- Astrology
- ---------
-
- Astrology is a science linking terrestrial life to extraterrestrial
- settings. Astrology relies on astronomical observation and the law of
- correspondences as described by Emanuel Swedenborg. It is related to
- the hermetic belief seeing the individual as a microcosm of the
- universe (macrocosm). The essence of astrology can be expressed by the
- principle: "As above, so below."
-
- The great cosmic or celestial events happening around and beyond the
- Earth are not causing events to occur on Earth, but are instead great
- signatures of events also happening here on Earth. Both planetary and
- earthly events happen simultaneously and are mutually reflective.
- Neither is the cause of the other; both are the product of the moment,
- one acted out in the heavens above, the other here on the Earth below.
-
- An astrological birth chart describes a starting point for the current
- incarnation. It does not provide a destiny but describes an initial
- state and, if you like, a life plan. You can use your birth chart to
- learn about yourself and the whole at the same time.
-
- Accepting responsibility for your own life is astrology's most
- important lesson. Through astrology you are provided the wisdom and
- all the tools needed for you to change what needs changing and express
- what deserves expressing. Let the study of your life begin.
-
-
- The Four Elements
- -----------------
-
- Modern astrology uses the four elements earth, water, air and fire to
- classify four core properties, manifestations and functions:
-
- o Earth = Instinct - Body (material) - Sensing
- o Water = Intuition (female) - Emotions - Feeling
- o Air = Intellect - Mind - Thinking
- o Fire = Intelligence (male) - Spirit - Loving
-
- The Earth element knows only about the material and will not see or
- understand anything else. Earth dominated people are logical with
- strong and sound, but naturally limited, instincts. They have a hard
- time coping with other peoples' emotions, minds and spirits. Denial of
- everything immaterial is common and fear in one form or another is
- bound to follow. Death is viewed as a termination of life, which is
- entirely devoted to physical sense gratification, duty or ambition.
-
- The Water element knows not only about the material, but also about
- the emotional. If you are looking for real actors you will find them
- here. Water dominated people easily relive emotions as well as
- situations they encounter. The dark sides of people never chock them
- and being thorougly intuitive they never fail to draw strikingly
- correct conclusions. They feel what is right and wrong. Although
- being basically subjective due to a lack of intellectual and spiritual
- awareness, they frequently make up for this by tapping into eternal
- wells of profound insight.
-
- The Air element knows about the material and the emotional, but do
- not care much for it. Air dominated people are brilliant thinkers
- marked by wonderful objectivity. Always well-informed and never closed
- to the opinions of others. More often than not they try to suppress
- their already weak feelings leading to psychological difficulties
- later on. The speed and versatility of their intellectual development
- is only matched by the immaturity of their emotions. On the plus side
- you will never find air dominated people holding grudges and even when
- angry they will use reason.
-
- The Fire element knows about the whole. Fire dominated people are
- warm and capable of seeing the larger picture. For them the material
- body is a cell and the material world a prison. Unfortunately this
- innate detachment from physical reality often attracts them to more
- practical people. Having infinitely trusting natures they are
- bound for many disappointments. Fire dominated people have something
- that could be referred to as male intuition. It reveals itself in
- perfect timing of stock transactions, product launches, etc. While
- being thorougly impractical has its downsides it also comes with
- love and understanding.
-
-
- The Three Modes
- ---------------
-
- Each element can be operating in three different ways. These are
- represented by the so called fix, mutable and cardinal modes:
-
- o Fix = Stubborn / Stable (Organizing/Controlling)
- o Mutable = Adaptive / Volatile (Communicating/Connecting)
- o Cardinal = First / Pushy (Leading/Deciding)
-
- The Fix mode is continuing what the Mutable has developed and the
- Cardinal initiated.
-
-
- The Two Sexes
- -------------
-
- Since the sexes go hand in hand with the elements, that is if you
- know the element you also know the sex, they are rarely considered
- on their own. Basically the sexes point out similarities between
- elements of the same sex.
-
- The female sex is represented by the Water and Earth elements. This
- sex is introvert, meaning it looks more to itself than to others.
- Other people carries little weight to people dominated by this sex.
- The female sex is enhanced by the fix mode and is occasionally
- overridden by the cardinal mode.
-
- The male sex is represented by the Fire and Air elements. This sex is
- extrovert, meaning it looks more to others than to itself. The own
- self carries little weight to people dominated by this sex. The male
- sex is enhanced by the cardinal mode and is occasionally overridden by
- the fix mode.
