  10. Professional.  More specialized information is provided in

  35. MEMORY CONFIGURATION INFORMATION

  41. Memory configuration is the most important factor determining
  42. application's performance running under Windows.  Unfortunately,
  43. it can be a very complex issue.  The following guidelines are
  44. provided for memory configuration in the most basic situations. 
  45. Please read MEMORY.SAM for a more complete discussion of memory
  46. configuration for Ami Professional.

  50. 1.  If you have only 640K, please follow the installation and
  51. operation instructions in the Ami Professional documentation.

  55. 2.  If you have additional memory, are using Windows 286 or
  56. Windows 386, and typically run only one application at a time,
  57. Samna recommends you load Windows with the /N switch.  Type "WIN
  58. /N", "WIN386 /N" or "AMIPRO /N" at the DOS prompt.  When running
  59. with the /N switch, you should configure your system's extra
  60. memory for SmartDrive.

  64. 3.  If you have additional memory, are using Windows 286 or
  65. Windows 386, and typically run multiple Windows applications
  66. simultaneously, Samna recommends that you load Windows with the
  67. /L switch.  Type "WIN /L+75" or "WIN386 /L+75" at the DOS prompt.

  71. 4.  The Amí Professional installation now creates two additional
  72. subdirectories: an \AMIPRO\DRAW directory and an \AMIPRO\MACROS
  73. directory.  All .SDW (clip art) files are placed in the DRAW
  74. directory and all macro files are placed in the MACROS directory.

  86. 1.  The ~PRO.STY style sheet has been modified.  Several
  87. paragraph styles were deleted, settings for some of the styles
  88. were changed, and several new styles were added.  If you
  89. previously created documents using this style sheet, we
  90. recommend that you check those documents to make sure the text
  91. formatting, paging, and placement of frames are correct.

  95. If you decide you do not want to use the new ~PRO.STY style
  96. sheet, you can copy the previous ~PRO.STY style sheet file from
  97. Program Disk 1 to the \AMIPRO\STYLES directory.  At a DOS
  98. prompt, type:

  109. 2.  Reference Manual page 30 fails to note that the size of the
  110. symbols used in a chart is determined by the size of the frame
  111. at the time the chart is generated.  If you later change the
  112. size of the frame, use the Frame/Graphics Scaling/Fit in Frame
  113. command to size the drawing relative to the new frame size.

  117. 3.  Reference Manual pages 112 and 113, in the Use Styles and
  118. Ignore Styles sections, should state that all paragraphs will
  119. use the style of the line on which the cursor is located when
  120. you give the Import command.

  132. Many computers support variable keyboard repeat rates.  For
  133. these computers, you can increase the keyboard speed by choosing
  134. Control Menu/Control Panel/Preferences/Keyboard Speed.  Move the
  135. scroll bar to the right to increase the speed.  You will notice
  136. a significant increase in cursor speed and scrolling with this
  137. adjustment.  (If your computer does not support keyboard speed
  138. adjustment, Keyboard Speed will not appear on the Control
  139. Panel/Preferences menu.)

  143. When printing bullets, be sure the printer resolution is set as
  144. high as possible.  If bullets are printed at low resolution,
  145. they may look irregular.

  149. When using the TTY.DRV printer driver, do not specify custom
  150. line spacing or space above or below paragraphs for any
  151. paragraph styles.  If you use a different spacing, inconsistent
  152. printing may result.

  156. You may occasionally see ~SAM????.TMP or ~ISD????.TMP files in
  157. the root or TEMP directory on your hard drive.  You are free to
  158. delete these files when Ami Professional is not loaded.

  162. Defaults for Charting are stored in a file named AMICHART.DFL
  163. initially located in the \AMIPRO\DOCS directory.  If you change
  164. the Document Default Path using Edit/Defaults/Paths, you will
  165. need to copy this file to the new directory.

  169. On occasion, you may notice results on the screen that are
  170. inconsistent with what you expect.  In almost all cases, this is
  171. a symptom of the screen not being refreshed properly.  To
  172. correct these screen "paint" problems, press PG DN and then
  173. press PG UP.  In most cases, this will solve the display problem.
