  32. Quick installation:
  33. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  34. If you have already installed V2.1 just decompress "instdata.lha" into
  35. a  temporary directory (eg. Ram Disk) and replace the file "ImageDesk"
  36. in  your  ImageDesk   directory   with   either   "ImageDesk.000"   or
  37. "ImageDesk.020" from the temporary directory.

  39. Introduction:
  40. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  41. ImageDesk is a program to  catalog  graphics  archives  by  generating
  42. small   representations  of  pictures,  so  called  thumbnails.  Those
  43. thumbnails are internally being expanded into  objects  which  include
  44. all  essential  data of its represented picture. These can be combined
  45. into loadable and savable thumbnail catalogs in which XPK  compression
  46. is  supported  to  reduce  memory  consumption  on storage medias. The
  47. catalogs are directory orientated, this  means  the  pictures  of  all
  48. included  thumbnails  are  in  the  same directory path. the following
  49. picture types are supported and will be recognized automatically:

  51.    * IFF ILBM (color mapped, EHB, HAM, HAM8, DEEP, DCOL )
  52.  
  53.    * GIF (87a, 89a)
  54.  
  55.    * JPEG (+)
  56.  
  57.    * PCX (1 bit upto 32 bit)
  58.  
  59.    * BMP (4,8 and 24 bit, OS/2 and Windows formats, unpacked only)

  61.    * PCD (upto BASE size)
  62.  
  63.    * PNM (P4, P5 und P6)

  67. The corresponding picture of  a  thumbnail  object  can  be  shown  if
  68. requested.  Therefore  two internal viewers, the window and the screen
  69. viewer, exist for each above mentioned format. The latter are able  to
  70. view  Images  on CyberGraphics, Picasso or standard 8 bit screens, but
  71. it is also possible to specify  external  viewers  or  AREXX  programs
  72. which ImageDesk will call on demand.
