-
-
- This amazing mod turns Quake into a game of Capture the Flag.
- Once you've selected which team to join (red or blue), you are
- spawned at your "base encampment," where you'll see
- your flag. The goal of the game is to capture the other team's flag,
- return to your base and touch the enemy flag to your flag. You get a
- 15-frag bonus for doing so, and everyone else on your team receives a
- 10-frag bonus. For a complete scoring breakdown, see the CTF page.
-
- What's New: Personal and team stats (impulses 26-30), eight beautiful
- new custom CTF maps, a way to tell who you're looking at (impulse
- 141), a way to choose alternate versions of such popular maps as The
- Necropolis, Kascam (an observe mode in which you automatically trail
- someone), a toggleable status bar, improved runes, and more. Read on
- for details!
-
- Use: Download ctfclien.exe. It's a self-extracting zip file that when
- double-clicked upon will add a "CTFTen" folder to your Quake
- directory. If you want to play the custom CTF maps, and surely you
- do, download the first set of CTF maps (CTF1-8) and the second set
- of CTF maps (CTF2m1-8 and CTFstart). After downloading,
- double-click on them to unzip 'em to your Quake directory.
-
- To create a Capture the Flag game, select "CTFTen" from the
- drop-down list of available mods. When creating a game, you must
- select Deathmath (not Coop, Teamplay 1 or Teamplay 2). To join a
- CTF game, make sure you have the CTFTen folder in your Quake
- directory, then hit the JOIN button.
-
- Picking a Map: Every id level now supports CTF, so use the "Episode"
- and "Level" drop-down lists on the Create menu as you would for any
- other game. To begin your game at one of the custom CTF levels
- (assuming you've downloaded them), pick the "User Levels" selection
- under "Episode," then pick your CTF level from the "Level" drop-down
- list. You can also enter "+map ctf#" in the "Extra Command Line
- Parameters" field. For instance, if you wanted to start your game at
- Gloom Castles, you'd enter "+map ctf2m7".
-
- Here's the whole list of custom CTF maps:
-
- CTF1 - McKinley Base
- CTF2 - The Kiln
- CTF3 - Dysphoria
- CTF4 - The Forgotten Mines
- CTF5 - Da Ancient War Grounds
- CTF6 - Vertigo
- CTF7 - Tale of Two Cities
- CTF8 - The Strongbox
- CTF2m1 - McKinley Station
- CTF2m2 - The WarZone
- CTF2m3 - Spill the Blood
- CTF2m4 - The Ruins of NeoMinonk
- CTF2m5 - Disciple War Grounds
- CTF2m6 - Untitled
- CTF2m7 - Gloom Castles
- CTF2m8 - Capturephobolis
- CTFstart - Introduction (Note: This level cannot be played. Exit
- through the teleporter to vote for which episode is next. After a minute,
- the first level of the episode that received the most votes will spawn.)
-
- With the exception of CTFstart, the next level that spawns after the frag
- or time limit is reached depends upon what you selected at game
- creation. If you chose any id level (all are supported), the next id map
- from that episode will spawn. If you chose a CTF1-8 map, the next
- CTF1-8 map is next (i.e., reach the frag limit in CTF4 and CTF5 will
- spawn next). If you chose a CTF2 map, the next CTF2 map will
- spawn. It's time to play a whole episode!
-
- Teamplay Options: The following teamplay options are automatically
- enabled for CTF on TEN.
-
- Health and Armor Protect: You receive no damage from teammates'
- attacks but suffer damage from your own misfired rockets or grenades
- (teamplay 3).
-
- Color Lock: You can only be on the Red or Blue team. You can
- change teams, however, by using the "color" command. Open the
- console and type "color 4" to be red or "color 13" to be blue.
-
- By entering options in the "Extra Command Line Parameters" field, you
- can have other teamplay settings for your game. The following teamplay
- options are supported:
-
- +teamplay 0 - You and your teammates' health/armor is unprotected.
- There is no frag or death penalty for killing a teammate.
-
- +teamplay 3 - Teammates' health/armor is protected, but yours is not.
- This is the default.
-
- +teamplay 7 - Teammates' health/armor is protected, and shooting
- them results in you receiving the damage they would have received
- (mirror damage).
-
- +teamplay 8 - You and your teammates' health/armor is unprotected,
- and you lose a frag for killing a teammate.
-
- +teamplay 16 - You and your teammates' health/armor is unprotected,
- and you die if you kill a teammate.
-
- +teamplay 24 - You and your teammates' health/armor is unprotected,
- and you die plus lose a frag if you kill a teammate. Aim carefully!
-
- Deathmatch Options and Alternate Maps: New in CTF 4.0 on TEN is
- the ability to select variations of popular levels, such as The Necropolis,
- by entering a different deathmatch setting in the "Extra Command Line
- Parameters" field when creating a game.
-
- The available deathmatch settings for CTF on TEN are:
-
- +deathmatch 1 - Weapons and items (health, armor, ammo) respawn.
- This is the default.
-
- +deathmatch 2 - Items do not respawn. Weapons are available to all,
- but you can only pick up a weapon once per life.
-
- +deathmatch 3 - Items respawn. Weapons do not disappear when
- picked up, but you can only get a weapon type once per life.
-
- +deathmatch 4 - Like deathmatch 1 with different maps.
-
- +deathmatch 5 - Like deathmatch 2 with different maps.
-
- +deathmatch 6 - Like deathmatch 3 with different maps.
