Sodomy and homosexuality have been with us since time immemorial, but were prohibited in the law set forth through Moses: "Thou shall not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is an abomination" (Leviticus 18.22).
Male prostitution was, of course, also forbidden among the ancient Hebrews. The King James Version of the Biblical injunction forbids sodomy: "There shall be no...sodomite of the sons of Israel" (Deuteronomy 23.17). A more recent translation, the New Revised Standard Version, actually points to male prostitution: "none of the sons of Israel shall be a temple prostitute." Nonetheless, male prostitution did exist and the temple priests functioned as pimps.
