- PerFORM PRO Designer & Filler - README Notes August 29, 1990
- ===============================================================================
-
- The following information reflects changes made since the printed documentation
- went to press, and should be reviewed prior to installing PerFORM PRO Designer
- & Filler.
-
-
- Getting Started
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- * Selecting Type Director (Soft Fonts) (2-11)
-
- 1. If you have already installed Type Director using the Agfa Compugraphic
- Type Director software package, do not install it again using the PerFORM
- installation program.
-
- 2. If you install Type Director via the PerFORM installation program, and
- you specify a directory other than TD, you must change the directory name
- specification in the TD.ENV file before using Type Director.
-
- 3. If you reinstall PerFORM PRO, and ask to also reinstall soft fonts, soft
- font information is appended (rather than overwritten) in your WIN.INI
- file. The WIN.INI should only refer to soft font information once, so
- ensure that any duplicate soft entries are deleted.
-
- * Customizing the PerFORM Installation, HP Soft Fonts (2-13) - When you choose
- to install HP soft fonts as part of the PerFORM installation, the
- installation program automatically inserts the soft font specifications into
- the sections of your WIN.INI file that contain information on any active
- Hewlett Packard LaserJet or PCL compatible devices you have selected. These
- are shown in the [devices] section of the same file.
-
- If you would like all of your Hewlett Packard LaserJet and PCL compatible
- devices (active or inactive) to have access to HP soft fonts ...
-
- 1. Click on the Control Panel icon in the Main program group on your Windows
- desktop.
- 2. Click on Printers in the Control Panel.
- 3. In the Printers dialog, click on the appropriate inactive printer to
- which you wish to give soft font access, and click on Configure.
- 4. In the Printers - Configure dialog, click on Setup.
- 5. In the dialog that follows, click on Fonts.
- 6. In the Printer Font Installer dialog, click on Copy between ports.
- 7. In the Copy between ports dialog, select the appropriate port and click
- on OK.
- 8. When the copying process is complete, click on Exit in the Print Font
- Installer dialog, then click on OK to successively acknowledge each
- dialog.
-
- * Customizing the PerFORM Installation (2-13) - When you install PerFORM PRO,
- an entry is placed in the [PerFORMPRO] section of your WIN.INI file that
- reads
-
- CloseOnTransfer=Yes
-
- This indicates that if you are moving between the Form Designer and Form
- Filler program modules with the Design Form and Fill Form (Ctrl/F2)
- commands, one module is closed before the other is started up. If you have a
- fast speed computer and/or are running Windows 3.0 in 386 enhanced mode, you
- may wish to keep each module active while you transfer between them. To
- permit this, change the above setting to
-
- CloseOnTransfer=No
-
- * Printing, Print Speed (4-2 to 4-3) - Regular print speed is now available
- for Hewlett Packard LaserJet IIIs.
-
- * Printing, Print Speed (4-2 to 4-3) - If you are printing custom gray scale
- lines and boxes to a Hewlett Packard LaserJet II or III, choose:
-
- 1. Extra Fast or Fast print speed - Print speed is fast, but custom gray
- scales are mapped to the closest of seven standard gray scales
- available.
-
- 2. Regular print speed - Custom gray scales are printed as designed, but
- print speed is slower.
-
- * Printing, File Output (4-4) - Create Metafile is not available.
-
- * Printing Tips and Techniques, Hewlett Packard LaserJet Printers (B-1) - The
- following Hewlett Packard LaserJet III driver does not work as expected with
- PerFORM PRO and printer macros:
-
- PCL/HP LaserJet III Driver (HPPCL5A.DRV)
- V3.60 (file dated 8-06-90)
-
- This driver is distributed via Compuserve and other bulletin board services.
- Use the Hewlett Packard LaserJet III driver that comes with Windows 3.0 if
- you plan to use macros in conjunction with PerFORM PRO.
-
- Form Designer
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- * Graphics, Graphic Format (4-12 to 4-13) - Windows BMP (Bit mapped graphic)
- images are not transparent.
-
- * Graphics, Fill Options (4-12) - The Default Directory field is no longer on
- the Graphic Fill Options dialog. To limit form fillers on a network to
- selecting graphics from a specific directory only, you should modify
- directory access privileges accordingly.
-
- * Bar Codes (4-15) - When you place an empty bar code area on your form page,
- PerFORM automatically fills it with a default bar code (Code 3 of 9 of the
- word "PRO"). This bar code is for placement only, and is overwritten as soon
- as you generate a bar code in Form Designer or Form Filler.
-
- * Page Setup (5-8) - The minimum recommended value for page margin settings is
- now .25 inches.
-
- * About (5-10) - The About command has been moved to the Help menu.
-
- * Make Group/Break Group (5-26) - If fillable objects are part of a group
- while you are designing a form, they should be "ungrouped" before you start
- using the form for electronic fill-in. You must break a group before you can
- modify attributes of any individual objects in the group. Since fillable
- objects are the ones most likely to be revised on a form, it is useful to
- have them "ungrouped" for ongoing maintenance and update of the form.
-
- * Font, Font Options (5-48) - You cannot use Bullet (enhanced screen and
- printer fonts) if your active printer is PostScript. However, selecting
- Active Printer Fonts will give you the same results as using Bullet.
-
- * Fill Attributes (5-56) - The maximum number of fillable fields you can place
- in a form is 512. The maximum number of data cells (which accounts for each
- individual partition in a comb) in a database can be up to 1024.
-
- * Tabbing Options, Show Object (5-124) - An area is automatically selected and
- displayed when you click on its field name in the Tabbing Options dialog.
- However, you must click on the object in the work area before you can use F3
- (Range/Lookup), F4 (Fill Attributes) or F9 (Calculation).
-
- * Default Data File, Data Format (5-142) - PerFORM creates dBASE data files in
- dBASE IV format.
-
- * Sorting Index (5-144)
-
- 1. Indexing cannot be performed on a calculated field that can be
- overwritten.
-
- 2. When you update a dBASE data file, the index currently associated with
- that data file is also updated. If multiple index files are used with the
- data file, those additional indices must be reindexed before you can use
- them with the updated data file. "Old" index files will not recognize
- that new records have been added to a data file.
-
-
- * Calculation (5-72) and Range/Lookup (5-95) - Entries in fields with
- "non-overwritable" calculations or lookups are saved to the database. If a
- calculated or lookup field in a dBASE data file is shared by more than one
- form, the field should have Overwrite disabled.
-
- Form Filler
- ~~~~~~~~~~~
- * Select Printer (5-9) - You cannot use Bullet (enhanced screen and printer
- fonts) if your active printer is PostScript. However, selecting Active
- Printer Fonts will give you the same results as using Bullet.
-
- * About (5-11) - The About command has been moved to the Help menu.
-
- * Default Data File, Data Format (5-13) and Export, dBASE Memo Fields (5-33) -
- PerFORM creates dBASE data files in dBASE IV format. Also, PerFORM can read
- or write dBASE III or III+ memo fields.
-
- * Sorting Index (5-14) - Refer to the Sorting Index notes under the Form
- Designer section of this file.
-
- * Field Info (5-60) - The Field Info command is found on the Info menu.
-
- * Program Help (5-65) - The Program Help command is now found on the Help
- menu, and is called Help Index.
