  1. Access through the TYMNET
  2. network into the CompuServe
  3. Service incurs a communications
  4. surcharge.  The rates can be
  5. found on Page CIS-4.  TYMNET is
  6. a communication network provided
  7. by TYMNET Inc.  and is available
  8. by a local phone call from many
  9. locations within the United
  10. States, Puerto Rico and Canada
  11. (through DataPac).
  12.  
  13.   1.  DIAL THE TYMNET NETWORK PHONE
  14. NUMBER
  15.   (Surcharges will apply.) Listen for
  16. the continuous, high-pitched tone. 
  17. Redial if you do not hear this tone.
  18.   2.  CONNECT COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT
  19. WITH TELEPHONE AND TERMINAL/
  20. MICROCOMPUTER
  21.   If using an acoustic coupler, properly
  22. position the telephone handset in the
  23. coupler.  If using a modem, connect
  24. according to your modem's instructions.
  25. If using a microcomputer, connect your
  26. communications equipment and execute the
  27. terminal emulator program.
  28.   3.  ENTER TERMINAL IDENTIFIER
  29.   TYMNET will cause the prompt PLEASE
  30. TYPE YOUR TERMINAL IDENTIFIER to display
  31. on your screen.  If you are logging on
  32. at any other speed than 300 baud, this
  33. message will be garbled.  Type in the
  34. letter A. DO NOT follow your entry by
  35. pressing the <ENTER> key.  For example:
  36. PLEASE TYPE YOUR TERMINAL ID:  A
  37.   4.  ENTER USER NAME
  38.   TYMNET will next prompt you with
  39. PLEASE LOG IN.  Enter one of the
  40. following user names:
  41.   CIS02,CIS03,CIS04,CPS01
  42. followed by pressing the <ENTER> key. 
  43. If you make a mistake entering the user
  44. name, press the ESCAPE key and reenter
  45. the
  46. user name.  An example of typing in the
  47. daytime host name is as follows:
  48.  PLEASE LOG IN: CPS01  <ENTER>
  49. Note:  If you are using a half duplex
  50. terminal, enter a ^H (by pressing down
  51. and holding the CONTROL key while
  52. simultaneously pressing the H key), and
  53. then type in the user name.
  54.   5.  ENTER USER ID NUMBER
  55.   When you receive the USER ID prompt,
  56. respond by typing in your User ID number
  57. and pressing the <ENTER> key.  For
  58. example:
  59.   User ID: 76003,5  <ENTER>
  60.   6.  ENTER YOUR PASSWORD
  61.   You will be prompted for your
  62. password.  Type it in exactly or you
  63. will receive an error message and be
  64. asked to reenter. Press the <ENTER> key
  65. after typing in your password.  For
  66. example:
  67.   Password:  BOAT*TOUCH  <ENTER>
  68. Notice as you type in your password that
  69. it will not print out on your screen. 
  70. This is a
  71. security feature for your protection.

  74.    Telenet Network
  75.  
  76.   When Telenet is used to access
  77. the CompuServe Service, an
  78. additional communications
  79. surcharge is incurred.  The
  80. rates can be found on page
  81. CIS-4.  Telenet is a
  82. communications network provided
  83. by GTE Telenet and is available
  84. from various locations within
  85. the contiguous United States and
  86. Canada (through DataPac).

  92. the continuous, high-pitched tone.

  104.   3.  PRESS THE <ENTER> KEY TWICE
  105.   Telenet will announce itself and will
  106. display the terminal port address. 
  107. Note:  If you are logging on at half
  108. duplex, press the <ENTER> key, then the
  109. semicolon key (;) and then the <ENTER>
  110. key again.
  111.   4.  ENTER TERMINAL MODEL
  112.   Telenet will cause the prompt TERMINAL
  113. = to be displayed on
  114. your terminal.  Type in the response D1
  115. followed by pressing the <ENTER> key. 
  116. For example:
  117.   TERMINAL = D1  <ENTER>
  118.   5.  ENTER NETWORK ADDRESS
  119.   Telenet will next prompt you with the
  120. @ symbol.  Type in one of the following
  121. codes and press the <ENTER> key.
  122.   C 202202 <ENTER>
  123.   C 614227 <ENTER>
  124. For example:
  125.  @C 202202  <ENTER>
  126.   6.  ENTER USER ID NUMBER
  127.   When you receive the USER ID prompt,
  128. respond by typing in your User ID number
  129. and pressing
  130. the <ENTER> key.  For example:

  132.   7.  ENTER YOUR PASSWORD

  148.   When DataPac is used to access
  149. the CompuServe Service, an

  155. by Bell of Canada through TYMNET
  156. or Telenet within the United
  157. States.  DataPac is accessible
  158. only from locations within Canada.

