-
- SCARYFISH is marketed as shareware and protected by copyright. You can
- distribute SCARYFISH as long as
- 1) the charge is less than $6.00 (unless you include this with SCHTKR)
- 2) you identify your catalog's products as shareware
- 3) all files are included unmodified with the following exceptions:
- -this file (VENDOR.DOC) can (and probably should) be eliminated
- unless your customers include a lot of vendors and sysops.
- -README1.TXT can be eliminated if your help file contains the
- appropriate startup and installation instructions.
-
- You can add appropriate help files to the distribution disk, such as a
- file that reads the documentation, or an installation program.
-
- Retail rack vendors: you must contact the author to get permission to
- include any PMP Software product(s) on retail racks.
-
- CD-ROM vendors: you're allowed to include this program, but you should
- notify PMP Software of your intent to include it. Since the game saves
- files (SCARY2.CFG, RECORDS.SF2, etc), it can't really be run from a CD-ROM.
-
- File list: SCARY2.EXE
- SCARY2.DOC
- *.SF2 (19 files: file01 - file10, world1 - world8, records)
- ORDER.FRM
- HISTORY.TXT
- READ.ME
- README1.TXT (optional see above)
- FILE_ID.DIZ
- CONTEST.TXT
- ENTRY.FRM
-
- If you have a preferred installation method or want to compress as one
- file, I do not mind a substitution as long as all files are included
- and the game can still be run from all sizes of disk and drive.
-
- Sysops of BBS's, FTP sites, information networks such as Compuserve,
- GEnie, Delphi, etc, and CD-ROM shareware collections:
- Use whatever legal archive compression method you want.
- FILE_ID.DIZ is included for BBS use. Suggested archive names are
- SCARY2.ZIP,
- SCARY2.*** for non-zip compression,
- SCARY21.EXE for self-extracting,
- SCARYFSH.*** if you only want letters in the archive name
- For this version, SCARY21.*** is acceptable. I tell people to search
- for SCARY*.* so anything starting with SCARY is fine.
-
- Sugg. One-Line Description: "Multi-species Fishing Game, 1-4 players"
- (that alone could bring in many orders!)
-
- FILE_ID.DIZ has some good short descriptions. The first lines are the
- best; insert articles & verbs as necessary.
-
- The file SCARY2.DOC gives more information on the game's many features.
- The first paragraph contains copy that could be excerpted for a multi-
- sentence description. Here are some possible description excerpts:
-
- Graphics not required, but supports VGA, EGA, CGA, and Hercules modes
- Has a "relaxing" mode and a competitive tournament mode
- A number of humorous mishaps can occur
- Includes "screensaver" with fish species anglers care about
- Maintains extensive list of records for fishing success (with over 10K
- of records, this is one of the most extensive lists of highscores in
- computer game history!)
- Results will be different every time you run the game
- Can run the game over and over again without tiring of it
- Menu-driven
- Build up a character, rewarded monetarily for your fishing prowess, use the
- money to buy more bait and tackle.
- Shareware version gives the user access to over 2 dozen species
- Tournament mode has many options, literally billions of combinations
- Extremely realistic
- Shareware version gives the user access to almost 50 holes in 3 "worlds"
- Contest involving game's records with over 100 ways to win
-
- Subjective words: exciting, fun, interesting, suspenseful, humorous,
- challenging.
-
- The game has the following system requirements:
- Memory: at least 470K for graphics modes, 400K for Text/AN. If you list
- memory requirements as a multiple of 128, you can say 512K.
- Graphics modes: None required, but supports VGA, EGA, CGA, and Hercules
- modes.
- No special accessories required (mouse, sound card, printer, etc)
- Minimum DOS is very old; uses no special commands from DOS 4, 5, or 6.
-
- Registration is $15 without disk, $20 with the latest version on disk.
- Two add-ons (Sequel Worlds $12, Make Your Own Worlds Utility $15) require
- being registered, so if you list fees you can say $15, $15-20, or $15-47.
-
- S&H is free to USA addresses, $2 Canada, $5 elsewhere. Registration incentives
- include access to 5 huge additional worlds, a printed 28-page user manual,
- notification of major updates, and the ability to access worlds created
- with the Make Your Own Worlds Utility.
-
- Notes when evaluating the game:
-
- To access all the shareware worlds: create a character, visit the store,
- and buy both $5 trips (Medium-Sized River and Local Bass Lakes). If you
- want to test the tournament mode, make multiple characters and have them
- all buy tickets to the same "world". Buy a rod other than El Cheapo to
- make setting the hook easier. At Medium-Sized River, go east and a bit
- south to find the boat.
-
- You might see a lot of "Not Available" in the option menus. This is because
- a character starts out with only a small percentage of items, analagous to a
- D&D-type game where a character starts with only a few weapons, armor,
- spells, etc. The program is not crippled! A few items (motor, depthfinder,
- some rods) are very expensive and require playing the game many times. The
- few items not available at any shareware worlds are unnecessary for use at
- the shareware worlds (saltwater tackle, jet motor, etc.)
-
- Screen Shots:
- If you want to have a screen shot of the game, I'd recommend either a
- shot of "moving around in an outside world" at Medium-Sized River or
- Local Bass Lakes in VGA or EGA, or the "screensaver" in VGA 640x480 mode.
- A screen shot of "moving around in the world" would be best right after
- you reach a hole (X) so there are four lines of text. The most colorful
- would be in a boat in Medium-Sized River at a hole like "Downstream Riffle",
- "Bend In River", "Upstream Riffle", "Pond 7 Cove", or "Castle Hole".
- If you want a screen shot of the "screensaver", it is recommended you
- press the Pause key before taking the screen shot. Try to have at least
- 6 fish in the picture of at least 3 different species, with at least one
- big fish. Try to have all the fish fully drawn without a fish being
- partially erased. Screens 2,5,6,11, and 12 have a lot of variety. Other
- interesting screensaver shots might occur if you do a session at Medium-
- Sized River or Local Bass Lakes, then choose "Back to Screensaver" from
- the main menu. This will make new species distributions.
- A screen shot after making a cast is not recommended since the graphics are
- kind of flickery and there is often a lot of blank space.

-
- A related PMP Software freely-distributable product:
-
- SCHTKR v1.1 - ScaryFish world editing util.
- Many options. Create your own "worlds".
- Stock fishing holes or let computer stock
- them. Worlds can have up to 32 species from
- a list of over 40. Extensive documentation.
- Includes 2 example files, test mode, screen-
- saver, best worlds contest rules, and more!
- Keywords: games sports fishing ScaryFish PMP
- Freeware "lite" version of Make Your Own
- Worlds Util ($15),almost identical. 384K RAM
-
- Disk Distributors: it is possible to fit SCARYFISH and SCHTKR on the
- same disk if they're both compressed. You can put these two programs
- together as long as it doesn't require a hard drive or two floppies to
- install them, or your catalog says you assume customers have a hard
- drive or 2 floppies.
