- Mannequin 1.0
-
- Thank you for becoming one of the first users of Mannequin,
- software that brings the Human form into your computer. This file
- provides some additional information and up to date errata to the
- manual. Please read it before using the program. As an early user,
- you will receive free upgrade disks within sixty days that will enhance
- the performance and features. Please fill out your registration card
- so that we may get these to you at the proper address.
-
- Installation
-
- Mannequin is shipped in PKZIP format. The installation procedure
- will create the appropriate directory on your hard disk, and unpack
- all the files. To install, place the installation disk (disk 1 of 2
- if 3-1/2") in the floppy drive and type f:install, where f is the
- letter indicating the floppy location (usually this is drive a:).
-
- When the installation procedure asks for a serial number, enter the
- number which is on the back of your manual.
-

-
- New or Changed Features
-
- The MULTI icon shown in the manual has been replaced by the pair
- of icons 2VIEW and 4VIEW. These allow you to turn on either of the
- multiple views directly.
-
- The animation recordings now play continuously. You can pause or
- restart them at any time by hitting the space bar. The ESC key will
- exit the recording and return you to the drawing window.
-
- You can now draw partial spheres other than hemispheres by
- choosing the center and radius of the full sphere, and the starting
- and ending angles.
-
- The 3-D DXF export now permits two modes. Choose by blocks if
- you are exporting to AutoCad or most CAD programs. Choose by
- layers if you are exporting to 3D Studio. In addition, the object
- names for humans now include the names of the body parts, to help
- in coloring and manipulating body parts in other packages.
-
-
- To draw a 3-point circle, hold the SHIFT key down while drawing 3-
- point ellipse. Similarly, the SHIFT key causes the rectangle tool to
- make squares.
-
- You can now group 2-D and 3-D objects together.
-
- The End Point Snap option has been removed.
-
- Snap Distance is now a PREFERENCE, and is not fixed at 12 pixels.
-
- Snap toggles can be changed while drawing, by using ALT+
- appropriate letter.
-
- The Hot Keys are accessed by pressing the highlighted letter. The
- ALT key is not used.
-
- The REACH selection on the animation allows a human to reach
- naturally for a selected point with either the left or right hand.
- After this option is selected, you are prompted to select a human,
- and to choose left or right hand. Then, move the cursor (in the
- shape of a hand) to the selected point. If the human can reach the
- point in a natural motion, bending at the waist if necessary, the
- position will be changed. If not, the message "Cannot reach" is
- displayed on the message line.
-
- The Eyeball icon on the tool palette switches to a view from the
- selected human's eye. The maximum (peripheral) vision is used for
- this view, and not the optimum (foveal) range which can be displayed
- using the VISION menu selection.

- Examples
-
- There are three example files on the disk. These are as follows:
- EXAMPLE1.HCD is a meat grinding table with a butcher standing at
- one end.
- EXAMPLE2.HCD is a standard office chair, located centered on the
- floor.
- EXAMPLE3.HCD is a Steelcase office workstation with a human at
- one desk.
- Additional example files will be shipped with the free upgrade.
-
- Known Bugs
-
- There are still some known bugs in the package. Where
- workarounds are possible, we have included them here. Contact
- technical support if you find a bug, and we will try and get it fixed, or
- help with a workaround.
-
- A number of small changes have been made in locating or naming
- items on menus, e.g., REACH is now on the Animation menu, PLAY
- is now PLAY RECORDING. etc. These functions work as described.
-
- DXF import formats are compatible with Autocad Release 10. Some
- bugs still exist in importing Release 11 or 3-D Studio DXF files.
-
- Importing large DXF files from AutoCad is limited by available
- memory. The protected mode version of the program will be
- shipped to you in the free upgrade, which will solve this problem.
- Loading smaller DXFs and saving them as HCD files may help you
- to get a larger scene into Mannequin.
-
- The dotted floor line option (line with no gravity) is not yet working.
-
- Very high or very low zoom or scale factors will cause distorted
- images in the draw window.
-
- Scaling objects in other than front view, the ghost image box does
- not appear correctly. Switch to front view while scaling to
- workaround.
-
- The left lower leg of the female robot may not display properly.
- Using Change Body Style to smooth the figure will work correctly
- and display the full female position accurately.