  176.   3.  ENTER SERVICE REQUEST SIGNAL
  177.   Enter the appropriate service request
  178. signal so DataPac will know what baud
  179. rate you are using.  You do this by
  180. entering one period (.) for 300 baud or
  181. two periods (..) for 1200 baud followed
  182. by pressing the <ENTER> key.  These
  183. periods will NOT print out as you enter
  184. them.
  185. DataPac will display a message on your
  186. screen similar to --DataPac:  9999 9999
  187. -- where the numbers indicate the port
  188. address.  DataPac now awaits your next
  189. entry.
  190.   4.  ENTER CALL REQUEST
  191.   Indicate that you want to connect into
  192. TYMNET or Telenet once your connection
  193. reaches the
  194. United States (where the CompuServe
  195. Service is located). Enter one of the
  196. following request codes and press the
  197. <ENTER> key.  The code will NOT print
  198. out as you enter it.

  207.   5.  RESPOND TO NEXT PROMPT
  208.   If DataPac prompts you with USER NAME,
  209. respond by entering one of the following
  210. user names
  211. followed by pressing the <ENTER> key. 
  212. For example:
  213.      CIS02, CIS03, CIS04, CPS01 For
  214. example, to log in during the daytime
  215. hours you type in:
  216.   PLEASE LOG IN: CPS01  <ENTER> Note: 
  217. If you are using a half duplex terminal,
  218. enter a ^H (by pressing down and holding
  219. the CONTROL key while simultaneously
  220. pressing the H key) - then type the user
  221. name.
  222.   If you did not receive USER NAME, you
  223. will recieve the USER ID prompt. 
  224. Proceed to the next step.
  225.   6.  ENTER USER ID NUMBER
  226.   When you receive the User ID prompt,
  227. respond by typing in your User ID number
  228. and pressing the <ENTER> key.  For
  229. example:
  230.   User ID: 76003,5  <ENTER>
  231.   7.  ENTER YOUR PASSWORD
  232.   You will be prompted for your
  233. password.  Type it in exactly or you
  234. will receive an error message and be
  235. asked to reenter. Press the <ENTER> key
  236. after typing in your password.  For
  237. example:
  238.  Password: BOAT*TOUCH  <ENTER>
  239. Notice as you type in your password that
  240. it will not print out on your screen.

  245.         DATAPAC GATEWAY
  246.  
  247. The log on procedure for DataPac
  248. gateway:
  249.  
  250. 1.  Dial the local DataPac
  251.     access number;  connect the
  252.     telephone to the modem.
  253.  
  254. 2.  An entry must be made to
  255.     allow the DataPac network to
  256.     detect the speed and parity
  257.    of the incoming terminal.
  258.     That entry is called a
  259.     service request signal.
  260.     For 110 baud terminals,
  261.     enter...<cr>
  262.     (period,period,period,
  263.     carriage return)
  264.     For 300 baud terminals,
  265.     enter .<cr>
  266.     (period, carriage return)
  267.     For 1200 baud terminals,
  268.     enter ..<cr>
  269.     (period,period carriage
  270.     return)
  271. 3.  DataPac responds by
  272.     displaying the DataPac
  273.     herald, which includes the
  274.     DataPac dial port address.
  275.     It then waits for you to
  276.     enter the next line.
  277.     If there are problems with
  278.     the above, call Canada Bell.
  279.  ...............................
  280.     If there are problems with
  281.     the following, call
  282.     CompuServe.
  283. 4.  The user now enters the call
  284.     request command.  This tells
  285.     the DataPac network which
  286.     host on the network the use
  287.     will be accessing.  The user
  288.     enters our gateway address
  289.     in the following format:
  290.              P 29400138
  291.     Please note:  This will NOT
  292.     echo on the terminal.
  293. 5.  DataPac responds with the
  294.     message:
  295.     DATAPAC:  call connected
  296. 6.  CompuServe then prompts for
  297.     HOST NAME, and the login
  298.     proceeds as usual.

  301.   When you are ready to log off
  302. the CompuServe Service, enter
  303. the word BYE or OFF at any
  304. prompt and disconnect/hang up
  305. the telephone from your
  306. communications equipment.
  307. Failure to enter BYE or OFF may
  308. result in your connection with
  309. the Service being maintained
  310. (and billed to you) for a period
  311. of time, normally no longer than
  312. 20 minutes, until the Service
  313.
