After sliding down the huge phallus with which they had penetrated the world, Izanagi and Izanami circled the spear, then remarked one to the other: "our bodies are alike, except for the place of my femaleness"; "and my body, the place of my maleness, grows in a particular way. Let us unite our differences."
So they came together, and gave birth to lands and creatures.
