- MESSIAH2 TILE SET

- as in our previous tile set, Messiah.til, all of the symbols
- in the Messiah2 set are authentic Christian symbols found from a
- variety of sources. Some of the tiles, however, are combinations
- of one or more symbols which we put together to add color and
- beauty to the set.

- Following is a brief description of the tiles:
-
- 1. Cross and crown symbolizes a reward for those who are
- faithful unto death.
-
- 2. The Cross Fitchee was used by the crusaders who would
- thrust the lower, pointed end into the ground during
- devotions.
-
- 3. Celtic Cross, sometimes called the Cross of Iona.
-
- 4. The Calvary Cross, sometimes called the Graded Cross.
-
- 5. The Latin Cross.
-
- 6. The Cross behind the Bible symbolizes the Apostle Paul
- who was called "the Sword of the Spirit." The Bible
- usually has the words "Spiritus Gladius" written on it.

- 7. The Cross and triangle is a symbol mostly seen in church
- embroidery. It means that Christ is one in the Holy
- Trinity.

- 8. Saint Julian's Cross: four Latin Crosses joined at their
- bases.

- 9. The Latin Cross mixed with the Alpha and Omega symbols
- which signify the beginning and the end.

- 10. The Chi Rho: The "X" = Chi, and the "P" = Rho. Together
- they symbolize Christ.

- 11. Shield of St. Augustine who was made a bishop in the
- English Church.

- 12. The pierced heart: symbol for Mary the Mother of Jesus.
- "Yea, and a sword shall pierce through thine own soul."
- Luke 2:35.

- 13. The Cup and the Cross signifies the bitter suffering
- of Christ in Gethsemane and on the Cross.

- 14. All Seeing Eye of God.

- 15. The dragon stands for Satan, sin, and pestilence.

- 16. Bell: sounds forth the Word of God.
-
- 17. Alpha and Omega: Christ is the Beginning and the End.
-
- 18. Stained glass window with the "Fleur De Lis" symbol which
- is a symbol for Mary.

- 19. The Sun: The Son of Righteousness.

- 20. Alpha-Mu-Omega: yesterday, today, and forever.

- 21. The butterfly is a symbol for the Resurrection and
- eternal life.

- 22. The shield of St. Clement, who was converted by Saint Paul,
- was martyred by being cast into the sea (about 100 AD).

- 23. Candlestick: Jesus is the Light of the world.
-
- 24. Church with Cross. Jesus shines over His Church.

- 25. Elijah was taken up into Heaven by a flaming chariot.
-
- 26. The Archangel Gabriel who brought news to Mary that she
- would have a son: Jesus.

- 27. The Lamb of God (Jesus) with the banner of victory.

- 28. The lion: representative of the tribe of Judah.
-
- 29. Thw wolf: representative of the tribe of Benjamin.

- 30. Christian flag.

- 31-34. The Cross Crosslet: four Latin Crosses joined in
- the center (and standing upright) represents the
- spread of Christianity to the four corners of
- the Earth.

- 35-38. Serpent and apple tree.
-
- 39-42. The Papal Cross: used only in processions when the
- Pope is actually present.
