To honor the Emperor Heliogabalus, a grand "phallophory" - in which a huge phallus was paraded through town - was held. A ten-ton phallus was transported through Turkey, Macedonia, Greece, the Balkans, and present-day Austria.
300 oxen spurred on by chained packs of hyenas hauled the magnificent item. For the actual entry into Rome, Heliogabalus placed 300 virgins, naked from the waist up, at the head of the procession.
