  49.         This disk contains the ELSA Display Driver for
  50.         Microsoft Windows 95.
  51.  
  52.         The drivers support 256, 32768 and 16 Million colors in all
  53.         resolutions available on used ELSA graphics board. Microsoft
  54.         DirectX is supported by an integrated DirectDraw/Direct3D HAL.

  78. 3.      Installation
  79.  
  80.         This section describes the steps to install a ELSA Display
  81.         Driver for Windows 95.
  82.           Please note the differences depending on you install
  83.         Windows 95 the first time with a ELSA graphics board in your
  84.         computer or you put the ELSA graphics board in a computer with
  85.         a running Windows 95.
  86.           There are also differences between the installation procedure
  87.         on Windows 95 Build 950 and the new OEM Sevice Release 2
  88.         (OSR2, Build 950 B)

  100.         Put the ELSA graphics board into your computer. Be sure that
  101.         the VGA-Switch on your ELSA graphics board is in the "1"
  102.         position (VGA enabled). You must not have another VGA Board in
  103.         your computer.
  104.           Now switch your computer on and start the Windows 95
  105.         installation. After finishing the installation procedure,
  106.         Windows 95 works in VGA Mode. Start the Control Panel
  107.         Application "System" and select the property page "Device
  108.         Manager". Under "other devices" select the "PCI Early VGA
  109.         Device" and show its Properties. On the property page "Driver"
  110.         you can install a new Driver with the button "Change
  111.         Driver...". The Hardware Type is "Display adapter". Now select
  112.         the proper WINNER subdirectory on the ELSA CD and follow the
  113.         instructions given by Windows 95. After the reboot select the
  114.         Control Panel Application "System" again. In the device Manager
  115.         select under "Display adapters" the "Standard Display Adapter
  116.         (VGA)" and "Remove" it. You can confirm the Warning with "OK".
  117.         After restarting Windows 95 the ELSA display drivers will be
  118.         active.

  121. 3.2     Installing ELSA graphics board on a running Windows 95 system
  122.  
  123.         Remove your "old" VGA and put the ELSA graphics board into your
  124.         computer. Be sure that the VGA-Switch on your ELSA graphics
  125.         board is in the "1" position (VGA enabled). You must not have
  126.         another VGA Board in your computer.
  127.           On startup Windows 95 detects the ELSA graphics board as
  128.         "PCI early VGA Device" and promts for a manufacturer disk. Now
  129.         browse throught the ELSA CD and select the proper display
  130.         driver subdirectory. Windows will copy the driver files and
  131.         prompt you to reboot the computer.
  132.           After restarting, Windows is running with the ELSA display
  133.         drivers active.

  136. 3.3     Installing Windows 95 Build 950 B (OSR-2)
  137.  
  138.         Put the ELSA graphics board into your computer. Be sure that
  139.         the VGA-Switch on your ELSA graphics board is in the "1"
  140.         position (VGA enabled). You must not have another VGA Board in
  141.         your computer.
  142.           Now switch your computer on and start the Windows 95
  143.         installation. After finishing the installation procedure,
  144.         Windows 95 works in VGA Mode.
  145.           Install the driver for the ELSA graphics board with the
  146.         Windows 95 standard procedure ("Display Properties\Settings\
  147.         Advanced Properties\Adapter\Change\Have Disk...\Browse..."). Now
  148.         follow the instructions given by Windows 95. After restarting
  149.         Windows 95 the ELSA display drivers will be active.

  152. 3.4     Installing the WINNER into a running Windows 95 OSR2 system
  153.  
  154.         Remove your "old" VGA and put the ELSA graphics board into your
  155.         computer. Be sure that the VGA-Switch on your ELSA graphics
  156.         board is in the "1" position (VGA enabled).
  157.           On startup Windows 95 detects a "PCI Early non-VGA Device and
  158.         start the "Update Device Driver Wizard". Follow the
  159.         instructions and select "Other Locations...\Browse..." and
  160.         search the directory on the ELSA CD matching to your board
  161.         (e.g. GLORIA\L\WIN95). Continue following the instructions and
  162.         reenter the matching directory on the ELSA CD. After restarting
  163.         Windows 95 the ELSA display drivers will be active.

  200.  
  201.         The working mode of the driver can manipulate by entries in the
  202.         file ELSA.INI. Normally you will need to reboot your machine to
  203.         make this settings working.
  204.  
  205.         Most of this entries will set by ELSA tools and don't need to
  206.         modify manually.

  208. 5.2     DirectX5 and AGP
  209.  
  210.         AGP is supported only by the Windows version OSR-2.1. This is 
  211.         available after upgrading a Windows 95b (OSR2) version by the 
  212.         USB-Update 'USBSUPP.EXE'.
  213.         The version number of your installed Windows can be found in 
  214.         the registry under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
  215.         Windows\CurrentVersion\Version and VersionNumber.

  224. 6.      Known Bugs and Operating Notes
  225.  
  226.         This section documents known anomalies or problems and gives
  227.         hints on work arounds.

  229. 6.1     Version 4.10.01.0203-0003

  231. 6.1.1   Changing color depth with QuickRes
  232.  
  233.         If QuickRes changes the color depth without restarting Windows,
  234.         sometime you can see drawing errors. QuickRes patches (!) the
  235.         display driver, so the driver can no longer work properly.

  237. 6.1.2   Display errors with DirectX
  238.  
  239.         Applications using DirectX could cause display errors when
  240.         DirectX version I or II is installed. Please install DirectX
  241.         version 5 to solve this problems. This version of DirectX you
  242.         will find on the WINNERware CD in the directory
  243.         ELSAWARE\DIRECTX5

  247.         OpenGL screen savers only work in double buffered modes and
  248.         there are some display errors.
