  11. The Help system is incomplete and partly outdated.

  13. The file "history.txt" is the most important file to look at,
  14. especially if you are upgrading from a previous version.
  15. New users can also find this file helpful, as it contains
  16. detailed information about *all* KeyNote features added since
  17. the program was first released.
  18.  
  19. The file "bugs.txt" contains a list of known bugs and limitations
  20. of the program. Windows NT and Windows 2000/ME users: you MUST
  21. read this file!
  22.  
  23. "sample.knt" - this file is opened automatically when you
  24. start KeyNote for the first time. It contains many tips,
  25. features, keyboard shortcuts, and showcases some of KeyNote's
  26. capabilities. DO NOT USE THIS FILE FOR PERSONAL NOTES! It will
  27. be overwritten when you upgrade Keynote to a new version.

  30. "\DOC" subdirectory, below the directory where you
  31. installed KeyNote. Please browse through these files
  32. before you send a bug report or a support question.

  43. to keep up with the latest news about KeyNote and other
  44. freeware programs I wrote. One is an announcement-only
  45. list (note more than 2 messages a month; information

  56. IMPORTANT FOR USERS UPGRADING VERSION EARLIER THAN 0.90
  57.  
  58. As of version 0.90, KeyNote supports two major new features:
  59. encrypting the KeyNote files and creating Tree-type notes.
  60. These features are incompatible with any previous release
  61. of KeyNote. Therefore, encrypted files or files which contain
  62. Tree-type notes cannot be opened using any version of KeyNote
  63. earlier than 0.90. However, any file that does NOT use these
  64. features will be automatically saved in a format that is
  65. compatible with earlier releases of KeyNote.

  69. IMPORTANT FOR USERS UPGRADING VERSION EARLIER THAN 0.85
  70.  
  71. If you have used a version of KeyNote earlier than 0.85,
  72. please note that the format of the .KNT file has been
  73. sightly modified. The new format allows files to be opened
  74. faster. This version of KeyNote can open old-format files
  75. created in previous versions of KeyNote, so you will NOT
  76. lose any of your data. However, older versions of KeyNote
  77. CANNOT read the new file format.

  79. If you want KeyNote to keep saving your files using the old
  80. format (to be compatible with previous versions), you can
  81. start KeyNote with the
  82.     /oldfmt
  83. command-line switch, or change the line in "keynote.ini" file:
  84.     UseOldFileFormat=0
  85. to
  86.     UseOldFileFormat=1
  87. (KeyNote must not be running while you are editing the INI file.)
