  3. SCARYFISH is an exciting, realistic, multi-species fishing game for 1-4

  15. To run the game, type 'SCARY23'.

  17. The main documentation file is SCARY2.DOC.  You can read it online from
  18. the game's main menu ("Instructions").  Depending upon where you got the 
  19. game, there might also be a help file with installation/startup 
  20. instructions.

  22. SCARYFISH 2.31 requires an 80286 or better processor, at least 512K RAM, 
  23. and VGA graphics.  Older versions of the game work with any IBM-compatible
  24. processor and any display (VGA, EGA, CGA, Hercules, text).

  26. To print out the order form (a regular text file), type "COPY ORDER.FRM PRN"
  27. from the DOS prompt, or load into any word processor / text editor with an
  28. option to print files.
  29.  
  30. REGISTERED USERS who have the 1st edition of the printed manual: 
  31. The example for entering character names is obsolete for Versions 2.04 and 
  32. later.  You now enter character names from a menu.
  33. When creating a new character, the first 8 letters/digits _can_ contain
  34. spaces; ignore the Page 3 note that they can't.
  35. References to CGA, EGA, and Hercules graphics apply to older versions;
  36. 2.3 just uses VGA.
  37. The "Add User-Created World" option is no longer needed since the game
  38. automatically identifies all user worlds in the directory.
  39. The Internet addresses in the printed manual are obsolete.

  41. The last 11 species (from Ocean Panfish down in the right column) do not
  42. exist at any of the original 8 worlds.  To catch them, order the Sequel
  43. Worlds and/or the Make Your Own Worlds Utility, or find one of many
  44. freely-distributable user worlds.

  46. You can load a character from another disk or directory; to do this select
  47. *From Different Path* from the "select player" menu.  When saving a 
  48. transcript file, just press <Enter> for the same directory or give the
  49. appropriate path such as A:\ or C:\TEMP\ (don't forget the backslash).

  51. ScaryFish can be run from Windows as you would any DOS application.
  52. ScaryFish works on PowerMacs with Softwindows, but without sound (?)

  84. This game is marketed as shareware.  It is copyrighted by the author, but 
  85. you can make copies of / distribute it as long as you don't charge anything 
  86. (aside from the cost of copying it), and all the freely-distributable files 
  87. are distributed together unmodified.  The file list is:

  100. To make a copy for a friend, move to the directory with the game and
  101. copy the files from the above list to the destination disk.

  103. If you received the game in a one file archive/compressed/zipped format, 
  104. that is the preferred way to distribute it.  Do NOT copy or distribute any 
  105. part of the registered version or its materials; such activity violates 
  106. copyright laws.  Don't distribute any .C2 files except to machines where 
  107. you'd be the only one using those files.

  109. DISCLAIMER: The author of this software will not be liable for any damages
  110. or losses caused by its use, including but not limited to direct, indirect, 
  111. special, consequential, incidental, or other losses or damages.  This 
  112. includes such situations as damage to computer equipment from falling off 
  113. desks in the excitement of the game.  The game is extremely realistic, but 
  114. don't blame me if you buy a tackle item similar to one in the game and it 
  115. doesn't work as well in real life as in the game.  The worlds represent 
  116. ideal fishing conditions, so don't blame me if the equivalent real life 
  117. fishing areas don't provide action as good as the game's.

  121. Hopefully you will not experience any problems with this game.  However,
  122. if you do, read the documentation (this file and SCARY2.DOC; if you're
  123. registered, the hardcopy manual).  The problem might be addressed there.

  128. Bugs:
  129. The game is free from angler-annoying bugs such as mosquitoes, blackflies,
  130. ticks, deerflies, etc.  You can use several "bugs" for bait/lure (cricket,
  131. popper).  In terms of computer bugs (errors), the ones from previous
  132. versions seem gone.  A few graphics imperfections exist: huge rainbows
  133. sometimes look a little weird, and when you have your line in the water, 
  134. the water color might occasionally spread a bit outside the water's usual 
  135. "window"; if this bothers you, recast to refresh the screen.

  137. It is possible for a memory error (203) to occur when you try to start a
  138. session.  If this happens, try to free memory by removing TSRs, loading 
  139. DOS high, etc.  If you keep getting memory errors, run ScaryFish 2.2 
  140. instead (requires about 100K less, usual filename is scary22.zip).  Some
  141. .UW2 worlds with many user-created terrain graphics may be memory hogs,
  142. but worlds with the original terrains should work on any machine with the
  143. aforementioned system requirements.

  147. If what you order includes a diskette and it's unreadable, return within
  148. 30 days with an explanation that the disk is bad, and PMP Software will send 
  149. a replacement.  Otherwise, shareware lets you "try before you buy", so there 
  150. shouldn't be any other reason for returns/refunds.  If the game doesn't run 
  151. on your machine, let me know (see paragraph on support).  If you ordered the 
  152. game directly (preregistered) from PMP Software and it's impossible for it 
  153. to work on your machine, a refund can be offered in that special case.
