANSI.SYS
-
- It should not be necessary to use these parameters if you are using the
- ANSI.SYS driver which is provided with DOS.