-
- It is very important to see that the sexes complement each other. The
- male sex would be meaningless without its female counterpart.
-
-
- The Twelve Combinations
- -----------------------
-
- When combining each element with each mode you get twelve different
- combinations. Each combination has a name lended to it from one of
- the stellar constellations providing the backdrop for the ecliptic.
-
- o Fire + Cardinal = Aries (Head)
- o Earth + Fix = Taurus (Throat and neck)
- o Air + Mutable = Gemini (Lungs, shoulders, arms and hands)
- o Water + Cardinal = Cancer (Chest, breasts and alimentary canal)
- o Fire + Fix = Leo (Heart, spine and back)
- o Earth + Mutable = Virgo (Stomach and intestines)
- o Air + Cardinal = Libra (Kidneys)
- o Water + Fix = Scorpio (Sexual organs)
- o Fire + Mutable = Sagittarius (Hips, thighs and liver)
- o Earth + Cardinal = Capricorn (Knees, skin, bones and teeth)
- o Air + Fix = Aquarius (Ankles and circulation)
- o Water + Mutable = Pisces (Feet)
-
- The above list of combinations is often referred to as the zodiac. The
- body parts associated with each combination tells something about the
- place each and everyone has in the whole.
-
-
- The Twelve Archetypes
- ---------------------
-
- When it comes to listing keywords for each combination or archetype in
- the zodiac it is in some cases possible to confuse archetypes and their
- so called rulers (ruling planets).
-
- Before Pluto was discovered Mars was the ruler of both Aries and
- Scorpio. They are both emotionally intense, but Aries is direct and
- outspoken while Scorpio is indirect and quiet.
-
- Venus is currently the ruler of both Taurus and Libra. They both prefer
- peace and quiet over excitement, but Taurus is calm and steady while
- Libra is responsive and labile.
-
- A slightly smaller distinction has to be made between Gemini and Virgo,
- both ruled by Mercury. Gemini and Virgo share the mutable mode, but
- Gemini is open and witty while Virgo is shy and analytical.
-
- The following keywords are listed in order from better to worse. The
- last entry for each archetype only becomes a problem if the first is
- not allowed to manifest itself.
-
- o Taurus = Patient, Reliable, Methodical, Practical, Affectionate,
- Sensual, "Calm", Stubborn, Greedy, Possessive, Domineering, Smug,
- Stolid, Timid, Envious, Cold, Bestial
- o Virgo = Conscientious, Attentive, Accurate, Analytical, Logical,
- Dutiful, Modest, Discriminating, Sceptical, Shy, Anxious, Critical,
- Sarcastic, Cynical, Dull, Harsh, Petty
- o Capricorn = Responsible, Disciplined, Judicious, Gentle, Careful,
- Scientific, Focused, Quiet, Ambitious, Rigid, Suspicious,
- Pessimistic, Grudging, Aloof, Melancholic, Selfish
- o Scorpio = Exciting, Powerful, Profound, Persistent, Penetrating,
- Scrutinizing, Magnetic, Passionate, Secretive, Proud, Conceited,
- Controlling, Obsessive, Jealous, Cruel, Bitter
- o Pisces = Compassionate, Tender, Unassuming, Discerning, Perceptive,
- Poetic, Dreaming, Adaptive, Vague, Evasive, Dishonest, Fatalistic,
- Deceitful, Treacherous
- o Cancer = Caring, Deep, Intuitive, Imaginative, Sensitive,
- Protective, Sympathetic, Cautious, Shrewd, Sparing, Moody, Clinging,
- Touchy, Self-centered
- o Aquarius = Eccentric, Ingenious, Original, Friendly, Humanitarian,
- Inventive, Unpredictable, Erratic, Rebellious, Detached, Cool, Rude,
- Obstinate, Disingenuous, Perverse
- o Gemini = Versatile, Quick-witted, Eloquent, Verbal, Open-minded,
- Tolerant, Youthful, Cunning, Inquisitive, Nervous, Tense,
- Inconsistent, Unreliable, Superficial
- o Libra = Considerate, Diplomatic, Objective, Idealistic, Urbane,
- Fair, Easygoing, Charming, Romantic, "Gullible", Gregarious,
- Provocative, Flirtatious, Self-indulgent
- o Leo = Creative, Generous, Magnanimous, Organizing, Artistic,
- Impressive, Faithful, Vain, Pompous, Edgy, Boastful, Interfering,
- Patronizing, Dogmatic, Intolerant

- Restless, Careless
- o Aries = Inspiring, Warm, Intelligent, Humble, Courageous,
- Adventurous, Enthusiastic, Pioneering, Innovative, Forceful,
- Impulsive, Aggressive, Self-assertive, Impatient
-
- Many keywords belong to more than one archetype, but are only listed
- where they are most typical. The order above indicates similarities as
- detailed in the following paragraphs.
