  22. IconForge, from CursorArts Company, is quite simply the best, most
  23. comprehensive utility available for creating and editing Windows
  24. format cursors, icons, multi-resolution icons, animated
  25. icons/cursors, and bitmap images. Its tools include: brush, line,
  26. curve, polygon, circle, rectangles, flood, color replacement fill,
  27. color eraser, smudge, scatter, rotate, flip, area select, text,
  28. nudge, zoom and more. Transparent and inverse video effect areas
  29. may be easily painted onto images to allow backgrounds to show
  30. through. Works with multiple icons at the same time for easy cut and
  31. paste between images. Special effects filters such as whirlpool,
  32. tile, mosaic and sharpen/unsharpen help to make painting your own
  33. icon-sized pictures a snap, and common animation effects may be
  34. produced automatically! IconForge handles ICO format icons (it will
  35. even read Win 2x and OS/2 ICO formats), Cursors (CUR), animated
  36. Icon/Cursor (ANI), Cursor Library (CUL) and Icon Library (ICL) files.
  37. IconForge imports from and exports to BMP, GIF, PCX, JPG, TIF, and
  38. PNG format bitmap images. Animation formats supported include AVI, FLC,
  39. FLI, and animated GIF. It can also read images from and write to Windows
  40. EXE, DLL, OCX, VBX, DRV and CPL files. Images may be edited in standard
  41. and custom sizes from 8x8 to 72x72 and in resolutions from 2-color up
  42. to 24-bit (16-million) color. Icons and cursors may also be exported
  43. as stand-alone EXE's (complete with Setup and Viewer utilities).

  50. INSTALLING IconForge
  51. ------------------------------

  53. Before you can begin using IconForge you must run the IconForge
  54. Setup program from Windows. In most cases you cannot simply copy
  55. the software onto your hard drive. The files on the CursorArts
  56. distribution disks are stored in a special compressed form to
  57. save space. The Setup program is the only way to insure that
  58. IconForge is properly unpacked and installed. To install
  59. IconForge, follow the steps below:
  60.  
  61. 1.  Start Windows.
  62.  
  63. 2.  If you received IconForge on diskette, place it into
  64.     the floppy drive now. If you downloaded IconForge in
  65.     archived format, use FileWrangler or PKUNZIP to uncompress
  66.     the files to a working directory on your hard disk.
  67.  
  68. 3.  Activate the Start button, File Manager or Explorer.
  69.  
  70. 4.  Select "Run..." from the "Start" menu or File Manager.
  71.  
  72. 5.  In the "Command Line" field enter one of the following:
  73.  
  74.       -  If you placed the IconForge diskette into drive
  75.          A:, type: A:\SETUP
  76.  
  77.       -  If you placed the IconForge diskette into drive
  78.          B:, type: B:\SETUP
  79.  
  80.       -  If you downloaded IconForge, type:
  81.          C:\DIRNAME\SETUP (Remember to replace DIRNAME with the name
  82.          of the directory where you uncompressed the IconForge.)

  84. 6.  Follow the instructions on the screen.
  85.  
  86. 7.  If you decide not to continue to use IconForge, open the Windows
  87.          Control Panel and click on the Add/Remove Programs icon, then
  88.          select IconForge from the list to remove it from your system.
