  27. new-site-every-18-seconds growth; even huge teams of reviewers can't possibly keep pace 
  28. with the deluge of new and updated material.

  30. Only WebChaperone's content-recognition technology can cope with this explosion of 
  31. unknown Web material. Its patent-pending iCRT technology checks every page, detecting 
  32. pornographic content before your child sees it -- in a fraction of a second, 
  33. without slowing down browsing.

  36. Things You May Notice With WebChaperone

  39. *    Browsers normally start displaying Web pages a piece at a time, as each part of 
  40.     text, frame or graphic arrives. WebChaperone achieves its tremendous accuracy and 
  41.     security by completely checking the components of a page before passing them through 
  42.     -- all at once -- to your browser for display. 
  43.  
  44.     Because of this, you may notice what seems at first sight to be slower page loading 
  45.     after installing WebChaperone, because the page doesn't start drawing right away, but 
  46.     after a short pause, is suddenly drawn all at once. In fact, the total time for the 
  47.     complete page to be displayed is essentially identical, with or without WebChaperone 
  48.     installed.

  50. *    WebChaperone's iCRT technology actually checks pages in less than quarter of a second 
  51.     even on slower PCs. The page-scanning animation you see in the task bar takes much 
  52.     longer than the actual scanning process does -- that's so you have time to see it! 
  53.     The animation lets you know that WebChaperone is doing its job, actively protecting 
  54.     your family from pornography.

  57. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
  58. =========================
  59. If you have AutoRun enabled for insertion of CD's into the drive then the install will start
  60. automatically.  You need only follow the setup wizard to properly install WebChaperone.
  61.  
  62. Here are instructions for manually starting the install program:
  63.  
  64.     * Insert the WebChaperone CD into your CD-ROM Drive.  Open the disk 
  65.           on your Windows desktop.
  66.  
  67.     * Double-click (or right-click and choose "Open" command) the file 
  68.           Install WebChaperone.exe. 
  69.  
  70.     * Follow through the instructions in the Installer.
  71.  
  72.     * If you're updating an earlier version of WebChaperone, 
  73.       your existing settings will be retained.
  74.

  76. Support for External Proxy Servers
  77. =====================================
  78.     Business and education users:
  79.     WebChaperone will co-exist with your proxy server, if you access 
  80.     the Web from behind a firewall.
  81.     
  82.     When you install WebChaperone, it reads your browser's proxy settings.
  83.     WebChaperone overrides these settings, to ensure it sees every page before
  84.     it reaches the browser; however WebChaperone in turn connects to your firewall.
  85.     
  86.     If you need to uninstall WebChaperone, be sure to use the Add/Remove Programs
  87.     Control Panel, or choose the Uninstall WebChaperone command from the 
  88.     WebChaperone entry in the Programs section of the Start menu. This allows
  89.     WebChaperone to reestablish the browser's previous proxy settings.

  92. Having Difficulty Registering Your Copy of WebChaperone? 
  93. ========================================================
  94.     To allow us to plan our technical support staffing needs, and to make sure 
  95.     we can let you know about updates and enhancements to WebChaperone, we require
  96.     you to register your copy with WebCo.
  97.     
  98.     This normally takes a few seconds at most. However, during peak Internet traffic 
  99.     periods, our servers may sometimes be temporarily slow to respond. We continually 
  100.     monitor response times, and upgrade server capacity as necessary. 
  101.     
  102.     If you have trouble connecting or completing your registration, wait a little 
  103.     while , then try again. If you're still having trouble after 24 hours, please 
  104.     email support@webchaperone.com or call 503-417-2900 for assistance.

  107. Using WebChaperone with America Online (AOL)
  108. ============================================
  109.     Many customers use America Online to get Internet access. 
  110.  
  111.     The browser built into current AOL software is a stripped-down or "Lite"
  112.     version of Microsoft Internet Explorer. Its limitations prevent it from 
  113.     working with most third-party browser enhancements, including WebChaperone.
  114.  
  115.     Fortunately, replacing this stripped-down browser with a superior full version is 
  116.     both simple and FREE!
  117.     
  118.     Here's how:
  119.  
  120. 1.    First, choose which full-featured Web browser you'd like to try: 
  121.  
  122. *    The full version of Internet Explorer is available for
  123.     FREE, direct from Microsoft -- and you can easily use it with your
  124.     AOL account. The latest version has all kinds of bells and whistles, and 
  125.     integrates with your Windows desktop.
  126.  
  127. *    The full version of Netscape Navigator, the browser that kicked off the whole 
  128.     Web explosion, is also available for FREE, direct from Netscape -- and you can 
  129.     also easily use it with AOL.
  130.  
  131. 2.    To download a new browser, connect to AOL as usual.
  132.  
  133. 3.    Then, using your stripped-down AOL browser for the last time, go to:

  138.         http://www.netscape.com/download/
  139.         
  140.     Follow the instructions you'll see on the Web pages there to download and 
  141.     install your proper, fully-functional Web browser!

  143. With these steps completed, here's how you'll use your new browser:
  144.  
  145. 1.    Open your AOL software and use your modem as usual to connect to the AOL service. 
  146.     
  147.     (With AOL providing your connection to the Internet, you can now use *any* 
  148.     Internet software you like: e-mail programs, Web browsers, News readers, 
  149.     or whatever you like. Or you can carry on using AOL's built-in Chat, e-mail, and 
  150.     News services. The choice is *yours*!)
  151.  
  152. 2.    The easiest way to open your Web browser is to click the WebChaperone icon in your
  153.     task bar, and use the Go To Web Address command -- WebChaperone will open the page 
  154.     in your new, fully-functional browser automatically!
