- U.S. SUPREME COURT OPINIONS AVAILABLE ON INTERNET
-
- The Supreme Court opinion files are available over the Internet and
- are a good example of how the Internet can be used for the
- distribution of information.
-
- Connect to host <ftp.cwru.edu> using anonymous FTP, and follow
- the instructions contained in the various README files.
- The README files contain information on what type of decisions are
- in the documents at hermes, and the INDEX file is useful to fine
- the correct decision.
-
- This is occurring under an experimental program called
- "Project Hermes" begun in 1990. The objective is to rapidly
- provide copies of the Court's opinions in electronic form to as
- wide an audience as possible. A consortium composed of Case Western
- Reserve University (CWRU), EDUCOM, and the National Public
- Telecomputing Network (NPTN) is one of the implementing
- organizations of the project.
-
- The full text of the Court's opinions are available within minutes of their
- release without charge.
-
- Access is also provided at <aa584@cleveland.freenet.edu>
-
- For those in the law field--whether lawyer or librarian--instant
- information over the Internet can be a boon.