-
- Virgo and Capricorn are almost as practical as Taurus, who is almost
- as persistent as Scorpio, who is almost as petty as Virgo, who is
- almost as vague as Pisces.
-
- Scorpio and Pisces are almost as intuitive as Cancer, who is almost
- as suspicious as Capricorn, who is almost as discerning as Pisces, who
- is almost as modest as Virgo.
-
- Libra and Aquarius are almost as verbal as Gemini, who is almost as
- optimistic as Sagittarius, who is almost as easygoing as Libra, who is
- almost as courageous as Aries.
-
- Sagittarius and Aries are almost as generous as Leo, who is almost as
- jovial as Sagittarius, who is almost as inspiring as Aries, who
- is almost as idealistic as Libra.
-
- * * *
-
- The keywords do not always tell the whole story, so to clarify the
- picture the following list represents what the twelve archetypes
- loves and hates the most in life as well as their most ideal
- occupations.
-
- o Taurus = Security / Change - Musician
- o Virgo = Work / Disorder - Aid
- o Capricorn = Heights / Negligence - Boss
- o Scorpio = Power / Publicity - Mystic
- o Pisces = Solitude / Worldliness - Loner
- o Cancer = Home / Hunger - Queen
- o Aquarius = Humanity / Prejudice - Genius
- o Gemini = Wit / Monotony - Communicator
- o Libra = Balance / Injustice - Peacemaker
- o Leo = Honesty / Intrigues - King
- o Sagittarius = Freedom / Ignorance - Priest
- o Aries = Love / Wait - Leader
-
- Mystic is someone with power surrounded by a smoke screen: Healer,
- detective, secretary... Loner is every lonesome occupation with
- introspective qualities: Poet, actor... Genius is unexpected and
- immediate perfection. A peacemaker diffuses peace of mind.
-
- * * *
-
- Astrology can be especially useful when estimating compatibility
- between individuals. There are many different kinds of relationships.
- The list below starts out with sexual relationships and gradually
- moves towards friendships. These unions are not only gratifying in
- themselves, but also for society as a whole. The list can be used
- to match a whole birth chart.
-
- o Taurus = Libra (Leo, Gemini, Scorpio, Capricorn, Virgo)
- o Virgo = Gemini (Sagittarius, Libra, Pisces, Virgo)
- o Capricorn = Aquarius (Aries, Gemini, Cancer, Taurus, Virgo)
- o Scorpio = Aries (Aquarius, Sagittarius, Taurus, Cancer, Pisces)
- o Pisces = Sagittarius (Gemini, Aries, Virgo, Pisces)
- o Cancer = Leo (Libra, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Scorpio, Pisces)
- o Aquarius = Capricorn (Scorpio, Virgo, Leo, Libra, Gemini)
- o Gemini = Virgo (Pisces, Capricorn, Sagittarius, Gemini)
- o Libra = Taurus (Cancer, Virgo, Aries, Aquarius, Gemini)
- o Leo = Cancer (Taurus, Pisces, Aquarius, Aries, Sagittarius)
- o Sagittarius = Pisces (Virgo, Cancer, Gemini, Sagittarius)
- o Aries = Scorpio (Capricorn, Pisces, Libra, Leo, Sagittarius)
-
- In parentheses you find less and less ideal marriage partners, and
- more and more ideal friends. Sexual relationships between the direct
- opposites may work fine, but they are even more likely to be
- counterproductive and disintegrate. A relationship should not be
- judged on matching signs alone. There is a special astrological
- discipline called synastry for this important sphere of life.
-
-
- The Typical Personality
- -----------------------
-
- Your typical personality is the one you will resemble the most when
- your whole life, with all its aspects, is taken into account.
-
- You arrive at your typical personality by combining the highest
- counting element in your birth chart with the highest counting mode.
- For example, if the highest counting element is Water and the highest
- counting mode is Cardinal your typical personality is Cancer.
