  5. ANALYST ONE version 1.2 has several changes.  Modifications  have 
  6.  
  7. been  made  in  both the user  interface,  the  installation  and 
  8.  
  9. database structures.
  10.  
  11. INSTALLATION
  12.  
  13. The  installation  will now check to determine that  the  correct 
  14.  
  15. diskette has been inserted.  In addition, if version 1.2 is being 
  16.  
  17. installed over an existing copy of ANALYST ONE, the  installation 
  18.  
  19. routine  will  sense this and run a conversion  on  the  existing 
  20.  
  21. database.   Back up your existing data before installing the  new 
  22.  
  23. version of ANALYST ONE.

  25. NEW USER FEATURES
  26.  
  27. Re-Calculate
  28.  
  29. Under   the   ENTRY  menu,  the  re-calculate   command   permits 
  30.  
  31. modification of stored data between requested date ranges.   This 
  32.  
  33. function is particularly useful when an error has been discovered 
  34.  
  35. in an data entry formula or if a modification has been made to  a 
  36.  
  37. global variable, affecting the past data entries.
  38.  
  39. To  execute  a re-calculate, select re-calculate from  the  ENTRY 
  40.  
  41. menu  and  respond  to the request with the  date  range  to  re-
  42.  
  43. calculate.   ANALYST  ONE will re-call each entry  and  make  any 
  44.  
  45. appropriate  changes using the new formula or values.   Use  this 
  46.  
  47. function cautiously.

  49.  
  50. WAVE GRAPHS
  51.  
  52. Wave  Graphs have been added to permit you to  overlay  different 
  53.  
  54. years  data  onto  the same graph range.  Wave  Graphs  are  Line 
  55.  
  56. Graphs with defineable time periods.  This allows you to  examine 
  57.  
  58. each  year on the same graph superimposed upon each other.   Wave 
  59.  
  60. Graphs  are defined in yearly periods in the same fashion as  Bar 
  61.  
  62. and  Pie  Charts.  The resulting picture is a  Line  format.   To 
  63.  
  64. define  a Wave Graph select Wave Graph Setup from the Graph  menu 
  65.  
  66. and input the required information.  To run a Wave Graph,  select 
  67.  
  68. Run Wave Graph from the Graph menu and select the desired format.
  69.  
  70. PRINTER SETUP
  71.  
  72. A  modification to ANALYST ONE now permits configuration  changes 
  73.  
  74. from inside of the software.  Changes to installations parameters 
  75.  
  76. such  as  selected display adapter,  printer  driver,  landscape, 
  77.  
  78. black/white  reversal,  printer  port, and  scaling  may  now  be 
  79.  
  80. accomplished directly from the software.  To execute the  change, 
  81.  
  82. select Printer Driver from the Utilities menu.  ANALYST ONE  will 
  83.  
  84. prompt  for each item to be changed.  You need not change all  of 
  85.  
  86. the  items, only those you desire.  In addition, you do not  need 
  87.  
  88. to  know  the  name of the driver, only the type  of  display  or 
  89.  
  90. printer  to  be  installed.   The  new  parameters  take   affect 
  91.  
  92. immediately  without the need to restart the software.  Have  the 
  93.  
  94. driver disk available before executing this command. (Disk 5  for 
  95.  
  96. 5 1/4 and disk 3 for 3 1/2).

  98. USER FEATURES
  99.  
  100. Several   new   user  features  have  been  added   to   increase 
  101.  
  102. productivity  with the system.  PICK LISTS are now active in  all 
  103.  
  104. circumstances where a selection from the database is required  or 
  105.  
  106. multiple  options exist for a choice.  Press <F2> to  activate  a 
  107.  
  108. PICK  LIST, select by placing the cursor over the  selection  and 
  109.  
  110. pressing <ENTER>, abort by pressing <ESC>.
  111.  
  112.  
  113. Format  names  and  numbers  have been  increased  to  eight  (8) 
  114.  
  115. characters  to  permit  the use of words as  the  identifier  and 
  116.  
  117. increase the available number of selections.  Old versions  where 
  118.  
  119. three characters were utilized will fill the remaining characters 
  120.  
  121. with  blanks.   Use Edit item in the Browser menu to  change  any 
  122.  
  123. existing format names or numbers.

  126. Mouse support has been increased to all edit and format  screens.  
  127.  
  128. Simply  point to the desired box and press the left mouse  button 
  129.  
  130. to highlight it.  Character editing remains as it always was.

