  3. N-1-2-040.30 Internet Research Task Force (IRTF) by Jon Postel*,

  7. The Internet Activities Board (IAB) has appointed Jon Postel of USC's
  8. Information Sciences Institute as the new head of the Internet
  9. Research Task Force and its coordinating committee, the IRSG.
  10.  
  11. Jon has been an active member of the Internet research community since
  12. its beginnings, and before that played a major role in defining the
  13. ARPANET protocols.  As "protocol czar", he finalized the
  14. specifications of such protocols as TCP, IP, and SMTP.  As RFC Editor,
  15. he has been responsible for the editorial and technical quality of the
  16. RFC series of notes.

  18. Jon takes over from Dave Clark of MIT's Laboratory for Computer
  19. Science.  Dave has chaired the IRTF from its beginning, and has made
  20. many contributions to the research groups.

  22. The IRTF is composed of research groups including: The Autonomous
  23. Networks Research Group chaired by Deborah Estrin of USC, The
  24. End-to-End Services Research Group chaired by Bob Braden of ISI, the
  25. Resource Discovery and Directory Services Research Group chaired by
  26. Mike Schwartz of University of Colorado, the Privacy and Security
  27. Research Group chaired by Steve Kent of BBN, and a Research Group
  28. chaired by Cliff Lynch of the University of California, Office of the
  29. President.  The IRSG is composed of the chairs of these research
  30. groups as well as Dave Mills of the University of Delaware, Bruce
  31. Schatz of the University of Arizona, and Dave Clark of MIT as members
  32. at large.