-
- How you will express this personality is up to you. When in a good
- mood you will likely express the first keyword for this personality.
- When in a bad mood the last keyword will be evident. It cannot be
- stressed enough that it is always you who have the last say.
-
- Do not take the typical personality too seriously since it is only an
- average. It can, however, be helpful when estimating compatibility.
-
-
- The Planets
- -----------
-
- The word planet means wanderer and while the zodiac remains fixed, the
- planets are moving. The planets and their positions in the zodiac
- serves as the foundation for all astrological interpretation.
-
- o The Sun = Self and vitality
- o The Moon = Emotional needs and immediate reactions
- o Mercury = Communication and routine thinking
- o Venus = Affection and sensuality
- o Mars = Energy and intelligence
- o Jupiter = Expansion and integration
- o Saturn = Restraint and discipline
- o Uranus = Originality and disruptive ideas
- o Neptune = Elusiveness and unity
- o Pluto = Power and obsession
-
- Planet positions are normalized with the Sun in zero degrees Aries at
- vernal equinox. Some astrologers flip signs for births in the southern
- hemisphere, so that Aries becomes Libra and so forth.
-
- * * *
-
- The rulerships listed below are those broadly accepted in modern
- astrology. Some astrologers use different rulerships. Corulers fill in
- the gaps (missing planets) and/or provide sexual balance.
-
- o The Sun = Rules Leo, corules Cancer
- o The Moon = Rules Cancer, corules Leo
- o Mercury = Rules Gemini, corules Virgo
- o Venus = Rules Taurus, corules Libra
- o Mars = Rules Aries, corules Scorpio
- o Jupiter = Rules Sagittarius, corules Pisces
- o Saturn = Rules Capricorn, corules Aquarius
- o Uranus = Rules Aquarius, corules Capricorn
- o Neptune = Rules Pisces, corules Sagittarius
- o Pluto = Rules Scorpio, corules Aries
-
- A planet is said to be exalted when it works well and therefore gives
- additional weight to any sign it is in. The characteristics of the
- planet and those of the sign tend to balance each other.
-
- o The Sun exalts in Taurus (creativity manifested in matter)
- o The Moon exalts in Libra (sympathy and understanding)
- o Mercury exalts in Pisces (compassionate reasoning)
- o Venus exalts in Leo (magnanimous control over desire)
- o Mars exalts in Capricorn (focused energy)
- o Jupiter exalts in Virgo (careful expansion)
- o Saturn exalts in Aries (a very special case)
- o Uranus exalts in Scorpio (powerful ingenuity)
- o Neptune exalts in Gemini (above my head)
- o Pluto exalts in Aquarius (transcendence)
-
- Also note that exaltation exaggerates the mode shared between planet
- and sign, enhancing the potential for organization, stubborness,
- versatility, selfishness or leadership.
-
- * * *
-
- The major planets, sometimes called personal, are listed below
- together with their associated weekdays (based on own experience).
-
- o Sun = Sunday
- o Moon = Monday
- o Mercury = Tuesday
- o Venus = Wednesday
- o Mars = Thursday (Tuesday according to some sources)
- o Jupiter = Friday
- o Saturn = Saturday
-
- The outer planets are sometimes called transpersonal because they
- indicate the collective subconscious for entire generations.
-
-
- The Aspects
- -----------
-
- Although the positions of the planets in relation to Earth say a great
- deal about your character, they do not provide much detail. For more
- personal guidance you need to look at the aspects between the planets.
- The more important aspects are represented by the following angles:
-
- o Opposition = 180 degrees (perspective, objectivity)
- o Quincunx = 150 degrees (expansion, adventure)
- o Trine = 120 degrees (passivity, stability, worldly popularity)
- o Square = 90 degrees (activity, innovation, spiritual humility)
- o Sextile = 60 degrees (energized harmony, humble popularity)
- o Semi-sextile = 30 degrees (drive, ambition, cooperation)
- o Conjunction = 0 degrees (power, subjectivity)
-
- For simplicity it is common to group aspects into dynamic/tense and
- harmonic/stable. The most harmonic aspect being the Trine, followed by
- the Sextile. The dynamic aspects are the Square, the Quincunx and
- the Semi-sextile. Both the Opposition and the Conjunction are in their
- own categories, giving a grand total of four different aspect types.
-
- In order to judge an aspect as being benevolent or malevolent you need
- to look at the sexes associated with the planets involved. If the
- planets are of the same sex they are in more or less perfect harmony
- with each other. Planets of opposite sex are in more or less perfect
- dynamic with each other.
