- SECTION III: INSTRUCTIONS
-
- Insanity I and II are two-token text adventures. Your input must be
- limited to either a verb (alone) or a verb/noun combination. Sample
- verbs accepted by the games are given below.
-
- Insanity III has a four-token parser. It translates your input into
- the same two-token verb/noun combination, but takes out any "noise"
- words such as "THE", "A", "AN", or "AT".
-
- Verbs typically understood by the parsers are:
-
- LOOK - This will give you a description of either
- the surrounding area, or if this command
- is given with a noun, the program will
- describe the object. You may abbreviate
- this "L".
-
- EXAMINE - This will give a more detailed description
- of an object either in the room or in
- your possession. It can be abbreviated "X".
-
- GET - This takes an item from the room and adds
- it to your inventory.
-
- DROP - This will take an item you are carrying and
- discards it in the room you are currently
- in.
-
- I - This is short for INVENTORY which takes
- an inventory of all that you are carrying.
-
- GO - Followed by a direction, this command will
- move you to another area. You can also
- just type in the direction (EAST, NORTH,
- UP) or an abbreviation (E, N, U, etc.).
- The four compass point directions, as
- well as UP and DOWN are available. IN,
- OUT, ENTER, and EXIT are sometimes
- available as well.
-
- Sometimes you can talk to someone. They usually ask you yes/no
- questions to which you may respond. This doesn't always mean that
- yes and no are the only answers that will be understood.

- SECTION IV: BACKGROUND
-
- The Dreamworld Trilogy is a series of three text-adventures in the
- classic sense (no graphics, no music, just text descriptions and your
- imagination). The story places you in the role of a man who is
- suffering from very vivid dreams; these dreams take him into another
- land, one in which beings called the Dream Masters dwell and plot to
- take control of the real world. The character you play is the link.
- Because of his peculiar nature, these dream-beings intend to use him
- as a crossing point between the Dreamworld and Reality. It is through
- breaking him, and subjugating him to obey their every whim, that they
- intend to do this.
-
- You aren't going to let them get that far.
-
- Insanity I: The Triangle -- In the first part of the Trilogy, you begin
- the game already in the dream world. Everything is out of the ordinary,
- and nothing behaves rationally. All you can do is try to survive, and
- search for some sort of escape from the Arena.
-
- Insanity II: A Temporary Rest of Reality -- The second part takes you
- back to the Arena in which you will learn to take advantage of your
- imagination in order to shape the dream reality around you. By joining
- up with some so-called dreamlord rebels, you manage to overthrow the
- Dream Masters and escape once and for all...
-
- Insanity III: Shards of Illusion -- ... or so you thought. In the
- final adventure, you learn the truth behind the dreamlords, Dream
- Masters, and the nature of their reality.
