In the Japanese myth of the descent to the underworld, two tender lovers became bitter enemies. When the goddess Izanami and the god Izanagi divorced, Izanami vowed to kill 1000 people a day, and Izanagi vowed to cause 1500 women to give birth.
So, each day following their divorce, 1000 people died and 1500 people were born. Thus the place of death gave birth to the evil passions of hatred, desire for revenge, and jealousy. By this myth we understand the intimate connection between life and death.