  145. The following Read Me file contains updated information for the operation
  146.  
  147. of ANALYST ONE software.  Also included in this file are any errors in the
  148.  
  149. documentation.  If you have any questions or require assistance Feldstar

  157. QUICK START:
  158.  
  159. To begin operating ANALYST ONE quickly, execute the following steps:
  160.  
  161.  
  162. Installation:
  163.  
  164. Insert Program Disk 1 into drive A: of the system and type A:install at
  165.  
  166. the DOS prompt.  Follow the instructions for inserting each disk in 
  167.  
  168. sequence.  After inserting Program Disk 5 into the system the installation
  169.  
  170. routine will prompt for setup information.  Select the correct display
  171.  
  172. driver and printer driver for your system.  Choose Landscape for 8.5X11
  173.  
  174. paper and Normal for 11X17 (132 column).  Elect Black/White reversal by
  175.  
  176. responding Yes.  Choose the corect output port for the printer by typing
  177.  
  178. the number corresponding to the port.  Refer to Appendix D of the manual
  179.  
  180. to choose the proper width and height in dots.  (150 dot per inch printers
  181.  
  182. will look best at 640 dots high by 825 dots wide in landscape mode on
  183.  
  184. 8.5X11 paper.)

  187. Tutorial Installation:
  188.  
  189. After completing the installation of ANALYST ONE, insert the Tutorial Disk
  190.  
  191. drive A: of the system and type A:install.  Data form the Tutorial will be
  192.  
  193. installed into the \ADATA sub-directory.  This will give you a head start
  194.  
  195. on designing problems and correlations.
  196.  
  197.  
  198. Program Start-up:
  199.  
  200. Select the \ANALYST sub-directory and type ANALYST at the prompt.  The
  201.  
  202. first screen presented will be the Security Setup screen.  Select an
  203.  
  204. appropriate Password.  This will be the code to access ANALYST ONE.  The
  205.  
  206. UserID is what is displayed in the upper right hand corner of the
  207.  
  208. ANALYST ONE screen during operation.  Respond with a Y for yes for the
  209.  
  210. remaining fields for this line.  Complete the security entry by pressing
  211.  
  212. <Esc>.  You now have access to the program.

  217. NETWORK SYSTEMS:
  218.  
  219. ANALYST ONE is a memory intensive program when generating graphs due to the
  220.  
  221. analytical nature of this function.  Networks typically reside in a large
  222.  
  223. section of memory, thus conflicting with the graph generation portion of
  224.  
  225. ANALYST ONE.  When using ANALYST ONE with a personal computer connected to a
  226.  
  227. network, load analyst1.exe to perform all functions with the exception of
  228.  
  229. generating graphs.  This program will permit data entry, reports, utilities
  230.  
  231. and the creation of graph formats.  It only prohibits the display and
  232.  
  233. printing of graphs.  To display and print graphs, unload the network
  234.  
  235. software and execute analyst.exe.
  236.

  238.  
  239. TUTORIAL INSTALLATION:
  240.  
  241. The manual calls for the setup of security before installing the Tutorial
  242.  
  243. data.  A simpler process to follow is to install the Tutorial data first,
  244.  
  245. before entering ANALYST ONE.  This will save exiting the program to install
  246.  
  247. the Tutorial data and returning to execute the Tutorial.
  248.

  251. HEIGHT and WIDTH in DOTS:
  252.  
  253. The height and width in dots provides ANALYST ONE with a scaling factor
  254.  
  255. for the printing of a graph.  ANALYST ONE currently uses the dot resolution
  256.  
  257. of the monitor to display graphs, but requires similar information to 
  258.  
  259. print them.  Determine the height in dots by multiplying the dot density
  260.  
  261. of your print (Dots per inch) by the height of the paper to be used.  
  262.  
  263. This determines the maximum height achievable.  Subtract a resonable
  264.  
  265. margin (ANALYST ONE will center the graph in the paper.) and enter the 
  266.  
  267. remainder as the height.  REMEMBER: Landscape mode rotates the graph
  268.  
  269. ninety degrees.  Follow the same procedure for width.  If after printing
  270.  
  271. a graph you decide to modify the printout, execute ANSETUP in the \ANALYST
  272.  
  273. sub-directory according to the instructions found in Apeendix A of the
  274.  
  275. manual to modify these parameters.
