  2. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE

  4. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  5. before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  6. using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
  7. differ on details -- some request registration while others
  8. require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  9. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
  10. using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  12. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
  13. and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  14. exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
  15. programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
  16. of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
  17. and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  18. distribution.  The author specifically grants the right to copy
  19. and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to
  20. a specific group. For example, some authors require written
  21. permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
  22. Shareware.

  24. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
  25. should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether
  26. it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting
  27. your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.  And
  28. because the overhead is low, prices are low also.  Shareware has
  29. the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the product,
  30. you don't pay for it.

  33. DISCLAIMER AND LICENSE AGREEMENT

  35. Users of Solve-It must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
  36. "Solve-It" is supplied as is.  The author disclaims all
  37. warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation,
  38. the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose.
  39. The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or
  40. consequential, which may result from the use of Solve-It.
  41. Good data processing procedure dictates that any program be
  42. thoroughly tested with non-critical data before relying on it,
  43. and the user assumes the entire risk of using the program."

  45. Solve-It is a "shareware program" and is provided at no
  46. charge to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with
  47. your friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part
  48. of another system.  The essence of "user-supported" software is
  49. to provide personal computer users with quality software without
  50. high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
  51. continue to develop new products.

  53. If you find this program useful and find that you are using 
  54. Solve-It and continue to use Solve-It after a
  55. reasonable trial period, you must make a registration payment of
  56. $14.95 (plus $5.00 S&H per order) to Compleat Software.
  57. The $14.95 registration fee will license one copy for use on
  58. any one computer at any one time.

  60. You must treat this software just like a book.  An example is
  61. that this software may be used by any number of people and may
  62. be freely moved from one computer location to another, so long
  63. as there is no possibility of it being used at one location while
  64. it's being used at another, just as a book cannot be read by two
  65. different persons at the same time.

  67. Commercial users of Solve-It must register and pay for their
  68. copies of Solve-It within 30 days of first use or their
  69. license is withdrawn.  Site-License arrangements may be made by
  70. contacting Compleat Software.

  72. Anyone distributing Solve-It for any kind of remuneration
  73. must first contact Compleat Software at the address below for
  74. authorization.  This authorization will be automatically granted to
  75. distributors recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines
  76. for shareware distributors, and such distributors may begin offering
  77. Solve-It immediately (However, Compleat Software must still
  78. be advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-date with the
  79. latest version of Solve-It).

  81. You are encouraged to pass a copy of Solve-It along to your
  82. friends for evaluation.  Please encourage them to register their
  83. copy if they find that they can use it.  All registered users will
  84. receive a copy of the latest version of Solve-It.
