  46. INSTALLATION TIPS AND INSTRUCTIONS

  48. --If you have other Web browsers or online software, please 
  49. consider uninstalling them according to vendorÆs instructions.
  50. --At the end of installation, you may be asked to restart 
  51. Windows.  DonÆt attempt the registration process until you 
  52. have done so.
  53. --If you are experiencing modem problems trying to dial out, 
  54. try different modem selections, such as Hayes Compatible.  
  55. If you still have problems, please call Customer Care at 
  56. 1-800-400-1447.
  57. --If you are installing AT&T WorldNet Service on a PC with 
  58. Local Area Networking, please contact your LAN administrator 
  59. for set-up instructions.
  60. --Follow the initial start-up instructions given to you by 
  61. the vendor product you purchased.  These instructions will 
  62. tell you how to start the installation of the AT&T WorldNet 
  63. Service Software.
  64. --Follow the on-screen instructions to install AT&T WorldNet 
  65. Service
  66. Software on your computer.

  68. When you have finished installing the software you may be 
  69. prompted to restart your computer.  Do so when prompted.

  72. SAFEGUARD YOUR ONLINE PURCHASES

  74. By registering and continuing to charge your AT&T WorldNet 
  75. Service to your AT&T Universal Card, youÆll enjoy peace of 
  76. mind whenever you shop the Internet.  Should your account 
  77. number be compromised on the Net, you wonÆt be liable for 
  78. any online transactions charged to your AT&T Universal Card 
  79. by a person who is not an authorized user (see *A below).

  81. SETTING UP YOUR WORLDNET ACCOUNT

  83. The AT&T WorldNet Service Program group/folder will appear
  84. on your Windows desktop.
  85.  
  86. --Double click on the WorldNet Registration icon.
  87. --Follow the on-screen instructions and complete all the 
  88. stages of registration.  
  89.  
  90. After all the stages have been completed, youÆll be prompted 
  91. to dial into the network to complete the registration process.  
  92. Make sure your modem and phone line are not in use.
  93.  
  94. REGISTERING WITH AT&T WORLDNET SERVICES
  95.  
  96. Once you have connected with AT&T WorldNet online registration 
  97. service, you will be presented with a series of screens that 
  98. will confirm billing information and prompt you for additional 
  99. account set-up data.
  100.  
  101. The following is a list of registration tips and comments 
  102. that will help you during the registration process.
  103.  
  104. I. Use registration code L32QIM631 if you are an AT&T Long 
  105. Distance Customer.  Use registration code L32QIM632 if you use 
  106. another long distance carrier.
  107. II. We advise that you use all lowercase letters when assigning 
  108. an e-mail ID security code, since they are easier to remember.
  109. III. Choose a special "security code" that you will use to verify 
  110. who you are when you call Customer Care.
  111. IV. If you make a mistake and exit the registration process 
  112. prematurely, all you need to do is click on "Create New Account".  
  113. Do not click on "Edit Existing Account".
  114. V. When choosing your local access telephone number, you will be 
  115. given several options.  Please choose the one nearest to you.  
  116. Please note that calling a number within your area does not 
  117. guarantee that the call is free.

  119. CONNECTING TO AT&T WORLDNET SERVICE
  120.  
  121. When you have finished registering with AT&T WorldNet Service 
  122. you are ready to make online connections.

  124. --Make sure your modem and phone line are available.
  125. --Double click on the AT&T WorldNet Service icon.
  126.  
  127. Follow these steps whenever you wish to connect to AT&T WorldNet 
  128. Service.

  130. CHOOSE THE PLAN THAT'S RIGHT FOR YOU
  131.  
  132. If youÆre an AT&T Long Distance residential customer signing up 
  133. in 1996, you can experience this exciting new service for 5 free 
  134. hours a month for one full year. Beyond your 5 free hours, youÆll 
  135. be charged only $2.50 for each additional hour.  Just use the service 
  136. for a minimum of one hour per month.  If you intend to use AT&T 
  137. WorldNet Service for more than 5 hours a month, consider choosing 
  138. the plan with unlimited hours for $19.95 per month (see *B below).
  139.  
  140. If youÆre not an AT&T Long Distance residential customer, you can 
  141. still benefit from AT&T quality and reliability by starting with 
  142. the plan that offers 3 hours each month and a low monthly fee of 
  143. $4.95.  Under this plan youÆll be charged $2.50 for each additional 
  144. hour, or AT&T WorldNet Service can provide you with unlimited online 
  145. access for $24.95 per month.  ItÆs entirely up to you.

  152. MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  154. To run AT&T WorldNet Service on a PC, you need:

  156. --An IBM-compatible personal computer with a 386 processor or better
  157. --Microsoft Windows 3.1x or Windows 95
  158. --8MB RAM (16MB or more recommended)
  159. --11MB of free hard disk space
  160. --14.4 bps (or faster) modem (28.8 bps is recommended)
  161. --A standard phone line
  162.  
  163. To run AT&T WorldNet Service on Macintosh, you need:
  164.  
  165. --MacintoshTM System 7.1 or higher
  166. --Open Transport architecture requires Version 1.1 or higher.
  167. --8 MB of RAM (or more for better performance)
  168. --12MB of available hard disk space (15MB recommended)
  169. --14.4 bps modem connected to an outside phone line
  170.  
  171. You will need to obtain system update software, known as the 
  172. 7.5.3 revision II Patch if your Macintosh computer:

  174. --is a PCI PowerMac (7200, 7500, 7600, 8500, 9500)
  175. --is a 5300 based PowerBook
  176. --has PowerBookÆs Ram Doubler running or DOS-compatible software 
  177. installed

  179. The software can be obtained from Apple by calling 1-800-293-6617 
  180. (Canada 1-800-361-6075) or via AppleÆs download FTP site located at:
  181. ftp://ftp.support.apple.com/pub/apple_sw_updates/US/Macintosh/System.

  183. If your computer meets the requirements listed above, youÆre ready 
  184. to install the AT&T WorldNet Service software in this package.  
  185. ItÆs a simple process and, of course, AT&T is ready to help you every 
  186. step of the way.
