- For Importing the Bridge Folder
- Version A.03.00
-
-
-
- What is in the Bridge folder?
-
- The Bridge folder contains a set of Bridge Builder objects which
- represent a set of pre-encapsulated applications. These Bridge Builder
- objects can be used to quickly and easily encapsulate the desired DOS
- or Windows application into the NewWave Office.
-
- The applications which have been encapsulated include the following:
-

- STEPS TO IMPORT THE BRIDGE FOLDER TO YOUR NEWWAVE OFFICE:
-
-
- 1. Insert the last disk of the HP NewWave software in Drive A:.
-
- 2. Start NewWave, if you do not already have it loaded.
-
- 3. From the NewWave Office, select the Import from Disk File
- command from the Objects menu.
-
- 4. When prompted for a name, type in A:\BRIDGE.SER and press
- enter. The folder called Bridge is imported to your NewWave
- Office.
-
- 5. Once the Bridge folder appears on your NewWave Office, you are
- free to remove NewWave disk from drive A:.
-
- 6. Open the Bridge folder.
-
- 7. Open a Bridge Builder object with the name of the application
- that you wish to encapsulate.
-
- 8. From within the Bridge Builder object, select the Install
- Application command from the Installation menu.
-
- 9. Change the information shown in the Application Path edit box to
- match the location of your application on your system. For
- example, if you selected the MSWord object and you have MSWord
- installed on your C drive in the MSWord subdirectory, change the
- path to be "C:\MSWORD".
-
- 10. The information shown in the Default Data Directory is the
- recommended directory for saving DOS files within NewWave.
-
- 11. Click on OK, Install.
-
- 12. Close the Bridge Builder object. You can now select other Bridge
- Builder objects to encapsulate more applications.
-
- 13. Once you have completed encapsulating the DOS and Windows
- applications you want at this time, close the Bridge folder. You
- might want to keep the Bridge folder somewhere in your NewWave
- Office for use at a later date.
-
- For more information on how to use the Bridge Builder object,
- refer to the Bridge Guide.

- BRIDGE FOLDER ENCAPSULATIONS AND SOME POTENTIAL PROBLEMS
-
-
-
- The following section lists some of the potential problems that
- have been experienced with the individual encapsulated applications.
- Note that these potential problems may vary from system to system
- depending on the amount of free memory and their configurations. Also,
- some systems may experience more problems than the ones listed here:
-
-
- AdvanceLink B.02.00
-
- - If there is not enough memory to run AdvanceLink, change the
- memory required field in the PIF file (\HPNWDOS\PIF\HPADVLNK.PIF) to
- 300K using the PIF editor (PIFEDIT.EXE). Note that with this
- amount of memory, access to DOS commands within AdvanceLink sometimes
- fails due to the lack of memory.
-
- - AdvanceLink configured for graphics terminal emulation may not work
- due to the lack of memory.
-
-
- AdvanceWrite Plus F.03.00
-
- - The Document Preview feature may not work due to the lack of memory.
-
- - The Spreadsheet feature may not work due to the lack of memory.
-
- - The Thesaurus locked in memory may not work due to the lack of
- memory (although using the Thesaurus "on demand" should).
-
- - Nothing can be in the process of being printed from within NewWave
- when printing from AdvanceWrite Plus or the outputs may become
- intermixed.
-
-
- HP Word/PC A.03.03
-
- - Spell checking and hyphenation may not work due to the lack of memory.
-
- - Graphics printing may not work due to the lack of memory.
-
- - Nothing can be in the process of being printed from within NewWave
- when printing from HP Word/PC or the outputs may become intermixed.
-
-
- MicroSoft Excel 2.1
-
- - If Excel will not run under NewWave due to the lack of memory,
- then change the following line in the NEWWAVE.BAT file :
-
- C:\HPNWDATA\newwave win.com .....
-
- to include the /290 parameter :
-
- C:\HPNWDATA\newwave /290 win.com .....
-
- This will move the EMS line so that Excel will get the amount of
- memory it needs (provided it is available). If Excel still does
- not work, change the NEWWAVE.BAT file back to its original state.
-
-
- MicroSoft Word 4.0
-
- - Spell checking may not work due to the lack of memory.
-
-
- WordStar Professional 5.0
-
- - Background printing may not work due to the lack of memory.
-
- - The Mail List feature may not work due to the lack of memory.

-
- BRIDGE FOLDER ENCAPSULATION AND SOME MORE POSSIBLE PROBLEMS
-
-
-
- For some of the encapsulated applications, there may be more than just
- the data file associated with it (such as a backup, index, and/or
- table of contents file for AdvanceWrite). When an encapsulated object
- is created, only the data file is attached to it. If this object is
- mailed or exported, the associated or referenced files are not
- mailed/exported along with it.
-
- This situation can be circumvented provided that all the referenced
- files have the same base file name but with different file name
- extensions. If the referenced files are placed in the same directory
- as the encapsulated object's data file, then when the object is mailed
- or exported, the referenced files are mailed/exported as well.
