- 012.55 HUNGARY
- by Laszlo Csaba <IB006CSA%HUEARN.BITNET@uga.cc.uga.edu>
-
- By the end of 1991, the limitations on technology transfer and the concern
- of politicians about the access of sensitive information by east Europeans
- eased to a great extent. As a result, the Hungarian TCP/IP
- networks are gradually gaining access to the world, and by this way becoming
- Internet networks.
-
- The application of Hungary for Internet domain name in 1990 and receiving
- "HU" made for us possible to introduce domain style addressing and open
- international e-mail service via a mailer gateway named ELLA.HU. The
- messages at that time were sent to Internet via a geteway of EUnet.
- Since then Hungarian networks have got then IP network addresses, (four
- "B" and six "C" type) and now international IP traffic is passing through
- three 9.6 kbps leased lines.
-
- We hope that by the middle of this year two 64.kbps lines will be available
- mainly for TCP/IP traffic supporting our access to various networks, like
- EARN/BITNET, HEPnet, EUnet and Internet.
-
- The representatives of HUGARNET - which is the association and the name
- of the Hungarian Academic and Research Network - are taking part in the
- work of RIPE, getting more and more knowledgable and taking leading
- roles in European IP initiatives.
