- TO PLAY THIS CD-ROM
-
- Insert the "How Computers Work" CD-ROM into your
- computer's CD-ROM drive.

- The CD-ROM will begin to play automatically.
-
- If after a few moments the CD doesn't begin playing,
- click the START menu. Click on RUN.
-
- In the text field, type d:\HCWintro.exe (where d:\ is
- the name of your CD-ROM drive. If the name of your
- CD-ROM drive is another letter, such as E, then type
- in that letter.)

- Your "How Computers Work" CD-ROM runs best with your
- graphics display set to 16 bit (Thousands of colors).
- Also set your monitor's resolution to 800 X 600 or
- larger. Please use these settings to maximize your
- Multimedia experience.

- GRAPHICS DISPLAY
-
- Please use the DISPLAY dialog box to set your monitor
- to 16 bit (Thousands of colors). To do this, you must
- first choose SETTINGS under the Start menu, then choose
- CONTROL PANEL. Double-click on the DISPLAY icon and
- select the SETTINGS tab. Under COLOR PALETTE choose
- "HIGH COLOR (16 bit)". Select APPLY, or OK, and follow
- instructions.

- HOW TO USE THIS CD-ROM
-
- This CD-ROM begins with several Introduction screens
- followed by the Main screen. When you point with your
- mouse to the computer components shown on the Main screen,
- they will become high-lighted. Click on the left mouse
- button and you will be taken to Special Subject screens
- that have more detail.

- When you are on the Special Subject screens and click
- the left mouse button while over a high-lighted component,
- the narrator will explain the function of that component.
- Please note that only those components that light up when
- you roll over them have narration.

- TROUBLESHOOTING
-
- If the program fails to run correctly, it is probably due
- to out-of-date drivers in your system. In this event,
- please contact your computer provider for the newest drivers.
- In most cases, drivers can be downloaded from the providers'
- internet website.
