  5. If you just HAVE to get going quickly, and have a harddisk, do these 3 simple
  6. steps:
  7.  
  8.    1.  Copy the first three disks INTO you current 4.x Qmodem directory.
  9.    2.  Type "40TO42 QMODEM.FON" at the Dos prompt (to convert your FON)
  10.    3.  Type "QMODEM" and get started!
  11.

  13. What's New!
  14. -----------
  15. It's been a long haul, but the new 4.2 version of Qmodem is ready!  A lot of
  16. work and preparation has gone into it to make it the best darned communication
  17. program out there!
  18.  
  19.    o  An all-new manual will accompany this version.  More information, better
  20.       pictures, a more complete index for finding things, and best of all, it
  21.       comes in an ibm style slipcase with three-hole punches!  (when 5.0 is
  22.       released, you need only buy the insert at a substantial savings to you!)
  23.       Of course, the On-Disk version does not come with the slipcase... :)
  24.  
  25.    o  Zmodem!  Yes, we have included the popular public domain Zmodem protocol
  26.       as an internal protocol!  Features like crash recovery, support for
  27.       high-speed modems, batch uploading and downloading, it's all in there!
  28.  
  29.    o  Batch uploading!  As previously mentioned, 4.2 now directly supports
  30.       batch uploading!  And, it's the easiest system to use we have ever seen!
  31.       Edit the batch before you go online, saving precious online dollars.
  32.       then execute when you're ready!

  34.    o  Improved online help system!  Heck, this one has it's own index!
  35.       Multiple pages that can contain references to other topics.  You can
  36.       jump all around in the help system as needed!  The help system remembers
  37.       your path so you can back out or quickly return to what you were doing.

  39.    o  Qinstall is back!  This allows you laptop users to configure Qmodem
  40.       once, and not have to include the setup portion on your floppies.  Hard
  41.       disk users will probably not notice the difference.  You can still call
  42.       up the setup transparently with the familiar alt-n inside Qmodem.
  43.       Again, the online help is fantastic!
  44.  
  45.    o  The host mode has been improved!  Now, you can add custom help screens
  46.       for each command!  Better support for those hard-to-hangup modems!
  47.       Support for batch transfers!
  48.  
  49.    o  Serial port support has been improved!  Baud rates from 110 to 115200
  50.       baud!  Mark and Space parity has been added!
  51.  
  52. So, as you can see, there has been a lot of work done to Qmodem 4.2.  We
  53. consider it a major release!  Get your order in quickly to avoid the rush!

  58. Registrations explained
  59. -----------------------
  60. A lot of you are wondering about your registration, and how it applies to tech
  61. support, access to the Forbin BBS, and just exactly what you paid for in the
  62. past.  
  63.  
  64. When you register your copy of Qmodem ($30.00 being the going rate), this
  65. entitles you to 1 year of tech support, both voice and through the Forbin BBS.
  66. You get a registration NAME and NUMBER (which have lately been printed on very
  67. pink paper).
  68.  
  69. This registration NAME and NUMBER will plug in to your current copy of Qmodem
  70. making it registered.  This set is also good for all future releases of
  71. Qmodem.  So, even after your subscription for 1 year has expired, you can
  72. always download the current Shareware ver sion and apply your NAME and NUMBER
  73. to it.
  74.  
  75. The $15.00 RENEWAL is to extend your voice and BBS Tech Support privileges.
  76. If you need help, then you should renew.  Check the label on this flyer.  At
  77. the top will be your Customer Number (not to be confused with your
  78. Registration Number) and your current Expiration Date for tech support.  Some
  79. of you may have already expired.  If so, you may want to renew to get support
  80. for the new version.

  82. EXAMPLES
  83.  
  84.    1.  You registered for version 2.00E back in 1985, and you paid $20 for
  85.        your registration.  You can renew for the $15.00 fee and order Disks,
  86.        Manual or both!  You are entitled to a valid registration Name and
  87.        Number. To get these, simply call the Forbin BBS, leave a comment to
  88.        the Sysop as to your past registration status, and he will upgrade you.
  89.        You then call back in a couple days and get the information off the
  90.        BBS!
  91.  
  92.    2.  You registered a copy of Qmodem in the last year, so your current
  93.        registration has not expired.  You will have already received a pink
  94.        sheet from us with your last registration, and it will have the Name
  95.        and Number on it.  You can also do as in step 1 and call the BBS for
  96.        this if you have misplaced the paper or forgotten your number.

  98.    3.  You ordered the 41Bto42 Special we were running for a few months.  You
  99.        do not need to worry!  Your 4.2 disks and manual will be shipped to you
  100.        as we receive them from the duplicators!

  102.    4.  You are a current Auto Upgrade user.  If you subscribed to the Auto
  103.        Upgrade plan less than a year ago (from the actual release date), then
  104.        you will get the complete package automatically!  Just sit back and
  105.        wait patiently!

  123. The Jackets are Satin Flannel that look great and keep you warm in the cool
  124. evenings.  These are a heavier jacket that will last a long time.  Jackets
  125. also have two logos, one small one up front and one large one in back.  Sizes
  126. include S, M, L, XL and come in White and Black only.  Please specify on the
  127. attached order sheet.

  129. The Cap is 100% made in the USA with a mesh back and solid front.  These are 1
  130. size fits all and can be had in any color as long as it is White!

  138. the complete 4.2 release available for download in the Qmodem Conference that
  139. is online.  In addition, each system is linked electronically via Net Mail!
  140. This is a form of electronic mail without the messy stamps.  You can leave a
  141. comment or question to use at the Forbin Project and it will be routed to our
  142. home System.  We answer the questions and the reply shows up a few days later!
