- Each of the mit-<N> and contrib-<N> directories contains a single tar file,
- split into pieces, plus a file (CHECKSUMS) of the checksums for each piece,
- plus a compressed listing (FILES.Z) of all the files in the tar file.
- The split pieces are all 512k (524288 bytes) long (except for the last piece)
- and must be transfered in binary mode. You will find it useful to turn off
- interactive prompting in ftp (start ftp with the -i option or use the "prompt"
- command) and use the "mget" command to retrieve the files.
-
- After transferring all of the files, please read the release notes for
- information on how to extract and build the software.
-
- If you are getting the MIT core distribution, you would do well to also
- get and apply all public fixes before you build it.
-
