  1. I believe that there were.  In U of M Franz, we stuck in a version of
  2. malloc and free that uses the Lisp allocator to get unGCable memory,
  3. and a host of problems with the window library went away ... (the
  4. window library uses malloc & free quite, er, freely :-) ).
