  146. other viruses, the macro virus remover will not work.
  147. If you encounter this, remove the other virus first or
  148. work in a separate area.

  155. Data file updates are stored in a compressed format
  156. to reduce transmission time. To install your update,
  157. create a temporary directory and copy the downloaded
  158. file to the directory. Unzip the files, and copy them
  159. to the appropriate permanent directories, replacing
  160. your existing files.

  163. * TESTING YOUR INSTALLATION *

  165. The Eicar Standard AntiVirus Test File is a combined
  166. effort by anti-virus vendors throughout the world to
  167. come up with one standard by which customers can
  168. verify their anti-virus installations. To test your
  169. installation, copy the following line into its own file
  170. and name it EICAR.COM.
  171.

  174. When done, you will have a 69- or 70-byte file.
  175.  
  176. When VirusScan is applied to this file, Scan will report
  177. finding the EICAR-STANDARD-AV-TEST-FILE virus.
  178.  
  179. It is important to know that THIS IS NOT A VIRUS.
  180. However, users often have the need to test that their
  181. installations function correctly. The anti-virus
  182. industry, through the European Institute for Computer
  183. Antivirus Research, has adopted this standard to
  184. facilitate this need.

  186. Please delete the file when installation testing is
  187. completed so unsuspecting users are not unnecessarily
  188. alarmed.