-
- The "alter-ego" maps used by deathmatch 4-6, are: The Necropolis
- (e1m3), House of Chthon (e1m7), Ziggurat Vertigo (e1m8), The Ebon
- Fortress (e2m4), The Underearth (e2m7), Satan's Dark Delight
- (e3m4), Wind Tunnels (e3m5), Place of Two Deaths (dm1),
- Claustrophobopolis (dm2), Bad Place (dm4) and The Cistern (dm5).
- Differences can include flag placement, different kinds of armor in
- different places and environment factors (hmmm, that wall wasn't there
- last time).
-
- Temp1 Options: You can control other settings, such as automatic team
- selection, by entering temp1 options at the "Extra Command Line
- Parameters" field when creating a game. The supported options are:
-
- +temp1 0 - You enter the game in observer and can pick your team,
- change teams by using the color command, and keep your team from
- level to level. This is the default.
-
- +temp1 7 - You are automatically placed on a team when you join the
- game, can only switch to an outnumbered team, and the teams are
- balanced between levels.
-
- +temp1 8 - Like temp1 0 but the grappling hook is disabled.
-
- +temp1 15 - Like temp1 7 but the grappling hook is disabled.
-
- Offensive and Defensive Stats: New to CTF on TEN is the ability to
- track your stats, both personal and team. The stats are automatically
- posted at the end of each level (open the Console while the Rankings
- are being shown), and you can enter impulses to get at the stats you
- want.
-
- impulse 26 - Personal stats (from left to right: Kills, Times Killed,
- Suicides, Kills on Teammates (if enabled), Deaths by Teammates (if
- enabled)
-
- impulse 27 - Personal CTF Offense stats (from left to right: Flag
- Pickups, Carrier Protects, Capture Assists, Flag Captures)
-
- impulse 28 - Personal CTF Defense stats (flag and base defenses, flag
- carrier kills, flag recovers)
-
- impulse 29 - Team stats (all categories)
-
- impulse 30 - Personal stats (all categories)
-
- Runes: There are four randomly spawned runes in CTF that grant the
- carrier extra powers. The Earth rune is resistance: You take half as
- much damage as normal, and it now protects armor. The Black rune is
- strength: You do twice as much damage as normal. The Hell or Haste
- rune doubles your rate of fire and now affects the nailguns. The Elder
- rune slowly regenerates your health and armor, both up to 150. You
- can pick up and carry only one rune at a time.
-
- Item and Backpack Drop: You can drop your current weapon or
- backpack. Impulse 20 drops your backpack. If you're holding the
- shotgun when you drop the backpack, it will contain 20 shells. If you're
- holding a nailgun, the backpack will have 20 nails. If you're holding the
- rocket or grenade launcher, the backpack will contain 10 rockets.
- Impulse 21 drops the weapon you are holding (you can't drop the axe
- or single-barrelled shotgun). Note that both weapons and backpacks
- can travel through wind tunnels!
-
- Kascam: This excellent observer mode lets you follow a player of your
- choosing or randomly follow the person with the most health and
- armor. To activate Kascam, hit 3 (impulse 3) when you first enter the
- game (note that doing so makes you ineligible to play). The following
- impulses are used with Kascam:
-
- impulse 200 - Fly-by Mode: The best viewing position is automatically
- selected. If the camera is too close to the player, it will temporarily
- switch to follow mode.
-
- impulse 201 - Follow Mode: You follow along behind the player.
-
- impulse 210 - Toggles on/off the "Now tracking..." messages
-
- impulse 100 + X - Use the Status command at the console to get the
- player numbers, then enter 100 plus the player number to follow that
- person. For instance, if you want to follow MutMut and the Status
- command shows that he's player 9, you'd enter impulse 109.
-
- Impulses and Special Commands: The following impulses and special
- commands are while playing CTF on TEN. Click here for info on
- binding keys.
-
- impulse 10 Cycle Weapon Forward
- impulse 12 Cycle Weapon Backward
- impulse 20 Drop Backpack
- impulse 21 Drop Weapon

- Title : Threewave Capture
- Filename : 3wctf40.zip
- Version : 4.00
- Date : 97-04-15
- Author : Dave 'Zoid' Kirsch
- Email : zoid@threewave.com
-
- Intro
- -----
-
- You must install this package to play on servers using the custom ThreeWave
- flag models and levels for version 4.0. You must also have the file
- 3wctf301.zip (which contains pak1.pak).
-
- Installation Instructions
- -------------------------
-
- READ THESE THOROUGHLY BEFORE INSTALLING
-
- 1. Following the instructions from the 3wctf301.zip file, install and set
- up the pak0.pak file included with it.
-
- 2. Copy the pak1.pak file from this archive into this new directory called
- ctf. DO NOT OVERWRITE YOUR EXISTING PAK1.PAK FILE! For example:
-
- C:\>copy download\pak1.pak c:\quake\ctf
-
- Note: if you have a patch such as the CTF bot, or ShredCo's CTF mods
- installed, you may already have a pak1.pak in your ctf subdirectory. If
- this is so, rename that pak1.pak to pak2.pak so it is not overwritten by
- the pak1.pak that comes with this archive.
-
- 3. When running Quake for Internet play on the Custom ThreeWave Servers, you
- must add a -game option. For example:
-
- q95 -game ctf
-
- Make sure you do not have an existing -game option in your q95.bat file.
- Windows 95 users should double check their shortcuts if you use them.
-
- 4. Connect to a server running ThreeWave CTF in Custom mode
- You can find a list at http://quake.threewave.com/capture.shtml
-
- If you get an error about a model or map not being found, you installed the
- pak incorrectly.
