- Protocol Readme File
-
- Let me welcome you to this file. It is a good thing you
- are here because there are a few things I need to mention
- about each protocol. Hopefully you are reading this first
- before messing around with the protocols. However, I feel
- most of you are like me and do not read these asinine text
- files until you have thoroughly messed around with the
- program. Anyway, on with the show.
-
- POE: For those of you unfamiliar with this it is a nice
- little program allowing placement of many protocols in
- one environment. Very handy except it has the
- annoying habit of occasionally running and then before
- the transfer starts, throwing you back into your term
- program. If this should happen to you simply run it
- again. Also, whether uploading or downloading choose
- download when calling Poe initially. If you were to
- choose upload from you term program it would ask you
- for a filename which is unnecessary since Poe will
- take care of asking you that info. Ie: in Qmodem
- choose PgDn and have Poe as an external protocol.
-
- DSZ: This is the 22 January, 1990 version and it looks
- pretty good. I have tested this completely and have
- not had many problems with it other than aborts due to
- excessive line noise. One other problem is that
- despite all attempts I get Ymodem Overthrust instead
- of the documented Xmodem Overthrust. Unsure if they
- are one in the same or not but I have the same
- problems using a copy registered with the dszbreak
- program written by Long John Silicon. I "registered"
- this copy before I got the LJS's break program so my
- copy is going in this zip.
-
- Lynx: Again I "registered" my own copy of this protocol
- before I got a lynxreg program to test it against.
- Once again my copy behaved exactly as the
- "registered" copy even down to the fact that I could
- not get it to institute the longer sending blocks.
-
- Puma: I "registered" this one myself also since I did not
- know who cracked the copy floating around and unless
- I know who does a crack I will not use it!
-
- Superk: This includes Cmodem, Jmodem, and all other
- variants of Super8k, Ie: Superk -G. I was working
- on "registering" this program when lo and behold I
- log onto my favorite board and see someone so
- kindly uploaded a cracked version. As I said I
- normally do not use cracked copies of programs
- unless I know who did it but in this case I made an
- exception since the zipcomment was a Tinsel Town
- Rebellion one. (BTW, Viper, nice to have you back)
-
- Bimodem: Make a subdirectory off your term program directory
- named bimodem and unzip the bimodem files into this
- directory. Copy Bimodem.bat into your term program
- directory and set your external protocol to call
- bimodem.bat. Included with Bimodem is an invaluable
- program called Bimark which allows you to go through
- your drive and mark files to be uploaded thereby eliminating
- the need to type it all in by hand.
-
- Well all of these protocols have been tested thoroughly and
- all work except for Cmodem (NEVER have been able to get this
- one to work. Will look a the new version later) and Megalink
- at anything higher than 2400. I have long since lost the
- docs to Megalink (like anyone still uses this) so just threw
- it in for the hell of it.
-
- Don't forget to change the comm ports and baud rates to reflect
- your system. Also for those of you unfamiliar with Poe you can put
- in a pathname before the ! prompt. Example, Superk p1 s38400 rs f c:\dl\!
- Will prompt you for a filename and place that file in the DL directory.

- A special thanks to the Crusher for his never-ending nagging
- about protocols never working. Without his constant bitching
- I would never have done this.
