- SPECIFIC WORD PROCESSORS
-
- With some word processors you may have to slow down the insertion speed,
- especially with Replace Word-For-Word. You can do that from the
- Configure menu.
-
- Microsoft WORD 5.0 has been enhanced to allow for memory-resident programs
- to work well with it. However, versions of MS-WORD before 5.0 running
- on an EGA monitor have problems in the word substitution because of the
- way Microsoft handles the keyboard and the screen. The only solution
- is to upgrade to 5.0, and to follow this procedure:
-
- MAKEVID SCREEN.VID -Lfr EGA.CSD -Lfr EGA.GSD -Lfr BIOSSAFE.KBD
-
- The MAKEVID program is on Utilities Disk 2. This will create a "standard"
- screen and keyboard driver, which will allow you to use memory-resident
- programs. If you have any problems with this, please call Microsoft
- Technical support.
-
- GENERAL INFORMATION
-
- The reason some files appear on both disks is that they are needed for
- the program to be run from a floppy disk. If you are a hard disk user,
- don't worry about the files that appear on both disks--they are identical.
-
- Don't invoke the Language Assistant from inside of a DOS shell. For
- example, if you load up WordPerfect and have forgotten to load the
- Assistant, DO NOT invoke a Dos shell and load it from there--you may hang
- your system. Instead, exit WordPerfect completely, load the Language
- Assistant, and start WordPerfect again. (This procedure is true for
- all memory-resident programs).
-
- Make sure Auto-justify is off while using Replace Word-For-Word.
-
- ACCENTS
-
- The accent utility is the hardest to describe, but very easy to use once
- you understand it. It cannot be accessed from the main menu--the Accent
- entry from the main menu simply describes the accents available. To use
- it, be in your word processor (or at the DOS prompt), and type these
- three keystrokes:
-
- The letter a [the unaccented letter]
- The hot-key <ALT-A> [A red uT appears
- in the upper left corner]
- The accent ' [the mark you wish to add, ' ` ^]
-
- That's it. It's really quite simple--the letter, the hot-key, the accent.
- But it CANNOT be done from the main menu.
-
- REPLACE WORD-FOR-WORD, FOREIGN TO ENGLISH
-
- This command CAN be done, but unfortunately it is not as advanced as
- we would like it. When running the normal replace, the program looks for
- English endings such as "ed" and "ing". However, the morphological reduction
- (the technical term for reducing a word to its root) is not done for the
- foreign languages. Therefore, the Reverse Replace will only work if the
- word is written EXACTLY as it appears in the dictionary.
-
- With that in mind, here is the instruction for how to do it: At the prompt
- "If Insert Mode is ON, Hit any key to begin Replacement", hit the letter
- "f". This will change the dictionaries so that the foreign one is used.
-
- Make sure you send in your registration card--we're working on a Replace
- that will boggle your mind!
-
- Many thanks to the users who sent in comments and suggestions, which helped
- polish this version. If anyone knows of a list of words with different
- American and British spelling (center/centre, color/colour), we'd love to
- know about it.
