-
- 4. Starting Fischer's Erotic Encyclopedia
- To start Fischer's Erotic Encyclopedia from the Program Manager,
- double-click on the Fischer's Erotic Encyclopedia icon in the Fischer's
- Erotic Encyclopedia program group.
-
- 5. Recommendations for Running Fischer's Erotic Encyclopedia
-
- We recommend that you do not run any other program in the
- background while playing Fischer's Erotic Encyclopedia. This will
- allow the program to run with the maximum amount of memory
- available on your system. We also recommend that you do not run
- virus protection software or screen savers when using this program.
-
- If your computer is on a network, you should shut down any
- networking applications such as mail readers, FTP, daemons, etc. It
- is also a good idea to log off the network; to do that, enter the
- Network group in the Program Manager and double-click on the Log
- On/Off icon.
-
- 6. Hardware Incompatibilities
-
- The Fischer's Erotic Encyclopedia program has been designed to work
- with the hardware components of a wide variety of computer
- systems. In some cases, however, certain hardware components may
- not be compatible with the Fischer's Erotic Encyclopedia program.
-
- The Fischer's Erotic Encyclopedia program requires that hardware
- components be capable of running projectors (i.e., executable files)
- created by Macromedia Director¬ and displaying QuickTime movies.
- In the Quck Time window there is a README icon which outlines all
- the information about QuickTime 2.1.
-
- If you have a video card or sound card that is not compatible with
- Macromedia projector files or QuickTime 2.1, your system may not
- be able to run the Fischer's Erotic Encyclopedia program. If you are
- experiencing problems running the Fischer's Erotic Encyclopedia
- program, please check the QuickTime README file. We also
- recommend that you check the following sections of the Readme
- document you are currently reading for possible solutions. In many
- cases, a simple change to your system configuration will make it
- possible to run the Fischer's Erotic Encyclopedia program.
-
- 7. Video Card Problems
-
- If you encounter video problems when using Fischer's Erotic
- Encyclopedia , we recommend that you try the following possible
- fixes.
-
- Change the QTW.INI file settings.
-
- The QuickTime for Windows initialization file, QTW.INI, will be found
- in your Windows directory. This file controls the way the QuickTime
- movies are played. In some situations, altering the Optimize line in
- the [Video] section of QTW.INI will fix video problems. (If you do not
- have video problems, you should not change the Optimize line
- because the performance will degrade). You can use the Notepad
- editor to make changes to the QTW.INI file.
-
- The normal setting for the Optimize setting is
-
- [Video]
- Optimize=Hardware
-
- Changing this section to
-
- [Video]
- Optimize=Driver
-
- will fix "false positive" bugs where QuickTime for Windows thinks it
- knows what video chipset is present, but is in fact wrong.
-
-
- If you still have problems, you can try changing to
-
- [Video] or to [Video]
- Optimize=BMP Optimize=DIB
-
- These settings will work in most cases but the performance will
- suffer considerably.
-
- Obtain New Windows Display Drivers
-
- If you are experiencing video display problems, it is often a good
- idea to check with your video card vendor to see if more recent
- versions of the Windows display drivers are available. Many
- vendors are continually improving their display drivers to address
- compatibility problems.
-
- The DRIVERS directory on the Fischer's Erotic Encyclopedia CD-ROM
- disc contains a recent set of video display drivers for Cirrus Logic
- video adapters. If your system has Cirrus Logic video hardware and
- you are using an older display driver, you should check the
- \DRIVERS\CIRRUS directory for updated drivers. Cirrus Logic
- drivers are provided for the following video systems:
- CL-GD543X systems
- CL-GD5422
- CL-GD5424
- CL-GD5426
- CL-GD5428
-
- These drivers are recommended for use with Fischer's Erotic
- Encyclopedia; they are provided with an install program and, in some
- cases, a README file.
-
- Change the Windows Video Display Driver
-
- If you have additional Windows video display drivers available,
- changing to another display driver may fix video-related problems.
- To change a Windows display driver use the Windows Setup program
- (found in the Main group of the Program Manager), or use the utility
- supplied by the video hardware manufacturer, or see Windows
- documentation.
-
- Change the Color Display Mode
-
- On some video cards, you can change the number of display colors.
- Changing from 8-bit color display (i.e., 256 colors) to 16-bit (i.e.,
- 32,768 colors) or 24-bit (i.e., 16.7 million colors) color display will
- allow you to run the Fischer's Erotic Encyclopedia program in some
- cases.
-
- The method for changing the color display mode varies according to
- the type of video card. Use the procedure supplied by the
- manufacturer, or see Windows documentation.
-
- 8. Sound Playback Problems
-
- If you do not hear sound when running the Fischer's Erotic
- Encyclopedia program, we recommend that you follow the steps
- outlined in this section. In general, if you can hear waveform sound
- playback from other Windows programs you should hear sound in
- Fischer's Erotic Encyclopedia.
-
- If you do not hear sound:
-
-
- 1. Make sure that your sound card is properly installed and that
- your speakers are connected. If your speaker(s) has a power switch
- make sure that it is turned on. You should also adjust the volume
- adjustment knob on your speakers and/or on the external faceplate
- of your sound card.
-
- 2. Make sure that the sound card software has been properly
- installed and that Windows sound drivers were installed.
-
- 3. If your sound card uses a sound "volume level" or mixer program,
- you should use this program to adjust the sound volume level in
- Windows. For instance, SoundBlaster sound cards come with the
- Creative Mixer program; this program is usually located in the
- SoundBlaster group in the Program Manager.
-
- 4. You can check the sound playback from the Sound control panel.
- To check sound playback, run the Windows Control Panel program in
- the Main group of the Program Manager. Click on the Sound icon to
- display the Sound dialog box. Click on one of the ".wav" files in the
- Files list box (e.g., chimes.wav) and press the Test button. If you do
- not hear any sound, your Windows sound system has not been
- properly set up.
-
- 5. Make sure that no other programs are running when you run
- Fischer's Erotic Encyclopedia.
-
- 6. In the Fischer's Erotic Encyclopedia program, adjust the sound
- level using the slider on the Information ("i") page.
-
- If you follow these steps, you should be able to hear sound while
- running Fischer's Erotic Encyclopedia.
-
- 9. QuickTime for Windows Installation
-
- The Fischer's Erotic Encyclopedia program requires that you have
- QuickTime for Windows 2.1 installed on your computer system. If
- you do not have QuickTime for Windows 2.1 already installed on
- your computer, use the Install program to set up QuickTime for
- Windows.
-
- If you have an earlier version of QuickTime for Windows running on
- your computer, you should upgrade to QuickTime for Windows 2.1
- using the Install program.
-
- When installing QuickTime for Windows, you must select Local, and
- ignore both Client and Server on the Installation Options dialog box.
- Press the Continue button to continue the QuickTime for Windows
- installation.
-
- During installation, if the setup program asks you to remove
- QuickTime files on your CD, just select Skip.
-
-
