  95. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

  99. To install Hewlett-Packard Intellifont-for-Windows 3.0:
  100.  
  101. 1.  Make sure Windows 3.0 is installed and runs in Standard or Enhanced mode.
  102.     Check which mode Windows 3.0 is running by choosing Help from the
  103.     Program Manager Window and then choose About.
  104. 2.  Select the HP LaserJet III or IIID printer driver through the Windows 3.0
  105.     Control Panel.
  106. 3.  Exit Windows 3.0 completely and return to a DOS prompt (do not use the DOS
  107.     icon).
  108. 4.  Insert Disk 1 of Hewlett-Packard Intellifont-for-Windows 3.0 Version 1.0 in 
  109.     your floppy drive.
  110. 5.  From the DOS prompt of your floppy disk drive, type "IFWSETUP" and press
  111.     [ENTER].
  112.  
  113.       Example:

  117. 6.  Follow the instructions that appear on the screens to complete
  118.     installation.
  119.  
  120.     Hint for selecting the directory for your Typeface Files and Intellifont
  121.     Summary Files:
  122.  
  123.     Input the directory where you have previously installed scalable 
  124.     typefaces.  The installation program recognizes scalable typefaces.
  125.  
  126.     Scalable typefaces could have been installed through Type Director or 
  127.     AutoFont.  Typefaces installed through Type Director, scalable soft 
  128.     fonts installed through AutoFont, and screen fonts installed through 
  129.     AutoFont are placed in the \td\type directory of the destination drive.
  130.  
  131.     If you specify a directory, (i.e. \td\type) where typefaces have already 
  132.     been installed, as the directory for placing your Intellifont support 
  133.     files, the Hewlett-Packard Intellifont-for-Windows 3.0 installation 
  134.     program will recognize the typefaces and will install them for use as 
  135.     scalable screen fonts.  
  136.

  138. An instruction guide called IFWGUIDE.WRI in Microsoft Write format will be
  139. placed in your Windows 3.0 directory for viewing and printing.
  140.  
  141. When running Windows 3.0, look for the Intellifont Icon in the Accessories
  142. Group to verify installation.  If you have additional fonts to install, double
  143. click on the Intellifont icon and click on the Fonts button to open the HP Font
  144. Installer window.

  146. In the Hewlett-Packard Font Installer notice the typefaces listed in the left 
  147. hand box.  If the typeface has a small dot in front of it, it has been installed 
  148. for scalable screen fonts.

  150. To create printer fonts to match your scalable screen fonts, see the

  173. you need to run Windows 3.0 and setup the HP LaserJet III printer driver before
  174. installing Hewlett-Packard Intellifont-for-Windows 3.0.  The following procedure 
  175. installs the HP LaserJet III printer driver and updates the win.ini file with 
  176. information needed by the driver and by the Hewlett-Packard 
  177. Intellifont-for-Windows 3.0 installation program.
  178.

  180. 1.  Choose Control Panel from the Main Group in Program Manager.
  181.     The Control Panel window appears.
  182. 2.  Choose the Printers icon from the Control Panel window.
  183.     The Printers dialog box appears.
  184.  
  185.     If you have already installed the HP LaserJet III printer driver, highlight
  186.     the corresponding line from the Installed Printers dialog box and continue
  187.     at #8.
  188.  
  189. 3.  Choose the Add Printer button.
  190. 4.  From the List of Printers dialog box, select the HP LaserJet III printer.
  191. 5.  Choose install.
  192. 6.  Insert the Windows 3.0 Setup Disk 5 and press [Enter].
  193. 7.  Highlight the "HP LaserJet III on None, Inactive" line in the Installed
  194.     Printers dialog box.
  195. 8.  Choose Configure.
  196. 9.  Highlight the correct printer port from the Ports list box.
  197. 10. Choose Setup.
  198. 11. Make any necessary changes in the Printer Setup screen to reflect your
  199.     printer's configuration.
  200. 12. Choose OK twice.

  215. Intellifont Integration - Hewlett-Packard Intellifont-for-Windows 3.0 includes 
  216. the Intellifont font scaling technology resident in the Hewlett-Packard 
  217. LaserJet III printer family.  Intellifont scales screen fonts to all point sizes 
  218. supported by Windows 3.0.  Screen fonts are created "on-the-fly" -- which means 
  219. enhanced performance and no need to use valuable disk space for bitmapped screen 
  220. fonts.

