  3.      Windows 3.0 High Resolution Driver Installation

  8. This document contains instructions on how to install high resolution 
  9. graphics drivers for Windows 3.0. There are four drivers provided on the 
  10. disk:
  11.  
  12. 1) Mode 54 800X600 /16 colors
  13.  
  14.    This driver is supported on all versions of the ATI VGAWONDER, 
  15.    VGAWONDER+ and VGA EDGE.  An analog multisync or 8514 type monitor is 
  16.    required.
  17.  
  18. 2) Mode 55 1024X768 /16 colors
  19.  
  20.    This driver is supported on V4 and V5 versions of the ATI VGAWONDER and 
  21.    all versions of the VGAWONDER+. An analog multisync or 8514 type monitor 
  22.    and 512K video memory is required.
  23.    
  24.    NOTE! V3 versions of the VGAWONDER cannot support the planar memory 
  25.    architecture used by the Mode 55 driver. The version may be determined 
  26.    by checking the BIOS message which is displayed on the screen during 
  27.    boot or by using the V-INFO utility provided on VGAWONDER disk #1.
  28.  
  29. 3) Mode 62 640X480 /256 colors
  30.  
  31.    This driver is supported on all versions of the ATI VGAWONDER, 
  32.    VGAWONDER+.  An analog multisync or 8514 type monitor and 512K 
  33.    video memory is required.
  34.  
  35. 4) Mode 63 800X600 /256 colors
  36.  
  37.    This driver is supported on all versions of the ATI VGAWONDER, 
  38.    VGAWONDER+.  An analog multisync or 8514 type monitor and 512K 
  39.    video memory is required.

  42. The installation procedure takes advantage of an option provided by 
  43. Windows of adding a third party graphics driver during installation. This 
  44. procedure requires an "OEM display driver disk". This disk contains all the 
  45. files needed for setting up Microsoft Windows 3.0.  The files are: 
  46.  
  47.             o  WIN3-54B.DRV  - Windows 3.0 800x600 16 colors driver
  48.  
  49.             o  WIN3-55B.DRV  - Windows 3.0 1024x768 16 colors driver
  50.                                (for V4 board and up)
  51.             o  WIN3-62B.DRV  - Windows 3.0 640x480 256 colors driver
  52.  
  53.             o  WIN3-63B.DRV  - Windows 3.0 800x600 256 colors driver
  54.  
  55.             o  VDDVGA.386    - Virtual display driver for Windows 3.0 
  56.                                (required when installed on a 386 system)
  57.             o  OEMSETUP.INF  - Windows 3.0 setup file

  59.             o  README        - This file

  62. If you are installing Windows 3.0 for the first time, run SETUP.EXE from 
  63. your Windows  3.0 disk #1. If Windows 3.0 is already installed on your hard 
  64. drive, run SETUP.EXE from the Windows directory. NOTE! Setup option in the 
  65. MAIN screen within Windows cannot be used to install these high resolution 
  66. drivers. You must exit Windows and run SETUP.EXE.

  68. SETUP will display the system information on the screen. Move the
  69. highlighted bar to Display and press Enter. A list of options appears.  
  70. Select OTHER.  Then you will be asked to insert 'the display driver disk 
  71. provided by the hardware manufacturer'. Insert this diskette and select the 
  72. desired resolution. 
  73.  
  74. When installing Windows 3.0 on a 386 machine, there is an additional step 
  75. required. When the screen shows:
  76.  
  77.      Setup is copying file...
  78.      Copying Himem Driver
  79.  
  80. and the blue horizontal bar reads 94%, SETUP may prompt you for a diskette 
  81. with this message:
  82.  
  83.      Setup needs the following disk
  84.  
  85. However,  there is no description to identify which diskette should be
  86. inserted.  In this situation, insert this OEM Display Driver Disk in a 
  87. drive and type the drive path onto the screen.
  88.  
  89.      for example: A:\
  90.  
  91. Complete installation of Windows as described in your Windows manual.

  93. For a printout of this information, type
