- SU-27 FLANKER V1.05 READ ME FILE 03/17/96 CCN
- (c) 1996 Strategic Simulations, Inc. A Mindscape Company.
-
-
- This interim upgrade is provided to upgrade your current version of Su-27 Flanker to V1.05.
- Please note that while all the files provided by this upgrade will indeed bring you to
- Version 1.05, the "About Flanker" pull-down menu selection will still have V1.04 listed.
- The difference between Version 1.04 and Version 1.05 is the addition of a new SHPLIB.LBB
- file dated 03-12-96 at 9:23a.
-
- This self-extracting archive will place all of the new files into their correct
- directories provided that you run the PATCH.BAT file from the Su-27 Flanker
- home directory with the PATCH105.EXE file also located in the directory.
-
-
- To install:
-
- 1) Copy the PATCH.BAT and PATCH105.EXE files to your Su-27 Flanker home directory
-
- 2) Run the PATCH.BAT file.
-
- 3) Do not run the PATCH105.EXE file by itself or the files will not recurse to their
- proper directory locations.
-
- 4. ****IMPORTANT**** Delete your SU27.INI file from the Su-27 Flanker home directory.
- A new SU27.INI file will be created after you set your new options in the game.
-
- 5. Run Su-27 Flanker and set your options and preferences from the FILE pull-down menu
- of the Mission Editor.
-
-
- File Locations
-
- The Su-27 home directory i.e. C:\PROGRAM FILES\SU-27 FLANKER is where a majority
- of the files need to be replaced for this patch to work properly. Here is a
- directory inventory of the files contained in the V1.05 patch:

- NEW FEATURES AND BUG FIXES
-
- MISSION EDITOR
-
- 1. Preferences: the OK button now saves all the pages not only the current
- one.
-
- 2. Check the Rearview Mirrors tick box in the Details page to enable the
- mirrors (no mirrors by default). Note that using the mirrors may slow down the operation of
- the program a little bit.
-
- 3. The Other page in the Preferences property sheet allows you to
- enable/disable the autoswitching to resolution 640x480x256 when running the simulation module.
-
- 4. The Debriefing feature now works properly.
-
- 5. MiG-31 Foxhound aircraft are now available. You will now be able to place them as ground
- objects and dog fight etc. against them, and "may the lord have mercy upon you soul!" They are
- very, very lethal! They are modelled correctly and have the two new types of missiles carried
- only by this type of aircraft. Enjoy!
-
-
- FLIGHT MODULE
-
- 1. You can padlock to ground targets by using '*' on the keypad. To
- accomplish this, superimpose the targeting marker on the HUD with
- the desired target. Padlocking to ground targets is applicable
- only to unguided rockets, cannon, and unguided bombs. The onboard
- computer remembers the position of the padlocked target within 1.5-2
- minutes, which is generally enough to pass by, make a turn and attack
- the target.
-
- 2. The pilot's field of view has been increased to 240 degrees (4 to 8
- o'clock).
-
- 3. You cannot be hit any more by AAMs or SAMs without prior warning of your
- aircraft being painted when flying in formation.
-
- 4. Use RIGHT SHIFT with the function keys (F2, ... F8) to cycle through
- friendly objects (a/c, SAM sites, ships, weapons), and LEFT SHIFT for
- enemy objects. You can also use combinations such as LSHIFT+CTRL+Fn and
- RSHIFT+CTRL+Fn to cycle through in reverse order.
-
- 5. You can use the target selection key/button (Tilde) in close air combat
- (CAC, Helmet, FI0, LMA mode) to cycle through and padlock to visible
- aircraft, if any.
-
- 6. Radar detection range now depends on the target aspect angle.
-
- 7. GAI aircraft can spot targets visually if the threat is within 10 km
- range. To let them see beyond 10 km, place an EWR station nearby.
-
- 8. Min detection range for both EWR stations is 10 km.
-
- 9. Dogfight view (F9). You can watch any two aircraft dogfighting. To do
- this, select the first aircraft in either the Outside (F2) or Outside+
- (F5) View then use the F9 key to cycle through the other aircraft which
- fall within 10 km range from the first aircraft. In this view you can
- only zoom in and out with the keypad keys Grey_* and Grey_/. To cancel
- the Dogfight view, hit any function key (F1,.. F8). You can also use
- RIGHT SHIFT + F9 to cycle through friendly aircraft and LEFT SHIFT + F9
- to cycle through enemy aircraft.
-
- 10. The CCIP pipper no longer jumps when dive bombing.
-
- 11. Unguided rockets now can be deployed in mountaneous areas more
- effectively (no more multiple passes except the first one, which is
- obligatory).
-
- 12. AI aircraft use their guns more effectively.
-
- 13. Momentary Cockpit View. You can use the '0' key on the keypad (KP_0)
- to quickly jump into the cockipt from ANY external view to see the
- instruments and then automatically return to the initial view. While
- holding the KP_0 key down you can use the head movement keys on the
- keypad as usual.
-
- 14. Requestor boxes now show up in proper resolution.
-
- 15. Missiles don't "pass through" and explode behind objects any more.
- (Kh-35 and Kh-31, in particular)
-
- 16. With the keypad keys, use CTRL rather than SHIFT to increase the
- rotation speed 4 times in external views.
-
- 17. Rearview Mirrors (see #2 above under MISSION EDITOR). The following additional files are
- required in Flanker's home directory:
-
- SW05.IMG
- SW06.IMG
- SW07.IMG
-
- 18. No more problems with deploying flaps, gear, CapsLock, etc. Please, find attached the
- "correct" files for the Thrustmaster WCSII and F-16 FLCS joystick SU27WCS2.ADV, SU27WCS2.MDF,
- and SU27FLCS.B50. SU27TQS2.B50 has been revised to fix an error from the original file that
- was on the CD. A third FLCS/TQS configuration is also provided as SU27TQS3.B50. Use them as
- examples to adjust your own joystick configuration files.
-
- Note that some commands (Tab, CapsLock, W, and others) in these files require specifying a code
- when depressing the corresponding key and when releasing it. Such commands should generate the
- Right Shift code prior to the required action itself. For example:
-
- BTN 3 /P /N RSFT ToggleLock /R /N ToggleLock
-
- Here, when you push the Lock-On button it generates Right Shift (RSFT) then the command itself (TAB).
- Upon release, this button generates only the TAB code.
-
- 19. New key: 0 = BackSpace = CapsLock
-
- 20. The ECM light and functions correctly now.
-
- AND FINALLY
-
- Thanks for your time and please enjoy the new features included in this free patch.
-
- Special thanks to Marek Paul and Mike Joseph for all their hard work in getting the files out to
- our Beta test sites. Also a personal thanks to all of my Beta testers who provided me with valuable
- information throughout the test cycle. I'm sorry we couldn't reply personally to all your replies but they
- were all read and used.
-
- We are currently working on V1.1 Windows 95 and the DOS version which will have some really cool new features.
-
- For and on behalf of the Mindscape, SSI and Eagle Dynamics SU-27 Flanker R&D teams, thanks for your interest
- and support of this product.