  222. Scalable Screen Font Files - CG Times and Univers screen fonts are
  223. included to match the Hewlett-Packard LaserJet III and IIID printers' internal
  224. scalable typefaces.
  225.  
  226. New Hewlett-Packard Font Installer - Scalable typefaces and bitmapped fonts
  227. can now be installed for use in both Windows 3.0 and your Hewlett-Packard
  228. LaserJet III or IIID printer.  The Hewlett-Packard font installer installs
  229. typefaces and fonts from the following file types:
  230.  
  231. .FF      AGFA Compugraphic FAIS file format.  These files are usually on
  232.       diskette and are shipped with all Hewlett-Packard scalable font
  233.       products.  The .FF file provides support for scalable printer fonts
  234.       and scalable screen fonts.
  235.  
  236. .TYP      AGFA Compugraphic library file format.  These files are placed in the
  237.       \TD\TYPE directory when you install a typeface through Type Director,
  238.       when you install a scalable soft font through HP's AutoFont, and when
  239.       you install a scalable cartridge with screen fonts through HP's
  240.       AutoFont.  The .TYP file provides support for scalable printer fonts
  241.       and scalable screen fonts.
  242.  
  243. .PCM      Printer Cartridge Metrics file.  This file is created by the cartridge
  244.       vendor.  PCM files are used for scalable and bitmapped cartridges that
  245.       are not supported by the Hewlett-Packard LaserJet III printer driver.
  246.       The PCM file only provides support for printer fonts.  For scalable
  247.       cartridges the scalable screen fonts must be installed from a .FF
  248.       file or a .TYP file.
  249.  
  250. GLUE.TXT  This file contains information for all products you install
  251.       with AutoFont Support.  Soft fonts and cartridges, bitmapped or
  252.       scalable can be installed from the "glue.txt" file.
  253.  
  254.       When prompted by the HP Font Installer for the drive\directory from
  255.           where you want to add fonts, input the drive\directory where your
  256.       "glue.txt" file is located (default directory for HP's AutoFont
  257.           program and for Type Director is C:\AUTOFONT).  The HP Font Installer
  258.           reads the "glue.txt" file and displays a list of the typefaces that
  259.       have been installed with AutoFont support.  When you add typeface(s),
  260.           the HP Font Installer creates a .PFM file for soft fonts and a .PCM
  261.           file for cartridge fonts from the AutoFont .TFM files.  The HP Font
  262.           Installer installs the .PFM and .PCM files into Windows 3.0 for
  263.           access by the printer driver.
  264.  
  265.       The GLUE.TXT file only provides support for printer fonts.  For
  266.       scalable soft fonts and cartridges the scalable screen fonts must
  267.       be installed from a .FF file or a .TYP file.
  268.  
  269. .sfp      Bitmapped soft font in portrait orientation.  Intellifont screen fonts
  270.       are only available for bitmapped fonts that were created from an AGFA
  271.       Compugraphic library file (.TYP).  Windows 3.0 will attempt to display
  272.       a rough representation of other bitmapped fonts.
  273.  
  274. .sfl      Bitmapped soft font in landscape orientation.  Intellifont screen
  275.       fonts are only available for bitmapped fonts that were created from
  276.       an AGFA Compugraphic library file (.TYP).  Windows 3.0 will attempt
  277.       to display a rough representation of other bitmapped fonts.

  279. AutoFont Support - AutoFont support incorporated into the Hewlett-Packard font
  280. installer allows the installation of scalable typeface cartridges, scalable
  281. soft fonts, bitmapped font AutoFont and bitmapped soft fonts into Windows 3.0
  282. without first acquiring a Windows 3.0 metric file.  AutoFont support works by
  283. creating the Windows 3.0 metrics files from the .TFM files installed through
  284. AutoFont.

  288. HPPCL5A PRINTER DRIVER ENHANCEMENTS

  292. Hewlett-Packard Intellifont-for-Windows 3.0 version 1.0 includes version 3.7 of 
  293. the HPPCL5A printer driver for the Hewlett-Packard LaserJet III and IIID printers.

  295. Enhancements include:

  297.      * Print Model Improvement
  298.      * New and Improved Gray Scale Printing
  299.      * Font Downloading Optimizations
  300.  
  301. Print Model Improvement - The print model feature has been improved to include 
  302. printing patterned or shaded text and graphic images on all images
  303. instead of only on black rectangles.  If your application takes advantage of 
  304. the print model feature, you can print patterned or shaded text or graphic
  305. images on any other patterned or shaded text or graphic image.
  306.  
  307. New and Improved Gray Scale Printing - The gray scale option has been expanded
  308. to include optimal printing of scanned images.  There are three choices in the
  309. Gray Scale dialog box in the Printer Setup screen for printing gray scale
  310. graphics:  Photographic Images, Line Art Images, and HP ScanJet Images.
  311.  
  312.      Photographic Images replaces the Gray Scale Graphics On selection
  313.      supported in Version 3.61 of the HPPCL5A driver.  This method uses
  314.      an 8 bit by 8 bit super pixel to emulate 60 levels of gray.  This
  315.      is up from 32 levels of gray supported in the previous version of
  316.      the driver.  For improved photographic appearance, select
  317.      Photographic Images.  Your images will have smooth, soft looking
  318.      contrasts between shades of gray.  Images originally designed with
  319.      color will print better also.
  320.  
  321.      Line Art Images replaces the Gray Scale Graphics Off selection
  322.      supported in Version 3.61 of the HPPCL5A driver.  This method uses
  323.      patterns to emulate 32 levels of gray.  It has been improved from
  324.      the previous version of the driver by supporting 32 new hand-tuned
  325.      patterned images.  The benefits of this method is that is has fewer
  326.      artifacts and a better balance of gray tones than the old method,
  327.      yet all of the detail is preserved.  Use this method for images
  328.      that have a "line draw" look such as clip art.
  329.  
  330.      HP ScanJet Images is a new option for printing gray scale
  331.      graphics.  This method uses a variation of the 8 bit by 8 bit
  332.      super pixel used in the Photographic Images method.  The HP
  333.      ScanJet Images option is specially tuned for scanned images
  334.      from an HP ScanJet to give exceptional quality and clarity to
  335.      the printed images.

  337.      You may want to print your graphic images from more than one of
  338.      the Gray Scale printing methods.  Only you can decide which method
  339.      creates the best output for your picture.
  340.  
  341. Font Downloading Optimizations - The HPPCL5A printer driver now downloads
  342. individual characters of a symbol set to the printer as they are referenced,
  343. rather than sending the entire symbol set at one time.
