  1. This distribution contains the following files:

  3.     WFTPD.HLP     - the help file that goes with this program.
  4.    README.TXT     - that should be this file.
  5.  WFTPD240.TXT     - A file briefly describing the features of WFTPD.
  6.   FILE_ID.DIZ     - Short text note of WFTPD's purpose for BBS, etc
  7.  WFTPDPRO.TXT     - Announcement of WFTPD Pro, for Windows NT.
  8.     WSFAQ.TXT     - Frequently Asked Questions on the alt.winsock newsgroup.

  10. In the Win32 files, for NT and Windows 95 users:
  11.     WFTPD.EXE     - the executable program itself.
  12.  
  13. In the Win16 files, for Windows 3.1x users:
  14.   CTL3DV2.DLL     - Microsoft's 3D control library - only needed for Win3.1x
  15.     WFTPD.EXE     - the executable program itself.

  17. IMPORTANT!!!  CTL3DV2.DLL (if you use it) must only go in your
  18. \WINDOWS or \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directories - anywhere else will
  19. result in a warning message every time you start WFTPD.  That
  20. means you should move it to that directory, and delete it from
  21. your main WFTPD directory.  If you have a more recent version in
  22. one of these directories, you may simply delete this one.
  23. CTL3DV2.DLL is ONLY required for Windows 3.1x - Windows 95 and
  24. NT do NOT need this file, and you may delete it.

  26. Brief installation instructions:
  27. 1. Decide where to install WFTPD.
  28. 2. Select the appropriate components to install:
  29.    WFTPD.HLP   - the help file
  30.    WFTPD.EXE   - the executable file.
  31.    CTL3DV2.DLL - provides the 3D look for Windows 3.1 (if needed)
  32. 3. Copy the first two files (WFTPD.*) to your installation directory
  33. 4. (on Windows 3.1 only) move CTL3DV2.DLL to your Windows directory.
  34. 5. The other files are ancillary text files.  Read them and decide
  35.    whether you want to keep them with your WFTPD installation.  They
  36.    are not required for WFTPD, but may provide useful information.

  38. The registration/ordering instructions and order form are included in
  39. the WFTPD.HLP file.  Please also read the file WFTPDPRO.TXT for
  40. information on WFTPD Pro, the "next generation" of FTP servers for
  41. Windows NT (and soon, for Windows 95) from Texas Imperial Software.
  42. Registration of WFTPD lifts the restrictions placed on editing the
  43. greeting and farewell messages, as well as the limit on the number of
  44. transfers per session.  Registered users with current email addresses
  45. are placed in a mailing list, and kept apprised of new work on WFTPD
  46. and WFTPD Pro.  In a less tangible benefit, each new user is further
  47. encouragement to us to continue work on WFTPD, WFTPD Pro and other
  48. programs.  And, of course, we are more likely to implement requests for 
  49. features from our registered users.

  51. The WFTPD.HLP file is also where all the documentation resides.  To
  52. run it without running WFTPD, use the standard Windows Help, and
  53. use File|Open to open this help file.  On most installations, you
  54. may simply use File|Run from Program Manager, or Start|Run in Windows
  55. 95 / NT 4.0, and enter the path of the help file.  Please read the
  56. help file before running, and for the answers to most of the questions
  57. that have already been asked.

  66. embarrassing, surely, as complaining publicly about a problem, and then
  67. seeing just as public a response from us saying "It's in the
  68. instructions," or "You're running an old version," etc.  The success of
  69. future shareware depends on your encouragement.
