The jingling-balls sex toys, the "rinno-tama," were introduced to Japan by the Dutch in the 17th century.
The balls were paired, one gold and hollow, the other silver and solid. Tiny blades were fitted inside the hollow ball which produced a musical chime with the movement of the ball. Placed in the woman's vagina, the balls created a pleasurable sensation as the woman moved - a sensation enhanced by the vibrating blades in the hollow ball.
