Jean Cocteau's openly homoerotic book entitled "Le Livre Blanc," ("The White Book"), was originally distributed in manuscript to close acquaintances only, in 1918. Twenty-one copies of the book were published in 1928 - for select distribution. At the time, Cocteau, French writer and illustrator, felt that the time was not right to publish his graphically illustrated book for a wider audience. Twenty years after his death, in 1983, "The White Book" was finally published.
