  7. This readme file contains important information about this
  8. PowerAlbum release.  It includes a list of new features,
  9. restrictions, and solutions to problems you may encounter.

  24. 1. Installation.
  25. ----------------
  26.   PowerAlbum may be installed on Windows 95, Windows NT or 
  27.   Windows 3.1. If you are running in Windows 3.1, PowerAlbum
  28.   will install the Win32s DLLs and the Microsoft Video for 
  29.   Windows drivers onto your system.

  32. 2. New and Improved Features.
  33. -----------------------------
  34.   This release contains a substantial amount of new functionality.
  35.  
  36.    a.    RESIZABLE BOOK.
  37.     PowerAlbum's Book view window is completely resizable. You
  38.     decide how much or how little to display on the screen.
  39.  
  40.    b.      FILMSTRIP.
  41.         A completely new User Interface designed to provide all
  42.     the functionality of PowerAlbum while using very little
  43.     screen space. You can decide how large or small the 
  44.     Filmstrip will display and whether to display it in 
  45.     vertical or horizontal orientation. This new view is 
  46.     very powerful for Drag and Drop usage. You can toggle
  47.     between Filmstrip and Book views.

  49.    c.    ALWAYS ON TOP.
  50.         You can select the Always on Top option to make the
  51.     albums easily accessible for Drag and Drop with other
  52.     applications.

  54.    d.      DRAG AND DROP.
  55.         PowerAlbum now has full Drag and Drop functionality with
  56.     all OLE 2.0 applications. This simplifies the usage of
  57.     all your organized files.

  59.    e.    VARIABLE THUMBNAIL SIZES.
  60.         You can choose to display the thumbnails in five different
  61.     sizes - tiny, small, medium, large and huge. You can have
  62.     different thumbnail sizes in the Book and Filmstrip views.

  64.    f.    FRAMES.
  65.         Multiple objects, or files, may be placed in a frame. The 
  66.     Frame feature makes grouping and cross-referencing files
  67.     very simple.

  69.    g.      EXPANDED FILE FORMAT SUPPORT.
  70.         PowerAlbum now supports all file types. You can organize
  71.     everything from pictures to videos to spreadsheets. Any
  72.     file type can be organized and documented.

  74.    h.    EXPANDED OBJECT DEFINITION.
  75.         Every object, or file, orgainized in PowerAlbum has four
  76.     properties: filename, name, keywords and description. 
  77.     This allows more detailed documentation and search
  78.     capabilities.

  80.    i.     EXPORT PICTURES TO NEW FORMATS.
  81.         You can convert your pictures to other file formats.
  82.         See the Picture Export Restrictions section for a list
  83.     of restrictions.

  85.    j.     EXPANDED SLIDE SHOW FEATURES.
  86.         The slide show now has transition options. This feature
  87.     can be used as a personalized screen saver. Slide show
  88.     transitions can only be used with raster images.

  91. 3. Tips for Using and Building Albums.
  92. --------------------------------------
  93.    a.    COPY ALBUMS TO THE HARD DRIVE
  94.     Using and opening albums is faster when the albums are 
  95.     copied to the hard drive versus reading    them directly
  96.     from the CD-ROM. This also allows the albums to be 
  97.     viewed without the CD-ROM in the drive.

  99.    b.    MAXIMUM  ALBUM SIZE IS 2,000 OBJECTS
  100.     While PowerAlbum can build albums larger, it is best to
  101.     keep the album size under 2,000 objects. This makes the
  102.     easier to use and faster to open.

  104. 4. Information for Calendar Creator Users.
  105. ------------------------------------------
  106.   PowerAlbum 95 is fully compatible with Calendar Creator 3.0
  107.   for Windows 95.

  110. 5. Information for PowerAlbum 1.x and 2.x Users.
  111. ------------------------------------------------
  112.   PowerAlbum 95 can also work with albums (ALB files) from
  113.   PowerAlbum 1.x and 2.x or Calendar Creator for Windows,
  114.   1.x or 2.x. However, to use these albums, it is necessary
  115.   to import the old ALB album into PowerAlbum 95 and save it
  116.   as a PWR file. The new PWR album cannot be used in previous
  117.   versions of PowerAlbum.
  118.   Note: The album import process is relatively slow.

  121. 6. Picture Export Restrictions.
  122. -------------------------------
  123.   The following limitations apply to Exporting Pictures in
  124.   PowerAlbum:
  125.  
  126.     1)  No vector image can be exported to a raster format.
  127.     2)  No raster image can be exported to a vector format.
  128.     3)  No PCD can be exported to another raster format.

  131. 6. Video Import and Playing Problems.

  133.   In Win32s, if you cannot add or play video files, make sure you
  134.   have installed the Video For Windows Runtime drivers described
  135.   in the Installation section above.