-
- Following the definition of harmonic and dynamic above it is easy to
- tell benevolent aspects from malevolent ones. Harmonic aspects between
- harmonic planets as well as dynamic aspects between dynamic planets
- are benevolent. All other aspects are more or less malevolent.
-
- Harmonic aspects can be very constructive and healthy or just slow
- things down. Plenty of luck and contentment accompanies a benevolent
- Trine, while a benevolent Sextile gives more energy. A malevolent
- harmonic aspect can slow progress or in extreme cases indicate
- relaxation, materialism and coldness. A harmonic aspect between Venus
- and Mars indicates sex appeal and a sensual sexuality favoring
- physical sense gratification over spiritual love and bliss.
-
- Dynamic aspects can be full of energy, drive and talent or indicate
- challenges to be overcome. Generally good and speedy progress
- accompanies a benevolent Square, while a Semi-sextile or Quincunx of
- the same nature may be less obvious at first. A malevolent dynamic
- aspect can impair judgement, produce restlessness or in extreme cases
- indicate destructive temper or tendencies for depression. A dynamic
- aspect between the Moon and Venus indicates an inferiority complex
- about popularity and foolishness with money. A dynamic aspect between
- the Sun and Saturn indicates both ambition and a well-formed purpose.
-
- The Opposition is the only perfectly balanced (objective) aspect. It
- can be extremely benevolent between harmonic planets and at worst
- mildly malevolent otherwise. An Opposition between the Sun and the
- Moon makes for some psychological quirks as well as for success
- through ability to objectify and depersonalize life. An Opposition
- between the Moon and Saturn indicates well-directed emotional energy
- and excellent ability to learn from experience.
-
- A Conjunction is always malevolent (subjective) to some extent, but
- it can at times bring more good than evil (depending on what planets
- are involved). A Conjunction between Venus and Mars indicates wide-
- spread popularity and sexual magnetism, but also hardness and hunger
- for power. Sun and Jupiter in Conjunction indicates wisdom and humor.
- A Conjunction between Mercury and Uranus makes for a sharp and
- inventive mind.
-
- * * *
-
- Following is a list of ideal aspects. Other aspects of the same type
- are also benevolent. Remaining aspects leave room for improvement.
-
- o Moon and Sun in Semi-sextile = Perception
- o Moon and Mercury in Semi-Sextile = Cleverness
- o Moon and Venus in Sextile = Graciousness
- o Moon and Mars in Square = Intelligence
- o Moon and Jupiter in Quincunx = Wisdom
- o Moon and Saturn in Opposition = Discipline
- o Moon and Uranus in Quincunx = Brilliance
- o Moon and Neptune in Trine = Sensitivity
- o Moon and Pluto in Trine = Devotion
-
- o Sun and Venus in Semi-sextile = Generous affection
- o Sun and Mars in Trine = Abundant vitality
- o Sun and Jupiter in Trine = Optimism and tolerance
- o Sun and Saturn in Quincunx = Inner drive
- o Sun and Uranus in Opposition = Heartfelt idealism
- o Sun and Neptune in Quincunx = Sense of unity
- o Sun and Pluto in Square = Inner strength
-
- o Mercury and Venus in Semi-sextile = Charming wit
- o Mercury and Mars in Sextile = Energized mentality
- o Mercury and Jupiter in Opposition = Fine education
- o Mercury and Saturn in Quincunx = Judicial mind
- o Mercury and Uranus in Trine = Original thinking
- o Mercury and Neptune in Square = Intuitive reasoning
- o Mercury and Pluto in Quincunx = Powers of persuasion
-
- o Venus and Mars in Semi-sextile = Ecstatic sexuality
- o Venus and Jupiter in Quincunx = Expansive generosity

- o Venus and Uranus in Square = Abstract passion
- o Venus and Neptune in Sextile = Simplicity
- o Venus and Pluto in Opposition = Appreciation
-
- o Mars and Jupiter in Trine = Unlimited enterprise
- o Mars and Saturn in Square = Dynamic leadership
- o Mars and Uranus in Sextile = Engineering genius
- o Mars and Neptune in Semi-sextile = Spiritual insight
- o Mars and Pluto in Quincunx = Progressive power
-
- o Jupiter and Saturn in Semi-sextile = Humility
- o Jupiter and Uranus in Sextile = Broad social outlook
- o Jupiter and Neptune in Square = Religiosity
- o Jupiter and Pluto in Semi-sextile = Profound wisdom
-
- o Saturn and Uranus in Semi-sextile = Practical ingenuity

- o Saturn and Pluto in Sextile = Strength and perseverance
-
- o Uranus and Neptune in Semi-sextile = Social compassion
- o Uranus and Pluto in Square = Exciting originality
-
- o Neptune and Pluto in Trine = Psychic connection
-
- When Opposition is the ideal aspect above a Sextile will also be
- benevolent. Use your imagination for the opposite situation.
