  28. TO PLAY THIS CD-ROM

  30. Insert the "How Computers Work" CD-ROM into your
  31. computer's CD-ROM drive.

  33. The CD-ROM will begin to play automatically.
  34.  
  35. If after a few moments the CD doesn't begin playing,
  36. click the START menu. Click on RUN.

  38. In the text field, type d:\HCWintro.exe (where d:\ is
  39. the name of your CD-ROM drive. If the name of your
  40. CD-ROM drive is another letter, such as E, then type
  41. in that letter.)

  43. Your "How Computers Work" CD-ROM runs best with your
  44. graphics display set to 16 bit (Thousands of colors).
  45. Also set your monitor's resolution to 800 X 600 or
  46. larger. Please use these settings to maximize your
  47. Multimedia experience.

  51. GRAPHICS DISPLAY
  52.  
  53. Please use the DISPLAY dialog box to set your monitor
  54. to 16 bit (Thousands of colors).  To do this, you must
  55. first choose SETTINGS under the Start menu, then choose
  56. CONTROL PANEL.  Double-click on the DISPLAY icon and
  57. select the SETTINGS tab. Under COLOR PALETTE choose
  58. "HIGH COLOR (16 bit)". Select APPLY, or OK, and follow
  59. instructions.

  63. HOW TO USE THIS CD-ROM
  64.  
  65. This CD-ROM begins with several Introduction screens
  66. followed by the Main screen. When you point with your
  67. mouse to the computer components shown on the Main screen,
  68. they will become high-lighted. Click on the left mouse
  69. button and you will be taken to Special Subject screens
  70. that have more detail.

  72. When you are on the Special Subject screens and click
  73. the left mouse button while over a high-lighted component,
  74. the narrator will explain the function of that component.
  75. Please note that only those components that light up when
  76. you roll over them have narration.

  80. TROUBLESHOOTING

  82. If the program fails to run correctly, it is probably due
  83. to out-of-date drivers in your system. In this event,
  84. please contact your computer provider for the newest drivers.
  85. In most cases, drivers can be downloaded from the providers'
  86. internet website.
