- 1. INTRODUCTION
- ---------------
-
- Tri CD-ROM Enhancer Package (TCDEP) is a set of utilities designed
- to enhance your CD-ROMs with TriBBS version 10.0 and up. TCDEP
- features:
-
- TCDEP Configuration Module (Easy Setup - NO manual editing of
- configuration files - For extra
- options run CONFIG /?.)
- Tri Offline File Requests (Copies requested files from CD to a
- File Area, leaves a message to the
- user who requested the file, and
- updates the FILES.LST file.)
- Delete Old File Requests (Deletes Old File Requests from your
- hard drive and from the File List.)
- ToggleCD (Toggles CDs Online or Offline in one
- quick sweep.)
- and much much more...
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------
- 2. FULL DESCRIPTION
- -------------------
-
- Now we will take a look at each utility and the functions they
- accomplish in detail.
-
-
- Tri CD-ROM Enhancer Package Configuration Module (CONFIG.EXE)
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- This is the setup program which creates 2 files. It creates a
- TCDEP.DAT file which is your main configuration file and it creates a
- CDROM.DAT which holds all of the CD-ROM information for up to 300 CDs
- (4 CDs for the Unregistered Version). For extra help in quickly
- setting up File Areas, run CONFIG /?.
-
-
- Tri Offline File Requests (TOFR.EXE)
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- This program copies the requested files from the CD-ROM to the File
- Area on the Hard Drive and leaves a message to the user who requested
- the file. The message conference is definable in CONFIG.EXE if TCDEP
- is registered. TOFR starts by copying the REQUEST.TXT from your MWORK
- directory to the directory that TOFR.EXE is in. If a file is not
- found, you may want to look at the REQUEST.TXT. If TOFR finds a
- requested file that is already online (a file that has already been
- requested), it will alert you of this and insert the message. The
- file date in the FILES.LST is also updated so DELOFR will not delete
- the file before the new person who requested the file gets a chance to
- download the file. TOFR will also add to the TCDEP.LOG file when a
- file is not found.
-
-
- Delete Old File Requests (DELOFR.EXE)
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- WARNING: Delete Old File Requests WILL delete all files that are
- considered old in the specific file area. For this reason, it is
- recommended that you set up a different File Area just for Offline
- Requests.
-
- This program deletes old file requests from your hard drive and from
- your file list. This program is very handy for keeping your Offline
- File Requests File Directory clean and up to date. You specify how many
- days to keep the requested files online in CONFIG.EXE and when that
- amount of days is up, DELOFR removes them! (Note: The Unregistered
- version is set up to delete files that are 60 days old or older. Once
- you register, you can change the amount of days to keep files!) This
- program does NOT require any key presses so it may be run as an event.
- If DELOFR runs too quick for you, you may specify a delay value on the
- command line. For example, to have DELOFR delay 1 second between each
- file, run DELOFR as follows: DELOFR 1000. For each 1000 you specify,
- DELOFR will pause for 1 second. The default delay value for DELOFR is
- 50. If you want DELOFR to run at full speed, run DELOFR as follows:
- DELOFR 0. DELOFR supports the Log File Option in CONFIG.EXE and will
- add to the log TCDEP.LOG file how many files were found, saved, and
- removed.
-
-
- ToggleCD (TOGGLECD.EXE)
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- This program will allow you to toggle all CD-ROM file areas for the
- specified CD-ROM online or offline in one quick sweep. ToggleCD is
- very handy for the sysop who likes to change their online CD-ROMs
- often. This program supports the Log File Option in CONFIG.EXE and
- will add to the TCDEP.LOG when you toggle a CD-ROM online or offline.
-
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------
- 3. COPYRIGHT/WARRANTY/AGREEMENT
- -------------------------------
-
- TCDEP is copyrighted software which is distributed under the
- shareware concept. Under this license agreement you are granted the
- right to use TCDEP on all machines and environments that it supports
- for a 30-Day trial period without registering. If you decide to keep
- this software and/or use this software after the trial period, you
- must register or you will be in violation of United States and
- International copyright laws.
-
- As a Shareware Program, TCDEP may be freely distributed through
- Bulletin Board Systems, computer networks, on floppy disks, and on CDs
- or other magnetic media. Never give a copy of the TCDEP.KEY file to
- anyone as this is a violation of the United States and International
- copyright laws. You may pass copies of the Unregistered version to
- others as long as it is not for payment or bundled with anything else
- that is for payment, and you distribute all original files without any
- changes. This includes the Configuration files. All file dates
- should to set to one date and the file times should be set to the
- version number of the program if it is directly from me. A small fee
- may be charged for the media TCDEP is distributed on.
-
- TCDEP, and all related materials, is distributed without warranty.
- In no event will we be liable to you for damages, including any loss
- of profits, lost savings, or other incidental or consequential damages
- arising out of your use of or inability to use the program, even if we
- have been advised of the possibility of such damages. We will not be
- liable for any such claim by any other party.
-
- It is a violation of the TCDEP agreement to modify the EXE files in
- any way or create a utility that will Register TCDEP or create a
- utility that will edit any TCDEP configuration files.
-
- You acknowledge that you have read this agreement, that you
- understand this agreement, and understand that by continuing the
- installation of the software, by loading or running the software, or
- by placing or copying the software onto your computer hard drive or
- memory, you agree to be bound by this agreement's terms and
- conditions.
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------
- 4. SETUP
- --------
-
- Setting all CD-ROM File Areas up to use the MASTER Index (And the
- MASTER Index ONLY!) is a good recommendation. Even though I have
- taken every precaution to make TCDEP work correctly, it is a good
- idea to make a backup of your MWORK directory. It is also recommended
- that you make a backup of your MWORK directory before installing *ANY*
- new TriBBS utility.
