  1.          Recommendation U.4
  2.                                  EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION REGARDING SIGNALS 
  3.                               DESTINED TO BE USED OVER INTERNATIONAL CIRCUITS 
  4.                                 CONCERNED WITH SWITCHED TELEPRINTER NETWORKS
  5.                            (former CCIT Recommendation E.4, Geneva, 1956;
  6.                            modified at New Delhi, 1960 and Geneva, 1972)
  7.                The CCITT,
  8.          considering
  9.                (a) that certain signals and certain characteristics of signals used in the
  10.          international telex service have been standardized in Recommendation U.1;
  11.                (b) that certain Administrations have introduced  automatic  telex  transit
  12.          switching facilities based upon the signalling standards shown in  Recommendation
  13.          U.1;
  14.                (c) that standardized signals for the European  switched  network  for  the
  15.          public telegram service (gentex network) are advocated in Recommendation U.30;
  16.                (d) that in view of the foregoing an exchange of information regarding  the
  17.          precise nature of the signals proposed to be used in the above-mentioned services
  18.          by interested Administrations would be very useful;
  19.                (e)  that  certain  Administrations  have  already  supplied  such  details
  20.          regarding their telex services in a useful form (see supplements to the documents
  21.          of the VIIIth Plenary Assembly of the CCIT, and subsequent Plenary Assemblies  of
  22.          the CCITT),
  23.          unanimously recommends
  24.                that Administrations concerned  in  the  international  telex  service  and
  25.          gentex network be invited to supply to the CCITT time-sequence  diagrams  showing
  26.          in each case the signals at present transmitted or  proposed  to  be  transmitted
  27.          over the international circuit for incoming calls. The diagrams should  show  not
  28.          only the sequence and  characteristics  of  the  signals,  but  also  the  timing
  29.          tolerances to be expected. The diagrams should  show  the  signalling  conditions
  30.          applicable to transit as well as to terminal calls, including any  conversion  of
  31.          the signals that are received from the destination network.
