  1. DR-UA124X Installation Manual

  3. 1.1 Adding the CD-ROM to a configuration with one IDE Hard Disk
  4.  
  5. Set DR-UA124X to SL(Slave mode) by setting a jumper on the rear side. Make sure
  6. the Hard Disk is set to IDE Master mode(Check your Hard Disk's documentation 
  7. for details).
  8.  
  9. 1.2 CD-ROM only connection to IDE card
  10.  
  11. MA(Master mode) or SL(Slave mode) are both valid settings. In some case only SL
  12. mode will work reliably because of the system BIOS.
  13.  
  14. 2.1 MS-DOS
  15.  
  16. If your OS is MS-DOS ( or IBM PC-DOS) , then perform the following  steps :
  17.  
  18. 2.1.1 copy from Floppy disk
  19.  
  20. Copy the file ATAPI_CD.SYS to your Hard disk.
  21.  
  22. 2.1.2 Modify CONFIG.SYS 
  23.           
  24. After Connecting the CD-ROM drive and copying the device driver  to the Hard
  25. Disk, add the following line to CONFIG.SYS :
  26.  
  27.        DEVICE=C:\ATAPI_CD.SYS
  28.        LASTDRIVE=Z
  29.  
  30. Valid options for this device driver are listed below. In most cases however,
  31. you don't need to specify any options. In case no options are specified, the 
  32. driver will search for the DR-UA124X automatically. If the device driver
  33. loads successfully but the CD-ROM can't be accessed, you must specify the 
  34. LASTDRIVE line in CONFIG.SYS.
  35.  
  36. Setting device driver options :
  37.  e.g. :
  38.     DEVICE=C:\ATAPI_CD.SYS /S:1 /D:MSCD001
  39.  
  40. [Option]
  41.     /S:x   ------> CD-ROM Drive ID.
  42.  
  43. This determines the setting of the drive to Master or Slave and the connection
  44. to the Primary or Secondary IDE channel.
  45.  
  46.     x =    0: Master Drive on Primary IDE Channel
  47.         1: Slave Drive on Primary IDE Channel
  48.         2: Master Drive on Secondary IDE Channel
  49.         3: Slave Drive on Secondary IDE Channel
  50.  
  51.     /D: *******    -->    CD-ROM Device name
  52.         e.g.:   /D:PIONEER
  53.     If you do not specify this option, a default CD-ROM Device name is used : "MSCD001".
  54.     In case you copied the device driver to a sub-directory, specify the FULL
  55.     PATH name in the "DEVICE=..... " line in CONFIG.SYS.

  57. 2.1.3  Modify AUTOEXEC.BAT
  58.  
  59. Add  the following line to AUTOEXEC.BAT.
  60.  e.g. :   MSCDEX.EXE  /D:PIONEER
  61.  
  62. Make sure the  CD-ROM Device name is same as in CONFIG.SYS : "/D:PIONEER". 
  63. (In case you didn't specify this option in CONFIG.SYS, specify : "/D:MSCD001")
  64.  
  65. 2.2 MS-Windows
  66.  
  67. In case the DR-UA124X is connected to the Primary IDE Channel and the IDE Hard
  68. Disk is set to Master mode, the 32bitDiskAccess parameter in the Windows 
  69. SYSTEM.INI file should set to OFF.
  70.  
  71. This can be achieved in two ways : 
  72.  
  73. Double-click Control Panels, then double-click 386Enhanced and uncheck
  74. the 32bitDiskAccess checkbox. Click OK and restart.
  75.  
  76. Experienced users can edit the SYSTEM.INI file in the  Windows directory :
  77.             32bitDiskAccess=OFF
  78.  
  79. 2.3 Windows NT Ver 3.5
  80.  
  81. After connecting the DR-UA124X to the primary IDE Channel in Slave mode or to
  82. the secondary IDE Channel in Master Mode (if you have connected the two hard
  83. disk to the primary IDE Channel),install Windows NT. Then the CD-ROM drive will
  84. be automatically recognized.
  85.  
  86. If you are adding the DR-UA124X to an existing Windows NT installation, refer
  87. to the section of "New device driver installation" in the Windows NT documentation. 
  88.  
  89.   Notes : If you meet the following condition, you should install the pioneer.sys
  90.           (the device driver for Windows NT 3.5) from this floppy disk.
  91.  
  92.           a) After installing the Windows NT 3.5, when you execute to copy a
  93.              large size files from the IDE CD-ROM to hard disk by the File Manager,
  94.              after the long time the error message dialog box is opened.
  95.  
  96.           b) In case the CD-ROM is available but when you access the CD-ROM in the
  97.              File Manager, the error dialog box is opened.
  98.  
  99.           If you meet the above condition, you should install the "pioneer.sys" of
  100.           the Windows NT Device Driver with the following operation.
  101.  
  102.       (1) Start the Windows NT.
  103.       (2) Execute the "Windows NT Setup".
  104.       (3) Select and pull down the "Options(O)" in menu ,then select the "Add/
  105.           Remove SCSI Adapters..." in the menu list.
  106.       (4) When you see the dialog titled "SCSI Adapter Setup", click the "Add"
  107.           button.
  108.       (5) When you see the dialog titled "Setup Message", click the "OK" button.
  109.       (6) When you see the dialog titled "Select SCSI Adapter Option", select the
  110.           "Other (Requires a disk from a hardware manufacturer)" from the item
  111.           list of the drop-dwon-combo-box named "Adapter".
  112.       (7) When you see the dialog titled "Insert Disk", insert the Driver diskette
  113.           (Label is ATAPI CD-ROM Device Driver). Then you input the "A:\WINNT" to
  114.           the edit-box and click the "OK" button.
  115.       (8) When you see the dialog titled "Select OEM Option", click the "OK" 
  116.           button.
  117.       (9) When you see the dialog titled "Select SCSI Adapter Option",confirm 
  118.           selcting teh item is "PIONEER IDE CD-ROM (ATAPI 1.2)" in the drop-down
  119.           -combo-box, and click the "Install" button.
  120.      (10) When you see the dialog titled "Setup Message",click the "OK" button
  121.      (11) After the installation is completed, you see the dialog titled "SCSI
  122.           Adapter Setup".
  123.      (12) If the IDE CD-ROM's  driver is already installed, you can see the "IDE
  124.           CD-ROM (ATAPI 1.2)" in the list-box. In this case, select the "IDE CD-
  125.           ROM (ATAPI 1.2)" and click the "Remove" button.
  126.           If the "IDE CD-ROM (ATAPI 1.2)" is not indicated, you proceed to the
  127.           step (15).

  129.      (13) when you see the dialog "Setup Message",click the "OK" button.
  130.      (14) After the remove operation is completed, the "SCSI Adapter Setup" is
  131.           indicated. Then click the "Close" button.

  133.      (15) When you return the "Windows NT Setup" window, exit the "Windows NT 
  134.           Setup" program.
  135.      (16) Shut down and reboot your computer.

  138. 2.4 OS/2 Warp Ver. 3.0
  139.  
  140. After connecting the DR-UA124X to the primary IDE Channel in Slave mode,
  141. install OS/2 Warp and choose "Other IDE CD-ROM" from the CD-ROM Device list.
