  12. This version of our Linux distribution that has been specially
  13. designed for evaluation is more or less the same as our Linux
  14. !Snapshot distribution.
  15.  
  16.     >> Please be aware that we do not offer any <<
  17.     >> kind of support for this (Evaluation) version <<

  20. Obviously this distribution is not as extensive as our "official" 
  21. distribution. This is only one CD in comparison to 5 CDs that
  22. come with the "official" SuSE Linux :-).

  24. So, if you like to have a glimpse at our "official" distribution
  25. feel free to have a look at

  29. or install susepake.rpm which is located under /unsorted.

  45. This file contains some pieces of information that were not
  46. available by time of going to press of our manual.  Please read
  47. it thoroughly.

  50. Installation
  51. ============

  53. If you are installing SuSE Linux for the first time, please do take a look
  54. at the manual. If you don't have the manual available, a copy can be found
  55. in the /docu directory on the first CD in various formats :
  56.  
  57.    book.txt   ASCII format
  58.    book.pdf   PDF format
  59.    book.psz   compressed Postscript (in order to print it you must
  60.               uncompress it first, e.g. with /dosutils/gzip)  
  61.  
  62. !! Important: Please read the section about partitioning; !!
  63. !! if not, you risk loosing data ...                      !! 
  64.  
  65. The Linux installation is started from a running Linux system. 
  66. You can either boot directly from CD (if this is supported by
  67. your BIOS), or start Linux from DOS (by invoking setup.exe on the
  68. root directory on the first CD), or use the shipped boot-disk. 
  69. You may create your own set of boot-disk(s) if you encounter any
  70. problems with suse-boot-disk. The program setup.exe helps you
  71. creating these disk(s). If there is already a Linux up and
  72. running on your system you may of course create these disk(s) 
  73. with Linux.

  75. If the first CD is mounted to /cdrom you can create the necessary
  76. disk(s)  by entering:

  78.     dd if=/cdrom/disks/eide01 of=/dev/fd0
  79.  
  80. Hints on which disk to use in combination whith your hardware may
  81. be found on file in /cdrom/disks/README as well as in our
  82. manual.

  87. ====

  89. Libz has been moved into another package. Therefore when updating
  90. a system containing libz you might see a warning during the
  91. update procedure. You can safely ignore this warning.
