  5. FileID is a file analyzer for a wide variety of file types. Full IFF,
  6. GIF, JPEG/JFIF, TIFF, Sun raster, and more specifications are supported.
  7. When used on pictures it gives resolution, number of colors, etc. 
  8. Animations return frame rates, compression scheme, etc. Sounds, 
  9. formated text, faxes and more are also supported.

  11. The program has three modes. Normal mode gives the most commonly needed
  12. information in a short, easy to understand form. Terse mode is useful
  13. for BBS operators, etc. who want to build data bases of a large collection
  14. of files. Verbose mode is useful for programmers who want to examine
  15. every aspect of a formatted data file.