-
-
- The Twelve Houses
- -----------------
-
- Given an exact place and time on Earth you can not only tell Earths
- overall state, but also detail the state of that specific location.
- This is done by dividing the surrounding space into twelve different
- sectors or houses. The exact location and size of each house depends on
- what house system you are using. There are, however, two celestial
- points related to houses that always stay the same.
-
- The Ascendant represents the point of the zodiac rising over the
- eastern horizon. It is most often used as the starting point for the
- first house. The Ascendent modifies physical appearance and vitality as
- indicated by the Sun, as well as the ability to communicate emotional
- needs as described by the Moon. An extrovert ascending sign makes for
- direct and easy communication of self and emotions. The Ascendent is
- ruled by or ruler of Aries (the most direct sign).
-
- Midheaven is the point at which the ecliptic meets the meridian. It is
- often used as the starting point for the tenth house. Midheaven tells
- about likes and dislikes. It indicates choices made with open eyes and
- is strongly associated with career. Midheaven does not usually coincide
- with the astrological zenith, which is used as the starting point of
- the tenth house in the so called Equal House System. Midheaven is ruled
- by or ruler of Capricorn (the most judicious sign).
-
- Each house represents an area of human life. In ascending order the
- houses tell about the following: Personality/Pioneering, Material
- property/Acquisition, Early education/Communication, Home environment/
- Supplementation, Pleasure/Creativity, Work/Industry, Marriage/
- Partnership, Sex/Passion, Higher education/Study, Career/Idealization,
- Social life/Sharing, Troubles/Compassion.
-
-
- Conclusion
- ----------
-
- This text has hopefully served as a decent introduction to astrology.
- Since astrology is only limited by human existence its depth is for
- all human intents and purposes infinite. To begin interpreting your
- own birth chart you can turn to further reading.
-
- Heaven Knows What
- Grant Lewi (1902-1951)
- 11th edition 1998, Llewellyn Publications.
-
- This standard piece shines when it comes to planetary aspects. It also
- gives 144 fairly short but useful Sun+Moon interpretations. Despite
- having quite a few inconsistencies the interpretations are most often
- striking and pleasantly free from vague speculation.
-
- Astrology for the Millions
- Grant Lewi (1902-1951)
- 6th revised edition 1996, Llewellyn Publications.
-
- This rather small book gives planet interpretations by sign. In
- addition it explains the life plan presented by a birth chart. The
- major player here is Saturn, also called the grand clock. This book
- is also worth reading because of some very enlightening planetary
- transit interpretations. The sign interpretations for the major
- planets tend to be quite brief, for the Sun definitely too brief, and
- sometimes not perfectly accurate either. Grant Lewi has an
- interpretation of his own for Mercury, which doesn't enlighten me all
- that much, but I'm no professional astrologer. The interpretation of
- Saturn misses a lot (Parker's Astrology is a mandatory companion). All
- books need a complement but especially this one. If you want a quick
- but still meaningful interpretation of your birth chart his first
- book, Heaven Knows What, is recommended instead.
-
- Sun Signs
- Linda Goodman (1925-1995)
- 1968, Taplinger (reprinted in 1990).
-
- The descriptions of the twelve astrological archetypes found in this
- classic are hard to beat. This book is approaching German standards in
- comprehensiveness and shows a lot more understanding, balance and humor
- than any other book I have read. This book is a definite must for any
- direct understanding of the twelve, so called, Sun signs.
-
- Parkers' Astrology
- Julia and Derek Parker
- 1991, Dorling Kindersley (reprinted in 1997).
-
- This book is much more general than those listed previously. It covers
- almost all there is to know about astrology, including birth chart
- progression and synastry. It is quite good at interpreting planets by
- sign as well as house. Its interpretations of planetary aspects are
- better left unread, but the synastry part of the book is for some
- curious reason much better.
