- README.SAM - Amí Professional ver. 1.2
-
- *****************************************
-
-
-
- We hope the following information will help you use Amí
- Professional. More specialized information is provided in
- several files copied to the \AMIPRO\DOCS directory during the
- installation:
-
-
-
- READMAC.SAM - contains information about the macros
- provided with your software, the macro documentation, and
- on-line macro help.
-
-
-
- MEMORY.SAM - contains a technical discussion of memory
- management and utilization in Windows 286 and Windows 386.
-
-
-
- In addition, the ASCII file READNET.TXT, located on the last Amí
- Professional program disk, contains information about installing
- and using Windows and Amí Professional on networks.

- MEMORY CONFIGURATION INFORMATION
-
- --------------------------------
-
-
-
- Memory configuration is the most important factor determining
- application's performance running under Windows. Unfortunately,
- it can be a very complex issue. The following guidelines are
- provided for memory configuration in the most basic situations.
- Please read MEMORY.SAM for a more complete discussion of memory
- configuration for Ami Professional.
-
-
-
- 1. If you have only 640K, please follow the installation and
- operation instructions in the Ami Professional documentation.
-
-
-
- 2. If you have additional memory, are using Windows 286 or
- Windows 386, and typically run only one application at a time,
- Samna recommends you load Windows with the /N switch. Type "WIN
- /N", "WIN386 /N" or "AMIPRO /N" at the DOS prompt. When running
- with the /N switch, you should configure your system's extra
- memory for SmartDrive.
-
-
-
- 3. If you have additional memory, are using Windows 286 or
- Windows 386, and typically run multiple Windows applications
- simultaneously, Samna recommends that you load Windows with the
- /L switch. Type "WIN /L+75" or "WIN386 /L+75" at the DOS prompt.
-
-
-
- 4. The Amí Professional installation now creates two additional
- subdirectories: an \AMIPRO\DRAW directory and an \AMIPRO\MACROS
- directory. All .SDW (clip art) files are placed in the DRAW
- directory and all macro files are placed in the MACROS directory.
-
-
-
- ---------------------------------
-
- DOCUMENTATION ERRORS OR OMISSIONS
-
- ---------------------------------
-
-
-
- 1. The ~PRO.STY style sheet has been modified. Several
- paragraph styles were deleted, settings for some of the styles
- were changed, and several new styles were added. If you
- previously created documents using this style sheet, we
- recommend that you check those documents to make sure the text
- formatting, paging, and placement of frames are correct.
-
-
-
- If you decide you do not want to use the new ~PRO.STY style
- sheet, you can copy the previous ~PRO.STY style sheet file from
- Program Disk 1 to the \AMIPRO\STYLES directory. At a DOS
- prompt, type:
-
-
-
- COPY A:\~PRO.STY C:\AMIPRO\STYLES
-
- (where \AMIPRO\STYLES represents the directory that contains the
- Amí Professional style sheet files)
-
-
-
- 2. Reference Manual page 30 fails to note that the size of the
- symbols used in a chart is determined by the size of the frame
- at the time the chart is generated. If you later change the
- size of the frame, use the Frame/Graphics Scaling/Fit in Frame
- command to size the drawing relative to the new frame size.
-
-
-
- 3. Reference Manual pages 112 and 113, in the Use Styles and
- Ignore Styles sections, should state that all paragraphs will
- use the style of the line on which the cursor is located when
- you give the Import command.

- OTHER NOTES
-
- -----------
-
-
-
- Many computers support variable keyboard repeat rates. For
- these computers, you can increase the keyboard speed by choosing
- Control Menu/Control Panel/Preferences/Keyboard Speed. Move the
- scroll bar to the right to increase the speed. You will notice
- a significant increase in cursor speed and scrolling with this
- adjustment. (If your computer does not support keyboard speed
- adjustment, Keyboard Speed will not appear on the Control
- Panel/Preferences menu.)
-
-
-
- When printing bullets, be sure the printer resolution is set as
- high as possible. If bullets are printed at low resolution,
- they may look irregular.
-
-
-
- When using the TTY.DRV printer driver, do not specify custom
- line spacing or space above or below paragraphs for any
- paragraph styles. If you use a different spacing, inconsistent
- printing may result.
-
-
-
- You may occasionally see ~SAM????.TMP or ~ISD????.TMP files in
- the root or TEMP directory on your hard drive. You are free to
- delete these files when Ami Professional is not loaded.
-
-
-
- Defaults for Charting are stored in a file named AMICHART.DFL
- initially located in the \AMIPRO\DOCS directory. If you change
- the Document Default Path using Edit/Defaults/Paths, you will
- need to copy this file to the new directory.
-
-
-
- On occasion, you may notice results on the screen that are
- inconsistent with what you expect. In almost all cases, this is
- a symptom of the screen not being refreshed properly. To
- correct these screen "paint" problems, press PG DN and then
- press PG UP. In most cases, this will solve the display problem.
