  1. This is a new edition of our NAV Command-line scanner (NAVC) which can
  2. be implemented as a manual detection and removal system for the
  3. W95.CIH series of viruses. A full product integration of the detection
  4. and removal will be available shortly. The full system will be
  5. available via LiveUpdate and Intelligent Updater.

  7. Instructions for installing and using the special NAVC for W95.CIH:
  8.  
  9. 1. Create a directory called NAVC on your hard disk. You can do this
  10. by clicking on "my computer"  then clicking on "c:" then  going to the
  11. file menu and finally selecting "new > folder". This will create a
  12. folder called "new folder" and it will be highlighted. Rename this
  13. folder to "NAVC".

  15. 2. Download NAVC10.EXE from:
  16. ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/products/norton_antivirus/ver3_win3x/scanner/navc10.exe
  17. and place it into the NAVC folder that you just created.

  19. 3. Insert a bootable floppy disk into drive A: and restart your
  20. computer.

  22. 4. When your computer restarts, type "c:" and then press
  23. enter. Next type "cd \NAVC", then press enter. Next type "NAVC10" then
  24. press enter. At this point it will ask you if you want to unzip files.
  25. Type "y" for yes. When it finishes unzipping the files you are ready
  26. to run NAVC and remove W95.CIH from your system.

  28. 5. To do this type "NAVC /doallfiles /repair". This will run NAVC and
  29. remove W95.CIH from your system.

  31. 6. After this is complete, remove the floppy from drive A: and restart
  32. your system. You should now be back up and running.
