  7. This file contains clarifications of items discussed in the User's Guide 
  8. and describes minor changes and enhancements that were made to hDC 
  9. FirstApps after the User's Guide was printed.

  12. Customizing the hDC MicroApp Manager Icon
  13. -----------------------------------------

  15. If you have a color monitor, you can change the color of the hDC MicroApp 
  16. Manager icon.  To do this modify the following lines in the 
  17. [hDC MicroApp Manager] section of the HDC.INI file:  
  18.  
  19. Icon Foreground Color=[Red value] [Green value] [Blue value]
  20. Icon Background Color=[Red value] [Green value] [Blue value]
  21.  
  22. Specify a value between 0 and 255 for each color.  Increase each 
  23. value to add more of that color to the icon.  (For more information about 
  24. specifying color values, see the [colors] section of the WIN.INI file.)

  27. Use of SHARE.EXE During Install
  28. -------------------------------
  29.  
  30. Some computers may have difficulty using Windows in conjunction with 
  31. SHARE.EXE.  SHARE is distributed with DOS and facilitates the sharing and 
  32. locking of files in a networked environment.  If you are using SHARE take 
  33. appropriate measures to remove it from memory while you run Install again.  
  34. This may involve editing CONFIG.SYS and/or AUTOEXEC.BAT followed by 
  35. rebooting your computer.

  38. hDC Windows Express as Shell During Install
  39. -------------------------------------------

  41. One of the requirements of Install is that no other hDC products can be 
  42. running.  If you have previously installed Windows Express and requested 
  43. that Express be installed as the Windows shell you will need to restart 
  44. windows with another shell.  First exit windows, then modify the [boot] 
  45. section of the SYSTEM.INI file to read:  
  46.

  48. shell=progman.exe
  49.  
  50. Now restart windows and run install.  To once again make Windows Express 
  51. the shell modify the SYSTEM.INI file to read:

  57. Sound Features
  58. --------------
  59.  
  60. Microsoft Windows version 3.0 has a known bug involving the use of sound in 
  61. low memory situations.  The bug occurs when the disk is accessed at the 
  62. same time that a sound sequence is being played.  The problem is
  63. particularly severe when using large frame EMS.  The symptoms of the bug 
  64. will be a general system slowdown, including sounds, disk activity, and the 
  65. system clock.  If this bug occurs, you should exit Windows and invoke it 
  66. again from the DOS prompt.  In order to minimize the chances of this bug 
  67. occurring, you may wish to disable sounds altogether.  To do this, open the 
  68. Windows Control Panel, choose "Sounds..." from the Settings menu, and 
  69. uncheck the Warning Beep option.  The next time you start a MicroApp all 
  70. sounds will be turned off.  To turn off sounds in Rocks choose "Options" 
  71. from the Rocks menu and uncheck the Use Sound Effects option.

  73. Microsoft has indicated that this problem will be corrected in future 
  74. versions of Windows.

  77. Desktop

  80. The Fractal and Calendar background features of Desktop are disabled 
  81. when running Windows in real mode.  This is indicated by the grayed Fractal 
  82. and Calendar options in the Desktop Background dialog box.