-
- Read SETUP.TXT for step-by-step instructions on setting up TCDEP.
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------
- 5. TROUBLESHOOTING
- ------------------
-
- 1. I receive an "File Error" message when running one of the programs.
-
- Be sure that the TCDEP.DAT and CDROM.DAT files exist. If they do
- not, run CONFIG.EXE to create these files. If they do exist, you
- probably have set a incorrect path or filename in the Main setup of
- CONFIG.EXE. Run CONFIG.EXE and be sure that all filenames and
- paths are set correctly and then check to see if they exist on your
- hard drive.
-
- 2. TOFR.EXE will copy the files from the first few offline CD-ROMs that
- I have but it totally ignores the last few CD-ROMs.
-
- You have not set up all of your CD-ROMs. Run CONFIG.EXE and set
- up all of your CD-ROMs. You may also wish to review Step #1 in
- SETUP.TXT. Remember that if your TriBBS setup says the Offline
- CD Number is 3, CONFIG.EXE must also say Offline CD Number 3!
- The Offline CD Numbers must match in your TriBBS setup and in your
- TCDEP setup!
-
- 3. TOFR.EXE locks up!
-
- TOFR.EXE has been fully tested on 3 computers : a 386/25, a 386/40,
- and a 486/50. TOFR.EXE has also been tested on 2 totally separate
- TriBBS setups! The problem that you are most likely having is that
- your CD-ROM Drive is having trouble reading a CD. Pay special
- attention to the "window" on the TOFR screen, and see exactly what
- was going on when it locks up! If it says "Searching CD-ROM...",
- then your CD-ROM drive is having trouble reading your CD. Do you
- normally have this problem? If so, the only recommendation I can
- give you is to fully clean each CD and clean the heads and tray on
- the CD-ROM drive.
-
- Remember that some CD-ROM Drives are especially slow! It may take
- 30 seconds or more just to find the file to copy on some CD-ROM
- Drives. Give it time, even if you know your CD-ROM Drive is just
- sitting there doing nothing - Like Mine Does... :)
-
- If this is not the problem, pay special attention to the "window"
- on the TOFR screen, and see exactly what its doing when it locks
- up! This "window" shows you what TOFR is currently doing, such as
- copying a file or inserting a message and so on. Please notify me
- of what was going on when TOFR locked up.
-
- 4. DELOFR says that the FILES.LST is not found!
-
- Your FILES.LST that you specify in CONFIG.EXE for the offline
- file area has probably not been created yet. This problem will be
- taken care of when you run TOFR to copy files from the CD-ROM to
- the Hard Drive and it will create a FILES.LST file.
-
- 5. When I run TOFR, it just keeps on saying File Not Found.
-
- Be sure that you have the correct CD-ROM in the drive.
-
- 6. I have a problem that I cannot figure out, even after I read this
- document. What should I do?
-
- Read the "Support" section in this document for more information on
- contacting me.
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------
- 6. REGISTRATION AND BENEFITS OF REGISTRATION
- --------------------------------------------
-
- The Unregistered version of TCDEP functions exactly like the
- Registered version except for a few "Reminders" and Delete Old File
- Requests is set up to delete files after 60 days (once you register
- you may change the amount of days). TCDEP is also limited to 4 CD-ROMs
- until Registered. TCDEP also leaves 3 lines of a Unregistered Message
- in each Message left to each user. After you register, these 3 lines
- will no longer be added onto the messages that TOFR.EXE creates. TCDEP
- has a few extra options that Registered users have access to and
- Unregistered users to not. The file descriptions say "TCDEP
- Unregistered TCDEP" when TCDEP is unregistered. The registered version
- file descriptions say "TCDEP Registered To: (Your Name)".
-
- When you order the registered version of TCDEP, all included
- utilities that come with TCDEP will run in registered mode!
-
- TCDEP is copyrighted software which is distributed under the
- shareware concept. Under this license agreement you are granted the
- right to use TCDEP on all machines and environments that supports it
- for a 30-Day trial period without registering. If you decide to keep
- this software and/or use this software after a reasonable trial period,
- you must register.
-
- Please print REGISTER.TXT, fill it out, and send it along with
- $10.00 + $2.00 Shipping & Handling (Check or Money Order Payable to
- Michael Kinser) to:
-
- Games Unlimited Software
- P.O. Box 804
- Norton, VA 24273
-
- If you do not have a printer, you may write all of the information
- down from REGISTER.TXT and fill it out.
- Once you register, you will be registered for all future versions.
- All upgrades will be free. It will be up to you to download the
- upgrades.
- Once you register, I will send you a "KEY" file. Just copy this
- file into the same directory where the TCDEP files reside, and the
- next time the programs are run, they will say Registered. DO NOT GIVE
- ANYONE A COPY OF YOUR KEY FILE. This will be your registered "KEY"
- only with YOUR name inside of it! TCDEP "KEY" files may NOT be
- transferred, for example - if your BBS closes down, you may not give
- someone the "KEY" file.
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------
- 7. POSSIBLE FUTURE ENHANCEMENTS
- -------------------------------
-
- I cannot be certain of any of the following. Some, none, or all of
- these enhancements may be added to TCDEP. It all depends on how much
- people use TCDEP, registration of TCDEP, and user feedback!
-
- 1. Some of the comments used on the registration form and other user
- feedback may be added.
-
- 2. Possibly customized messages left to the user and only 1 message
- to each user each time TOFR is run, even if the user requested
- 25 or more files.
-
- 3. CD-ROM identification may be added. TOFR would recognize when
- you have inserted the wrong CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------------
